Yes, that is a trick frequestly used in cross-examination, not helpful in direct, imo.

Also in Walter Reed in 2007, they noted she had a psychotic experience while watching TV -- a hallucination. At USF Psychiatry clinic -- noted she had paranoid ideations (when not on her meds) - she felt her daughter had bipolar symptoms as well (this was in 2007). In 2009, USF med records noted a bizarre desire to get pregnant and give baby up for adoption (she was 49 years old at time). This thinking continued for several months. Another statement (2009) later that year -- she wanted to take a comb from her psychiatrist and use the DNA to get pregnant w/ psychiatrist's child.
Should this witness be rambling on like this? I am not being disrespectful, but is this what the defense wants as a witness? (Refer back to where I said in re: PS that all witnesses are severely rehearsed and schooled on testifying), just curious, the personality type she is showing seems to be counter productive?

My heart is going out to PS right now. I'm thinking that, while he knew his wife was sick, he probably never knew any of these details. Had he been fully informed of the state of JS's mind, he might have made a lot of different decisions.

Dr. S- factors considered in determining sanity and insanity
Past medical records, interviews, clinical testings, testimony from family and friends, her own writings (journals, letters -- letter to daughter describing her illness),
Noted several examples of psychotic thinking during interviews w/ JS
- Feb. 9 (first jail interview) JS crying, funeral had taken place day before, had wanted to attend funeral, psychiatrist asked her how she would get there, and she said she'd buy a plane ticket and go, pschiatrist said no one at the funeral would want to see her, and she didn't understand that, she said she could have colored her hair and sat in the back.
- several times in jail said she wanted to go home and get her computer because she had to have a way to pay her bills
- March 4, she said she'd heard a helicopter during the night, thought SWAT team was coming to take her out of jail (noted in jail records)
- because she'd been sexually abused as a child, she thought her son would be sexually abused.
She said she'd been molested by a neighbor, as well as several other children in the neighborhood. He made dollhouse furniture, and the kids like to look at it, and he would have them sit on his lap, and he would put his hands up their underwear. JS's Mom overheard JS talking to her sister about it, and sprung into action. Man found guilty, but didn't go to jail. JS testified during the trial, and it was quite traumatic for her.

You know why I'm not buying all these "reasons" JS had for killing them? Because after she killed them, she shot them each in their 'mouthy mouth', that isn't 'saving' them from anything, that's punishing them for how they treated and spoke to her.

Sane people don't kill their children -- they may kill other people's children, but they don't kill their own.
She told me many times that she's always wanted to kill herself since she was 12 years old. She wanted children and was happy to have them. She said she was much less depressed when children younger. She loved being a mother. Her husband Parker stated in the record that she was a good mother (as did her mother-in-law).
JS said she woke up Saturday morning, she had a clear thought, less depressed, she had a clear thought that she could kill herself that day. She thought she could kill her children, and herself, and they could go to heaven. That would save her children from being molested, from having mental illness, from being disappointed in life. She didn't want to leave them with the legacy of having a mother that killed herself.
She had 2 prior suicide attempts.
Time period leading up to depression - had been on anti-psychotics for years. In June 2010, been treated at USF Psychiatry Center, JS took herself off of Abilify due to symptoms of Tardive Dyskenesia.
