WOW, you guys are very sharp this morning! lol

Actually Nan, I think your last guess could be right on the money. I thought it was odd yesterday both in the link here and on FOX they stated LE would be looking for the escapee brother today at the funeral. What's up with that, giving the guy a heads up? :banghead: That doesn't even make sense to me, unless he is undercover as you say and trying to bring down the gang. Having this on the news might be a code to him too if they have lost communication with him,

The only thing that pulls me away from thinking this could be it is I know Mexicans, and they very rarely sing.

I recall reading somewhere that Jose and his brother were close. I'm guessing, then, that Jose knew his brother's whereabouts.

I suppose it's possible that Jose Manuel could have been an informant, but certainly the government would know his whereabouts, and they have ways of finding someone rather than use a newspaper story. I think the news story leak was more likely from someone trying to protect Jose Manuel, warning him of LE.

As far as an inheritance, the only speculation has been on this board. There is no story I've heard of that references an inheritance or lottery winnings. There is, however, a reference from Brownsville LE, stating that this has got to be drug related.

Jose Luis might have been mistaken for his brother, or his brother may have been the murderer, but why?

nan-- your last couple paragraphs... wow, good thinking!

sherlock & kawika-- sorry if things i said offended you, just trying to get at the root of the problem(s) here... which are real issues that a lot of people don't want to hear about. but i will try to steer those issues away from here & into the political thread in the future.
Thanks for the heads up, now I will know to skip all of your future posts.

I read the thread and I am wondering if the brother who escaped jail could have actually been the killer?
That was my thought too.

In my thoughts, I thought that Jose Luis may have had contact with Jose Manuel since he fled jail or charges against him and maybe Jose Manuel had decided to lure Jose Luis (either by begging for a ride somewhere or with a lure of a big payoff of sorts...) into something that ended up with Jose Luis and family being executed. It sounds too easy, but in some of the articles it sounds as if Jose Luis and family were rather "to themselves" and seemed to keep a low profile and it seems like the only people Jose Luis would really trust would be someone from his own family. Does this make any sense?

This is just my opinion, I didn't "link" to particular articles because I was just saying how I interpreted what I read.

I really don't understand the police making it known that they were looking for the brother at the funerals, it seems like it would blow any covert operation BUT I wonder if they were hoping it would draw the attention of other people who could be looking for Jose Manuel? That kind of left me stumped! Any new news on this case?

I don't think this article has been posted yet...has some info I hadn't seen anywhere else:

http://www.tcpalm.com/tcp/local_news/article/0,2545,TCP_16736_5084724,00.html

Jose Luis and his mother were co-defendants in a 1997 district court case that charged them, along with another man, of felony possession of cocaine. The charges against his mother were dropped within a few months because of insufficient evidence, according to court records.

There is a news reference to the idea that Jose Manuel could have been involved.

It's difficult to think a brother may have killed his sibling, but unimaginable to think he could have killed his sister-in-law and his nephews, too. If he committed this horrible crime, the best that could happen would be to sentence him to life in prison. His life sentence wouldn't last long. No need for a death penalty here.

Lake Worth man, van sought in probe of turnpike slayings

Friday, October 27, 2006

PORT ST. LUCIE — A Lake Worth man is wanted for questioning in connection with the Oct. 13 murders of a mother, a father and their two toddler boys alongside Florida's Turnpike in Port St. Lucie, authorities announced Thursday.

St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office investigators want to talk with Michael James Naujalis, 24. They're also looking for a 1999 red Dodge conversion van registered to him. The van's license plate number is F438NZ.

PORT ST. LUCIE — St. Lucie County sheriff's investigators are looking for a 1999 Dodge conversion van that could be connected to the quadruple homicide two weeks ago along Florida's Turnpike, Sheriff Ken Mascara said late Thursday.

In addition, authorities said four people were arrested in West Palm Beach on federal charges that are in some way linked to the murder investigation. Their role in the case was unclear late Thursday.
The dark maroon van has a Florida tag of F438NZ and is owned by a man identified as Michael James Naujalis, of Lake Worth.

"This is a vehicle of interest and we need to find the owner," Mascara said. "We feel there's a connection with this van and the murders on the turnpike."

The van has a silver or gray pinstripe along the side with "Regency" written on the windshield. A bulletin sent to law enforcement agencies beginning around 2 p.m. Thursday instructed officers not to touch anything inside or outside of the van.

<snip>

Mascara described Naujalis, 24, as a "person of interest."

A woman who described herself as Naujalis' landlord told WPTV NewsChannel 5 she'd been awakened at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday by law enforcement officers looking for Naujalis.

"He's a nice guy. He's always there when I need him, and he's just never bothered anybody," she told the TV station. "He's never caused me any trouble; I've never had the police on him or nothing. I mean, they lived quietly."

As the TV station taped at the home Thursday night, a pickup truck bearing tags registered to Naujalis approached the home but quickly sped off as neighbors waved it away, according to WPTV. A multi-agency announcement in the case is expected today, WPTV reported.

What the he!! I hope that LE really gave these neighbors a good talking to. Actually maybe they should be arrested for obstruction of justice.

Well didn't you hear? He was really a very nice guy. That's what one of the neighbors said. They were just trying to help out a really nice guy and save him from those mean cops.

It seems everytime someone is arrested there is a village idiot that has to spout off to reporters about how "nice" the perp was. Does it ever occur to these dimwits that maybe the person wasn't so nice and they were FOOLED???????

They just did a segment on the news. LE was interviewed and said that it appears these murders were strictly for theft not a personal vendetta. They are still investigating if it's theft of money, drugs or both.

>Four people -- a woman and three men -- are in custody on federal drug charges unrelated to the deaths, Mascara said, and they and the missing brother of one of the victims "all do know each other.""We do not feel it was a revenge killing," Mascara said at a Friday morning news conference. "We think it was related to either the theft of drugs and money or both."<<

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/27/florida.killings/

The people in custody knew the missing drug dealing brother of the victim. And the people do not feel it was a revenge killing. My first thought was that perhaps the victim fled Texas to start a new life in Florida to escape the world of drug dealing. But it is starting to look more and more like he was involved up to his eyeballs. The police do not believe it was a revenge killing. Therefore if he wasn't killed for revenge they believe it was for the theft of drugs or money. That means the victim took up drug dealing in FL.

If that is true, he significantly contributed to the death of his own children. He knew the risks. He took them and put his family in harms way. Wonder how aware his wife was of his activities?

Well, that's an "IF" yet. We'll see. I'd like to think they fled Texas to live a decent life in FL and "shield" their children from the dangers of living near a family so heavily involved in drug activity. We'll see.
