RIP Pamela. When I saw this pop up on Facebook, I cried (on the bus, in public...oops). She's been waiting so long to get her name back.

It's so hard to read about what she went through. Such as 'derogatory notations left in high school yearbooks about her'. She must have been such a brave lady to have the courage to transition, especially in those days.

She was also adopted, which also helps to explain why the genealogy work for her took so long. This was one of the Does I most desperately wanted to get her name back - and her true name especially, not the one others had given her but the one she chose.
I saw one myself in a yearbook uploaded to Ancestry. I can only imagine what she dealt with in person.

u/arctolamia on Reddit found some newspaper articles about Pamela not long before her death. Very sad to think she was so young and also makes me wonder why she ended up in Florida 🙁

Did she legally change her name to Pamela? If she didnt, they would've used her deadname in that article

DNA Doe said she had changed it officially so I guess she did.

Sad, she had to resort to sexwork to make a living. That made her even more vulnerable. Cis sexworkers are already at risk but trans are even more subject to abuse and murder by clients or pimps.

She may well have done, but she may well have just been arrested for existing in public while trans. This kind of charge is weaponised against minorities.

I found her adoptive mother’s obituary, and Pam is listed under her dead name. I feel her family knew about her transition but did not accept it. Her mother looks kind of strict; she was an active member of the local church.

The news blurb say the solicitation portion of the charge was dropped.

Now, time for justice!!!

Someone (family member?) put up a cenotaph in the family cemetery for Pamela with her birthdate, but in her age 5 adoption name. On one hand, it's good that her family didn't forget her. OTOH, if they knew about her transition, they intentionally deadnamed her IN STONE which would be awful.

I'm hesitant to link to the Findagrave for it, because it uses her deadname with no mention of her actual name.

This is spectacular! DNA Doe Project did amazingly in identifying her, and Carl Koppelman's reconstruction as always, was magically accurate. I can't believe she was only 25 to...she faced such derogatory treatment during a prejudice time and died without even being named. But now, Pamela can finally rest in peace now that her name has been revealed. Her case has shown respect for the trans community, and I hope this can mark even more identifications for more trans victims in future. <)

As much as I hate the earlier recon (the one that looks like an angry mugshot, I have never seen another recon like it) both the earlier artist and Carl both got Pamela's nose right. That's the one feature that really sticks out to me.

Pamela apparently had a falling out with her adoptive family because she allegedly stole from one of them. She lost contact with them after that and they never reported her missing :(

A family member was interviewed for the Orlando Sentinel. What was it that Pamela stole that makes her adopted family not that upset over her death?

I'm shocked in the absolute best way. It feels so good to be able to say her name. Rest in power, Pamela.

Regardless of what it was, it really is disrespectful and depressing none of the family bothered looking for her, possibly just out of her being transgender. Pamela became estranged from her family, faced prejudice in life and had it end abruptly by the hands of someone we don't know. Keep on powering Pamela, we'll find out who did this to you.
That's the one feature that really sticks out to me.
{Also, something I think sticks out to me about Pamela is her jawline, which kind of looks trapezoidal.}

I had found this same page… the birthdate is May 13 1963… I’ve been sending suggestions to her findagrave under Julie Doe so she can have better respect than the original headstone/page.

Rest in power, Pamela. You deserved better. We will keep mourning the cherished dead, and fighting like hell for the living.

Wow...This one really got me. I am so stunned, and relieved, that she was able to be brought home. Thank God her real name was publicized and not her dead name, and may she finally rest in peace after all this time. Now, to find the monster who did this.

I'm still in awe. I can't believe our dear Julie finally has her name back. I hope Pamela knows that she is loved by so many <3. Congratulations to the DNA Doe Project for their hard work and integrity over the past 5 years, and rest in peace Pamela Leigh Walton <3
