Isn't it strange that we can find no info on #1?
To me they are both scary scary dudes and I hope LE has checked them out already and searched their homes inside and out. I would hope that they would have run those bloodhounds through their houses. Why wouldn't they have already done that? I would think since LE obviously knows about these guys that that would have been their first order of business.
After Couey, I'll bet they are searching every nook and cranny.

We also cannot forget the absconders. There are so many of those unaccounted for that could be in the area.

I pray to god this child is okay. I am almost afraid to sleep tonight thinking about where she could be at..
I am sickened that there is a SO living 500 ft away! I will get even more sicker if someone knew it and didn't share it with the people who live nearby..
I swear, our laws should make it to where a SO should have to place a sign on there lawn saying they are a registered offender..
And for those who shouldn't be registered, they should just be required to register, because I do feel that some don't deserve the status.. (such as my parents neighbor, whom was 18 dating a 15 year old, whose parents allowed it for 10 months)

(Bold by me)... While I agree that the SO in the area may be something to look at, I also fear for the "witch hunt" mentality that so may people seem to take. Many of these SO may not be predators at all, and some may be completely innocent! I have seen the justice system fail too many times with regard to these types of crimes. I know I will get myself into trouble for saying this, but I needed to say something.

I watched the interview with both parents on Greta tonight. Greta asked Ronald Cummings about Haleigh's mother and he paused for a moment and then said that custody was given to the better parent and the parent that could provide for the two children.

In an article on CNN's website, it was stated that the parents were divorced.

The guy that lives 500 feet from the home interests me....I could see a bored 17 year old getting mixed up with him and not knowing what she got herself into. Since dad picked daughter up...sounds like maybe they only have 1 car? And I bet SO would be offering to help kwim? And if she was mixed up with him in someway....that would make access eaiser.

I was thinking the same thing..close neighbor, sees Dad leave for work everyday, maybe walks down say's Hey, you know strikes up conversation. Hangs out, watches kids play in yard and keeps gf company on occasion. Maybe has a drink or two, offers to help out anytime etc. etc.
Surly, surly she would have said something about her friend if this is indeed the case. Surly LE is all over this guy.

I saw an interview with Crystal's mother who said that Crystal was not allowed to talk to the kids on the phone when they stayed with the father. She then said hesitantly that the parents did not have a very good relationship.

Thank you, ElizaAvalon,
Not allowed to talk on the phone??? I am not very knowledgeable on custody dictums. How does this work? She had visitation two weeks prior, but no phone conversation? Anyone have any insight for me on this?

Well, something significant must have happened in order for the father to get custody of the children over the mother. Where I grew up in Iowa, it's damn hard to pull that custody away from the mother. In WA, hard but possible. I dunno about Florida, but there's a reason why the father got custody over mother...

I said the very thing a couple threads ago. There are soooo many "unregistered" and unknown, unreported, that we just don't know.

I have been reading this thread all day and just wanted to post my thoughts.

#1 17 yo with a 24 year old is really not as bad as some think. It depends on how mature she is and what has happened to her in her life. I really don't frown upon this.

#2 Not waking up when the girl was taken. Maybe she was woken up when the girl was taken, she probably doesn't realize it.

#3 I think the dad is being truthful. He knows nothing

#4 I need to hear more about the girlfriend. At this point we know nothing. We don't know how mature she is etc. To accuse her of leaving the kids, or having a friend or lover over is unfair. I agree parts of her story sound odd but until we get some background on her it's not fair.

#5 A SO? Very possible. One of these could have been watching her and their habits. I get a bad vibe from the 1st picture of the SO nearby. He was just released so I think he would be the one to really check on.

Just my thoughts. I pray that they find her alive. May God be with her!:(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_North_America#Florida
In reference to #1: According to Florida's "age of consent law" the dad was committing a crime for living with the 17 yr. old.
794.05 Unlawful sexual activity with certain minors.-- (1) A person 24 years of age or older who engages in sexual activity with a person 16 or 17 years of age commits a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.

Has the father's alibi been verified?

Stupid question maybe but maybe not. Could the reason we cannot find any info oh him be that le has pulled it ....I mean maybe they are taking a hard look at him and Dad did threaten to kill whoever has his daughter.......

Could be I guess. But wouldn't we have heard something by now as to a POI?

I must say I was impressed with the way he handled that question.

I don't remember the exact wording, but I believe it was more like Ron wouldn't LET Crystal talk on the phone with the kids.

Let me see if I can get the video somewhere.

Sorry sunflowerchick, I don't mean to be conducting a "witch hunt" but were talking about a 5 year old little girl here and he lives 500 feet from her door steps. Remember John Couey? He had Jessica in his home and she was still alive when LE first went there. Where there is a child missing I say leave no stone unturned.

This guy - I can't find any arrest record for him. He's the one who lives closest to the Cummings - literally a few houses away. His offense is LEWD,LASCIVIOUS CHILD U/16; F.S. 800.04 (PRINCIPAL).

Now this guy: http://offender.fdle.state.fl.us/offender/flyer.do?personId=27045. He really scares me. The thing about him, though, is he is supervised: Serving a court-ordered term of community monitoring under the authority of the Department of Corrections and/or the Florida Parole Commission. His permanent address is 1/2 mile from the Cummings. A 7 minute walk.

He also has a notation (Predator) next to his name. (Gives me the chills!)

His offense: Produce, Direct, Promote Sexual Perform. by Child; F.S. 827.071(3) (PRINCIPAL). I can't even begin to tell you how utterly horrified I am by the description of this.

I too am very concerned about the "preditor" status. I realize that he is under supervision but is it 24 hour? Does he wear an ankle monitor device? I sure hope so.

FWIW, I do see a distinction between a 24 year-old involved w a 17 year-old, and a child predator or child molestor. However this 17 year-old does need to be in school, not shacking w this adult male IMO. I don't think predators from as far away as bio mom's (an hour and 45 mins. away) are likely to be involved. I've posted myself that an intruder may have gained access via front door if kids were left alone for a period during which Haleigh awoke, opened--but failed to relock--front door, and intruder exited by rear door. And if an intruder broke into his house and kidnapped one child I sure as h#ll hope LE wouldn't confiscate dad's Beretta (if it's legal I mean). JMO

I don't mean for it to be a witch hunt either, however, I would rather a few sex offenders who must register for a reason feel as if they are being hunted, and for us to be wrong, than them not getting a second look and us be right..
Sorry, I don't have sympathy for them not whatsoever. :snooty:
