Davis' attorney says he has not been on the case as long as prosecutors and still needs to interview about 20 witnesses in what's called depositions. Suspicious scratches, items retrieved from trash
The same day, on July 24, 2023, authorities collected DNA and photographs from Davis.
Authorities reported finding fresh scratches and cuts on Davis' hands, forearms, ankles and shins, which they say he attributed to his cat. Davis told officers he had a Botox procedure done, which they later found he paid for using Schmalbach's credit card.
Police later collected the trash from the communal trash receptacle. Inside, authorities found mail addressed to Schmalbach and a broken iPhone case. They also found remains of shredded credit cards at the condo.
Authorities also traced the use of Schmalbach's credit card in Clewiston days after his disappearance.
Police discovered Davis bought a shovel and a pickaxe from an Ace Hardware store in Clewiston.
An employee told authorities Davis justified the purchase saying he was removing tree roots.
