GUILTY FL - Cynthia Maria Hoover, 60, Milton, Florida, 8 March 2021 *arrest*

How in the world did these 2 even cross paths??? I wondered why her vehicle was on I-10 when she was going to run a errand nearby.

Snip:

The woman told deputies Malisham later said he drove Hoover's car to I-10 near mile marker 25 and abandoned it, according to the report. He then threw her keys in the river.

The report states the woman says she refused to go pick up Malisham after he abandoned the car, so he called another woman to do so -- and that woman took him back to his home. Deputies say the woman who picked him up is elderly and did not remember much about this.

There's a photo of the man here. It's courtesy of the Santa Rosa County Jail.

Malisham has been charged with first-degree felony murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to Aloy. Malisham was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail without bond.

This is horrific (killed with a hatchet, cracking open her skull - acc to WearTv)!

Did he know Cynthia? Why did he do this??

In an earlier link, it said the keys were left behind, but these new reports say he threw the keys in the river, I notice.

This guy has to be mentally ill. Who recruits their neighbor to stand lookout while they bury a body? Seriously?!

From the link:

[...]

... the tipster informed authorities that one of Malisham's neighbors helped him with the burying process and one of his friends helped him get rid of Hoover's car, the report stated.

Alabama authorities passed along the information to the SRSO, including the names of Malisham's neighbor and friend and the address of Malisham's home in the 4500 block of Simpson Street in Milton.

When SRSO detectives interviewed Malisham's neighbor, she admitted to knowing about the murder. She said that sometime in March, Malisham told her that he thought Hoover had tried to steal from him.

[...]

The neighbor told detectives she agreed to help Malisham out of fear. But on the night of the murder, the neighbor "couldn’t handle the sound of Cynthia's body hitting the steps and ran to her house and locked the door," the report stated.

Johnny Malisham suspected of killing missing woman Cynthia Hoover

When SRSO detectives interviewed Malisham's neighbor, she admitted to knowing about the murder. She said that sometime in March, Malisham told her that he thought Hoover had tried to steal from him.

After burying the woman, Malisham drove her car and abandoned it on the side of I-10 and called a friend of his — an 89-year-old woman — to pick him up, according to the report.

When interviewed by detectives, the 89-year-old woman told detectives that she picked up Malisham at a Circle K gas station off I-10 sometime in March but could not remember the exact date.

Neither Malisham's friend nor his neighbor had been charged in the case as of Tuesday. When asked about the possibility of future charges, Aloy told the News Journal that, "The case is still open and we're still investigating."

I was checking the status of Malisham's case and there is a document filed on June 1 that names the murder victim as Cynthia Marie Hoover, so I assume that her identity has been confirmed.

"GINGER BOWDEN MADDEN, STATE ATTORNEY FOR THE FIRST JUDICIAL CIRCUIT OF FLORIDA, PROSECUTING FOR THE FIRST JUDICIAL CIRCUIT OF FLORIDA, CHARGES THAT JOHNNY EDWARDS MALISHAM, on or about March 8, 2021, at and in Santa Rosa County, Florida, did unlawfully and perpetrated by an act imminently dangerous to another, and evincing a depraved mind regardless of human life, although without any premeditated design to effect the death of any particular individual, kill and murder CYNTHIA MARIE HOOVER, a human being, by BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA TO THE HEAD, in violation of Section 782.04(2), Florida Statutes. A 62-year-old man in Florida will spend several decades behind bars for killing a woman by hitting her in the head with a hatchet and burying her body underneath a burn pit in his backyard. Santa Rosa County Circuit Court Judge Clifton Alan Drake ordered Johnny Edwards Malisham to serve a sentence of 25 years in a state correctional facility for the 2021 slaying of Cynthia Hoover, court documents reviewed by Law&Crime show.

Malisham last month pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon convicted in another state. Judge Drake sentenced Malisham to 15 years on the latter charge, to be served concurrent, meaning at the same time, as the murder sentence.
