On June 23rd 1992 two men hitchhiking together while they were driving in a truck when the truck hit a clump of trees south of Titusville, Florida on Interstate 95. The vehicle caught fire and both he and the owner of the vehicle died.

The man gave his name as Butch Owner and said he lived in Paducah, KY. Police aren’t sure if he is originally from Paducah and grew up there or somewhere else in Kentucky or if he was just residing their at the time.

I’ve researched people with the name Butch whether it be first, middle, last or even as a nickname but no results this is just a wild guess but this guy more then likely was a transient who traveled the country it seems like and given his age he had the right to disappear so i wonder if he either has any family at all or had no family left and that why no one has come forward of course this was 1992 and you couldn’t get information out like you can today and he more then likely wasn’t reported missing or could’ve been from another country like Canada or the UK and had been staying in Kentucky only to choose to travel to Florida.

My Dad was called Butch by his family, a nickname. He and his Dad have the same given name, this was sort of like "Junior" I guess.

Given what the namus file says, I think all we have on the John Doe is that he was driving the truck and went by the name Butch.

The owner of the truck (who also died) lived in Paducah. The witness, who had been hitchhiking, was riding in the bed of the truck.
