In some of the records of JS's treatment, noted as Bipolar Disorder w/ Psychotic Features from 2007. Other records just say Bipolar Disorder.

Most serious mental health disorders are "episodic" - come and go. People (esp. younger) may have no symptoms for some time.

In JS's case, beginning in military career, episodic pattern of mental illness.

JS tended to under-report symptoms rather than over-report. Dr. M said this is typical with MI patients who want to avoid certain meds that have unpleasant side effects.

Dr.: From time #JulieSchenecker moved to FL until 2010: She was still sick, it was still episodic, still had trouble managing medications.

When did she gamble? Before, during or after her 7-8 weeks in bed?

Set of medical records going back years sufficient to document a diagnosis of bipolar disorder with psychotic features.

Difference between treating and not-treating psychiatrists. Non-treating psychiatrists only provide evals. Dr. M says he treats and also does evals.

The diagnosis previously made was reconfirmed when JS arrived in Florida. Fewer periods of "good" functioning in the period of time after she arrived in Florida. In the Fall of 2010, JS was in a particularly difficult condition. Depression, mania, insomnia. Drinking more alcohol. Medications not suppressing her symptoms. Pathological gambling. Struggling with sad, unsatisfactory family relations -- husband as well as children.

Treating doctors focused on alcohol use and medication. Lamotrigen (Lamictal) -- a med also used for seizure disorder, found to be helpful for swinging moods -- believed may be connection between seizure disorder and mood disorders. Lamotrigen seemed to be effective, but has a rare but lethal side effect -- a rash where skin falls off as if they've been burned -- can be fatal. She was taking the drug and developed a rash. Up until the Fall, the doctors talked to her about going back on Lamotrigen (even though she'd had a bad reaction in past). To Dr. M, this indicated a level of desperation. She went back on Lamictal in 2010.

Tardive Diskenesia - side effect of anti-psychotics. The drugs that can cause TD are only used when a patient's disease is so severe that the need for treatment overrides the resulting side effect.

JS was hospitalized at Windmoor in Nov 2010 -- following this hospitalization, JS became psychiatrically disabled.

Forensic Psychiatrist: #JulieSchenecker hospitalized in facility primarily substance abuse ~ stay triggered by car ax, alcohol abuse

JS did NOT get inpatient psychiatric care while at Windmoor. AFter that, there was a lapse in her care, due to missed appointments as well as insuffiencient appts made. She became more psychotic toward the end of the year in 2010. Her thought disorder was deteriorating. Her social support system was deteriorating.
