I think I read that her husband was home recently, within a few weeks, and I guess he must not have noticed anything drastic or unusual?

If this lady was not insane when these murders were committed, she will be, when/if she comes out of her fog/haze and realizes what she's done.

Pre existing medical condition...
Behavior out of character...
Currently in ICU...
Violent behavior that was unprovoked...
Swift personality change...

Brain tumor?

I was wondering that too. Or maybe thyroid storm.

If she was mentally ill before she did this, because of a tumor/other health condition/medication induced/etc, then why the heck was she able to buy a gun on Saturday??? I would like to know what her demenor was like when she walked into that gun shop and purchased a gun. I hope LE gets video from that shop.

JPS is out of the hospital in back in jail now. It appears her medical condition was stabilized quickly.

One other observation- she was found in a bloody robe & slippers. I doubt she was wearing the robe when she was driving her son. I wonder if we will be told the sequence of events that eventually gets pieced together. For example- did she kill her son, shower & put on the robe prior to killing her daughter ? I don't know if that makes any difference, I was just curious.

Wonder if the "TIP" was anything to do with the mother's obvious mental problems?

"The Department of Children and Families said it investigated the family about two months ago after getting a complaint. The tip was determined to be unfounded and the case closed. Spokesman Terry Field said he couldn't elaborate."

http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/crime/police-investigating-devastating-double-homicide-in-new-tampa/1148176

That quote really got to me....How many times does that happen and the poor children loose their lives..

If the case had been opened the children would have been assigned a Guardian Ad Litem...Who would have looked after their best interests..

The whole situation makes me so Heartbroken..

DEAR GOD...PLEASE PROTECT OUR CHILDREN!!!

This woman is severely ill - mentally and physically. God bless her and her family and everybody who cares about them and is blown away by this horrible tragedy.

SHe might merely have been moved to the least costly setting, now that ICU treatment is not needed (i.e., to the jail infirmary).

Her uncontrolled movements, if part of an extrapyrimidal syndrome, may have been stabilized - or perhaps an overdose treated.

This woman may have had longstanding psychiatric disease/neurodegenerative disease but the lack of "yes, I noticed her stranged mouth movements" from people who saw her as recently as last week, make me think it might only very recently become manifest.

Her car accident was in November. Could it be a result or cause of her
brain problems?

I too am curious about the nature (and source) of the abuse tip. Probably I think it was her mother, but who knows. She might have appeared out of it from time to time in public, although no one has so far come forward to say so.

Hate ya? Trust me I thought about it.;)

Does premeditating the murder of your children make you less insane? I'd say it makes you even more mentally ill.

One of the links from the begining of the thread tells about how there's such gorgeous photographs of the perfect family. Glowing they say.

Then it says in August this mother wrote a quote about being kinder as everyone you meet is going through some kind of battle. It's a well used quote that I don't know verbatim.

Me? I'd say as of August or earlier this woman had something troubling going on and nobody could know about it. Perfect people with perfect lives who scuba diva and bear children who are star track runners and husbands who are Colonel's can't just come out and go "Geez, guess what neighbor I lost my mind? Or hey did ya know I have a drinking problem? Or PTA friend I hate my kids so much I wanna murder them but I am not sure why and I got the shakes and a thyroid problem"

This didn't just happen overnight. The car accident may have been a cry for help? The car accident may have exagerrated the problem. The call "TIP" to child services? Maybe her own kids called? Maybe her own mother called?

JMO as I know I had never put out there to the universe for people to be kinder and genlter to half the free world because they may be going through a horrible battle until I faced my own battle. Albeit by nature I am just a nice person and try to treat people kindly, but once you get hit by life and something that is shameful in the eyes of your perfect family you just don't know.

Prayers for everyone in this horrible, horrible double murder. Beautiful children. Just beautiful.

For what its worth, a mother knows. I feel her mother knew she was depressed. Can we speculate why? Was she depressed that she was no longer in the work force? Was she depressed due to a brain injury from the car incident or both? Were she and her husband on the outs? There was a report of domestic violence. I think it is an accumulation of all of the above. I believe she was on medication for her depression, could have been on medication for pain. I believe she wasn't treated properly for either. She could be a woman that was brave but who was taught to never show weakness no matter the circumstances. I believe she could have learned this in the home at a young age, but it was reinforced through her work. Just a troubled soul. If it turns out she has a brain injury or tumor I wont be surprised. No matter what,it was premeditated and just a tragic loss of 2 young lives.

I'm wondering if she had any really close girlfriends who could shed more light on her condition for the last six months. Sounds like she should have somebody she talks to with 400 facebook friends. I just think about my girlfriends and how they would most certainly be in my face demanding to know what the heck is going on if I was acting abnormally. It's really hard to hide depression especially from girlfriends. And again, did they have a church family? No mention of their involvement in the community other than kids' sports. As a type A maybe she couldn't bring herself to share her failings/depression/suicidal thoughts/murderous rage, whatever flew in the face of her ideal of perfectionism. JPS's mother must be feeling God-awful guilty just now... thinking she could have done something to save her grandchildren. Terrible tragedy for all, lifting that family up in my prayers.

It's so very sad that this line of thinking still exists. Of course not sure if this is what happened here, but I do know it exists especially regarding mental health issues.

