FL - Dawn Brancheau, Female Trainer Killed at Shamu Stadium

I wasn't picking your post.. I think it's too late for him to be released he's not used to hunting.and I don't think he'll turn into an Elsa from Born free But i do think they need to stop breeding them in captivity and let the captives ones live out their lives.

I don't feel that way about all zoo animals. Meerkats seem to do good at zoos as do snakes (if the zoos don't lose them that is LOL) But our ocean mammals and large fish such as huge sharks just don't do well, it makes me sad to see them used for enjoyment of people. It used to be they were kept for education of the masses about their plight with with the web now and such.. I personally don't feel that is necessary anymore

I love Seaworld. And I still see it as a great educational opportunity. My child has been to the San Antonio one 3 times and we just went to the Orlando one a couple of weeks ago. You can read about something all day on the Internet but it's nothing like seeing a child get to see the animals live.

Not to mention, Seaworld does great things for our world in the form of conservation and educating people. That does take money.
If you ever get a chance to see their Manatee rescue exhibit, it's well worth your time.

I saw PETA picketing on the news this morning. If we should throw anybody in the ocean at this point, I say we gather them up.

Sure is - that's why I posted the link and called him "Shamu." Sorry if there was confusion ~ I was going off of the conversation regarding the whales in captivty! For me, viewing that web-cam re-inforces and brings home the point of how heartbreaking it is for these Beauties swim round and round in the same circle for every day of every year of their life.

But they don't just swim in circles! They have interaction with trainers several times a day. They have interaction with other whales. It's not like they are alone swimming in a circle 24/7.

Anyone who believes these Whales are happy are disillusioned, they are not in their natural habitat by far. They are kept in small areas, and in the wild they are not forced to interact with trainers and perform for dead fish. Everything about Sea World is about greed and I pity the poor creatures that are kept captive there. IMHO

Thanks just wasn't enough! I agree with my entire heart! I can't stand the fact that these beautiful creatures are forced to live in such small tanks/areas and are forced to perform for human entertainment. It's quite sickening to me and very sad.

Blackfish (documentary about orcas in captivity) will air tomorrow night at 9:00 EST on CNN. JVM is also doing a special tomorrow night.

Little known fact...a SeaWorld killer whale on loan to Loro Parque killed trainer Alexis Martinez two months before Dawn was killed. The orcas are living in horrid conditions. Warning-the video in the link below of Keto getting an endoscopy (due to ingesting paint from his concrete box) is heartbreaking.

IMO

Thanks to the few on here that believe that keeping an animal in captivity is immoral and unethical. Please watch Blackfish on CNN. Tilly should be allowed to live in an ocean barricade for the remaining years. Lives are not ours for the taking. Thanks Jon, Gypsy, Portabella and a few others for being compassionate. SMH...

BTW, the other whales, when in tiny sleeping quarters, attacked Tilikum all night. I have witnessed the open cuts on his body and it is sickening.

Ray, do you have a theory as to why Tilikum was attached by the other whales?

Tilikum is basically a serial killer. He had killed or have been involved in the killings of 3 people.
I guess it's possible he has gone psychotic due to being in captivity. But my guess is he simply hates people (because they are keeping him in captivity) and he isn't insane.

I don't blame him!

They are also NOT TO BE SEPARATED FROM THEIR MOTHER, at 5 years of age. Those mother whales screaming for their babys, broke my heart! :(

I watched it last night with my kid. We were both crying. :(

I still haven't seen Blackfish, but I am very much against keeping the orca's and their fellow inhabitants of the ocean's in parks such as Sea World. It disgusts me, just seeing the overturned top fin breaks by heart.

A child crying crying also breaks my heart, but I'm grateful that you are educating your child... That they are aware.
