This is a strange one. Someone is missing this gentleman. Such a shame that there is so little information in his case file...
A middle-aged, borderline obese black man is found recently deceased in a wooded lot in the town of Immokalee with no obvious signs of trauma.
It is January in South Florida, and the body is described as being found clothed only in three shirts- 2 short-sleeved, one long sleeved. No pants. No shoes, socks or underwear.
Two of the shirts come from moderately high-end department stores. Maas Brothers, at one time had 39 stores along the Florida Gulf Coast, but had closed operations by 1991. Lord and Taylor still has a store open in Boca Raton and could have had outlets open in Naples back in the 1990’s.
I believe this man was a middle-class businessman or other professional possibly from nearby Naples, or from Boca Raton on the other coast. He cared about his appearance and possibly dressed in a 90’s yuppie style (plaid!).
Immokalee’s Seminole-run casino opened in 1994, and could have been one of the attractions that brought this well-fed and well-dressed middle aged man to this otherwise rural farm town. The allure of a casino could have brought him there from even farther away.
How did he end up deceased and partially dressed in a wooded lot?
My first thought is that he was either openly gay, or on down-low, and hooked up with someone who drove them out to a secluded location. Engaged in the act our John Doe had a cardiac arrest. His hook-up panicked, and pushed the partially dressed man out of the car. He could have been having a straight liaison as well, and a woman could have done the same. Or an out and out mugging gave him a heart attack and perhaps the thief took a liking to his pants as well as his wallet.
I believe that he is identifiable, and that he is missed.
Thoughts?

That green undeveloped area must be lowlands for it not to be completely built up by now. Back in the 90s that would have been more undeveloped I'm sure. It think you're right though, this had to be related to a hook up with someone from the casino. If he was on a business trip, his employer surely would have reached out to LE at the time.

Agreed, PayRoll.
Do you think he was a Florida resident? I think the Maas Bros shirt is a positive indicator. Even if he was an out-of-state visitor and picked up this particular shirt at a second hand shop, I still think he was still a discriminating dresser...not to stereotype, but possibly gay.
Too much to hope that the police even reviewed any security footage from the casino...

If this was a gay encounter at that location, the rest of his clothes would have been nearby. Floridians generally know not to walk barefoot in the woods (red ants, sharp grass blades, snakes). I bet the bottoms of his feet will not show evidence of walking in vegetation. The encounter likely happened elsewhere and he was dumped there by another male. Not many women can dead lift 185lbs.

The time someone last saw him in Miami was July 1996. He could have moved over to the west coast, lived there for months then was a victim of a crime.

Likewise the NamUs #UP1106 has no mention of dentals, fingerprints or DNA.
Still new at this, so I’d like feedback from experienced members.
Is it worth submitting?
Should I contact the Unidentified case or the Missing Case, or both?
Both of these mid 1990’s case files show a paucity of information; does that necessarily mean that the physical data does not exist, or could it just not be documented in these public files?
I’m willing to try if there’s some chance.

I've never submitted anything personally. I'm just not that good of a sleuther! Reaching out to the listed detectives or investigators handling each case would be a good start. Perhaps an email asking for a status and your suspicions?

Thanks for your response, PayRoll.
I think that you are a darn good sleuther regardless of submissions or not.
I am a real nube and have a lot to learn about procedures and protocols.
The contact info. for the detective in charge of Mr. Pierre’s case down at the Miami Dade Police Department is by phone only. I’ve read from other WS’ers that with cold cases that it often takes a good while to get the detective on the phone.
There is both a phone number and an email on Mr. Pierre’s page for the NamUs Regional Program Specialist for his case. I think that I’ll start with an email there to see where they direct me.

Question for WS Members/Mods
Has anyone else had a problem filling out the Potential Match Submission Form for the Doe Network?

I can’t enter information in the grey text boxes asking for
“Specific information regarding the unidentified/missing person”

Not having issues with pasting links or other info into the other fields, but my curser won’t even show up in the grey text box. Any ideas greatly appreciated!

I would think a gray box would not be required or fillable based on other online forms I’ve used. Are those boxes starred as mandatory? Maybe try a different browser?