O/T but not and again just my own experience. After a horrific car accident I was anxiety ridden. I was not depressed, but the thought of getting in a car freaked me out to the point I got physically ill.

Long story short it was the advent of Paxil. I took it. My entire personality changed. If you even might have been thinking of butting in line ahead of me or looked at me crooked I could easily have went bonkers on everyone and anyone. Sometimes I think it's a curse but by nature I would help anyone. A stranger. On Paxil? Pfffffffftttttttttt. Not only wouldn't I help you I'd hinder you.

Thank goodness I recognized it on my onw, but have close family as well that were like "Ummmmmm that medicine ain't right for you".

In a heartbeat I would have went to therapy about that anxiety, but come from stoic people that think asking for help is a weakness. Especially going to the "Crazy Doctor". Again, I am Blessed that I finally did what was best for me for other reasons and went to therapy. Maybe this woman didn't have any support. People afraid to ask for help for her.

(((((filly))))) you got my point, sadly its thru experience, and sadly I think she felt alone. Again so tragic ......

I too think it may be a reaction to antidepressants... I took them once and realized real quick that who I was becoming was worse than being depressed. I'm haunted by this woman's actions. I guess two hundred years ago people went crazy and killed their kids, but today with everything going for them, plenty to eat, a nice neighborhood, good jobs, beautiful, intelligent kids and then wham... complete craziness with deadly consequences. Major disconnect on many levels, drugs? infidelity? depression, undiagnosed brain injury? Many possibilities.. if any one of them had been obvious, I don't think her husband would have been OOC leaving the children at risk.

I would like to know what her demeanor was like when she walked into that gun shop and purchased a gun. I hope LE gets video from that shop.

I would guess she showed no bizarre behavior or the gun shop would not have sold her the gun.

The reason I say this in Florida a couple of years ago my husband's coworker was murdered by his wife. She tried to buy a handgun prior to the murder but the gun shop owner refused to sell it to her because of her demeanor. He felt something just wasn't right.

Sadly she just lied to one of their neighbors instead and borrowed the gun under false pretenses. She coldly murdered him because the next day his divorce would have been final and he would have finally been out from under her controlling abusive clutches.

I am not sure this woman had any mental history or issues. She was returned to jail rather quickly. So it may have been a medical condition and not a mental condition.

I think she murdered her children because she was sick and tired of being their mother and knowing they were closer to wanting their independence.

IMO

Hmm... that's quite possible, I never thought of that. It just seems though that she had so much going for her outside of being a mother, she doesn't strike me as one who would be overwrought by an empty nest. Friends have suggested her family was everything to her so I'm leaning more toward mental illness due to any number of possibilities... a breakdown in the marriage resulting in psychotic break or depression from not meeting her own expectations. I'm remembering that woman Yeager or something like that that drowned her kids a few years ago... post partum depression defense, I think. Very sick and didn't get proper treatment. Very sad.

It is hard to predict who will murder their children and who wont. Some seemed to have an idyllic life......some do not.

I did read somewhere about one of the people that knew her and said she had a Type A Personality so that must mean she is high strung.

I have always believed that military wives mostly believe in strict discipline. They have to feel they are in control of their children since the children's father usually is gone for periods of time. They take on the role of the mother and the father while the father is away. Imo, it makes them tough disciplinarians.

I think this woman did not like that her children were at the age of wanting their independence and they probably DID talk back to her and IMO, she just wasn't going to put up with that.

IMO

http://www.tampabay.com/news/public...hoots-two-teen-children-she-said-were/1148176
...Neighbors said they've seen police cars at the home at 16305 Royal Park Court before, though not often....

http://www.tampabay.com/news/public...ds-expected-to-appear-in-court-monday/1148613
...Schenecker, who marked her 50th birthday two weeks before the shooting...

...The Florida Department of Children and Families looked into the family about two months ago, but determined a tip leading to the review was unfounded. An agency spokesman said Sunday that DCF plans to release a version of its report later this week...

http://www2.tbo.com/content/2011/ja...reconcile-images-of-mom-accuse/news-breaking/
n November, Schenecker was cited for careless driving in a wreck involving injury and $26,500 in property damage, court records show. She pleaded no contest, paid a $151 fine and completed driving school.

The state Department of Children & Families previously investigated a domestic argument involving the family. The agency could not immediately provide details, but a spokesman said the case didn't rise to the level of abuse and was closed in the past few months...

The more I think about this, the more I think that it didn't come out of the blue. I think that the car accident & the DCF tip were likely indications that JPS was losing her grip. She ended up on official radar at least twice recently.

Here's a question or two.

It was mentioned that JS was found in her bloody bathrobe/pajamas. I read that back a few threads. She had driven her son to soccer practice. I do believe that she may have had on her pajamas when she got in the car. If you're that depressed, and out of it the last thing you cared about would be if you were in a bathrobe.

Lord forgive me I even have to write this. Why did she not just shoot her son in the house? Why take him in the car? Unless she actually figured it would have been harder if her DD heard the shots and could fight back or at least escape.

So did she change? Took off the clothes she had on in the car. Put on her bathrobe and then murdered her beautiful DD?
