My speculation...it shouldn't take much longer for whomever the girlfriend was rendezvouing with to come forward or be identified by LE.
If the gf's exploits were known to/observed by nearby SO...he would certainly be in a position to act. No sign of forced entry would mean that gf would have had to have left the deadbolt unlocked as well. One would think she would have a key...but, perhaps not...that would line things up for the SO to swoop in. Blanket/sheet falling away while SO carried a sleepy 5-y.o. away
Otherwise, father is adamant that Haleigh was afraid of the dark and would not venture out on her own. Had she awoken in a 'home alone' situation it would seem likely she would be crying enough to wake her younger brother. No mention of his being awake/asleep upon father's arrival?
