Although the remains have not been positively identified, detectives believe they are the remains of Cameron Bowers, 10, Preston Bowers, 5, Mercalli Jones, 2, and 1-year-old Aiyana Jones.

Cops did not say where the remains of the four children were found and it was not immediately clear how Casei Jones or her children were slain.

According to Marion County Court records an eviction was filed against the parents on August 14th. Per the docket the husband signed for both him and Casei when the process server served the summons. No documents were filed by either and a default judgement entered on 9/9/19 and closed on 9/14/2019.

Filed on the Aug. 14th. Summons returned on Aug 23, which was sent to both of them, on the 20th. Her FB shows last public pics of kids being dated as 8/21.

Eviction proceedings, then neither show or return the summons. That's telling, in hindsight. Happy FB presented, but no one knows what going on behind closed doors, unless you live behind them.

Deputies “smelled a foul odor” coming from Michael Jones’ van, according to a Brantley County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Jones was arrested by Brantley County authorities on charges of driving with a suspended/revoked license, weaving over a roadway and being a fugitive of justice.

Marion County Sgt. Paul Bloom says Casei Jones' mother reported her missing Saturday because she hadn't seen her or her grandchildren for six weeks, the New York Times reports. Bloom says the mother thought she had been communicating with her daughter electronically for weeks—but it may not have really been her.

Police say they haven't uncovered a motive. "We've never been to the house before on any calls and had no dealings with this couple prior to now," Bloom says. "The 'why' is a question everyone wants to know, but we don't know."

A warrant has been issued for his arrest for second-degree homicide, according to the sheriff's office.

Why second degree ?
How about first degree premeditated never let him leave prison except in a pine box ?

Not familiar with the state of Georgia, but perhaps it is due to the need for a grand jury indictment for first-degree murder charges? I'm not sure if we have a Georgia lawyer or a person here who is familiar with that state law.

And he was very clear in the presser that hers was second degree, but the state's attorney was still deciding what the charge would be for the other four.

ETA, Jethro upthread has already verified this needs to go to the Grand Jury for a first-degree charge in Florida. I missed the fact that this was a Florida case.

What a horrible crime, heartbreaking.

Since they knew the mom and kids were missing, was there a reason why LE had not searched the home and the van? Should they have been following him or something? I'm just confused as to why it took them 6 weeks to search his vehicle and home.

They were just notified, and they closed the case within 24 hours per presser.

Can't believe this upright barbarian has not been charged with Murder One.

I agree with Jethro and others, that first degree murder charges in the State of Florida must go to the Grand Jury for the charge. I think they did a second-degree murder charge to hold him on the wife, but for the children they will go to the grand jury, and probably revisit first-degree murder for his wife also?

Yes, upon reading the documents it is the case that the documents were served on August 20th.

For those that want to read any of these: Go to the case as I described in my earlier post and when the record comes back in the search results click on the case number. The full case with docket will then come up and the documents can be retrieved.

From reading the documents both Michael and Casei were served with Michael receiving both on August 20th at 6:00 PM. The returned documents (by the process server) were filed with the court on August 23rd.

So, that puts the timeline as August 20th rather than the 23rd as I surmised previously.

Casei and the kids were already dead by this point and being served the eviction documents was likely what spurred Michael to load the bodies in the vehicle and drive them around for the next few weeks. At least based on what he has allegedly told law enforcement so far.
