NOT GUILTY FL - Collin Griffith, 17, stabs mother to death 1 year after fatally shooting father - Sep. 11, 2024

I wonder if they will break for the night and continue tomorrow? If so, I'm worried...
Judge just said the jury said (but hasn't put in writing) that they want to leave at 4:30.

Not sure what I'm going to read into that.

They plan to come back tomorrow???? Otherwise, wouldn't they know if they'll be rendering a verdict? Oh, maybe that is just it. They're still sorting things out, and if they don't reach a verdict by 4:30, they want to go home and resume tomorrow. That's reasonable.

And doesn't preclude a verdict today still.

OOOH, what did those neighbours testify to? Was it the lady who saw him pull his mom back into the house?
It appears to me that they are going through the verdict form in order. Maybe they've reached agreement on the murder charges and now are onto the kidnapping charge, and out of diligence, want to give another listen to and/or compare the neighbors' testimonies to help with their deliberations.

Conscientious jury IMO.

The Defense hit strong at closing that there was no kidnapping, that the mother was there of her own free will and went inside because she wanted to, not that she was forced (the Defense made no distinction or mention of the TWO times she went in where one could have been voluntary entry and one involuntary). And the Defense also said he didn't force her, he was ushering her... perhaps the jury would like to compare that representation with what the neighbors' impressions. To determine for themselves if the defendant was trying to take an argument indoors for privacy (embarrassment) or for violence (out if the public's eye).

I imagine the jury has put it together since there has been very little mentioned about his relationship with his father.
Agree with your post; and dad no where in the courtroom either. Didnt take the stand. Jurors know. moo

Judge ruling: Jury allowed to hear that defendant CG killed in self-defense before, but cannot know that he killed his father.

Approaching 4:30.... no verdict yet....

Will the jury ask to be excused and come back tomorrow?

I really thought we'd have a verdict by now.

I can see them finding him guilty of murder, in the first or second, but being undecided on kidnapping... Defense made the point in closing that no neighbor was apparently alarmed enough to call the police and wouldn't they have if they saw someone being abducted? But actually, A LOT of the time people don't want to get involved, in domestic situations too.

I don't think he was trying to protect her from neighborhood embarrassment however.

So.... was it a hand on her shoulder like the Defense would have us believe or by her hair? And how will the jury call it?

Gosh, I hope we don't have to wait until tomorrow. And I hope there's concensus. Which includes bars for boy.

-- Defendant is being charged as an adult.

-- No juror will believe that the victim fell on a knife as she was lunging at defendant --- causing a deep stab wound to her neck... not possible, imo

-- As rescue arrived, victim is pronounced dead at the scene.

-- Deputies asked defendant what happened and defendant uncooperative; and asked for an attorney.

-- Inconsistencies between what defendant had stated happened in his 911 call and what was discovered at the scene.

-- Witnesses told detectives both mother and son were verbally arguing outside the residence; and witnessed him grab his mother by the hair and drag her inside the home.

-- The ME Officer's autopsy showed that the victim died of a deep penetrating knife wound to the neck; and determined the stab wound to be inconsistent with an accidental injury.

Florida State Attorney Brian Haas explained his decision to charge Griffith as an adult, saying, “I made the decision to charge this 17-year-old as an adult based upon the egregious facts and circumstances of this case. Charging a minor as an adult is not a decision that I take lightly, but as state attorney, it is my responsibility to do so when warranted.”

Defense attorney: "perhaps you have heard of s*ici*e by cop..... perhaps this was su*c*de by son."

Way to victim-blame. I hope the jury realises how tone-deaf her argument is.

Exactly. And that ridiculous theory makes no sense because the son 'ushered' him mom back into th house, after she was already outside and leaving.

If the murder victim was planning to die at his hands, why would she be leaving?

Courtroom is live.

Jury are excused to deliberate.

Got to say, I love that everyone in the courtroom stands for jurors entrances and exits. Supreme respect for the backbone of our justice system.

I also applaud juries for taking the time TO deliberate, regardless of verdict. Easily this jury could have churned out a verdict last night, just to be done.

I predict they chose to 'sleep on it', will begin with discussions, will spend the morning filling out the verdict form, may hang back for lunch. I'll be shocked if this goes beyond that. I won't be shocked if we hear they've reached a verdict in the next hour.

Agreed. World take note if this dangerous young man is released. No one dare cross him. Sure, only dangerous when he's angry....

Jurors havent deliberated long at all, imo. It's going on seven hours of deliberations, which, imo, is not long. Additionally, even though, the defendant is being charged as an adult, he is still a 17 years old minor. moo
