This is what nightmares are made of.

Horrendous what some evil person did.

I hope this lady will be identified within no time.

But my word to be the family of this lady when they are eventually contacted to be told about their loved one, will be devastating for them.

Police gave an update on Monday July 24. Here is a video of it from WFLA News....

The floral top brand is 'Betzabe', believed to be a Brazilian brand.

Based on the condition of the victim's bothy LE believes that the suitcases were put in the water sometime between Monday July 17 and the early hours of Thursday July 20. (In the Q&A portion LE said they don't know how long before that she was killed. Her body was in the early stages of decomp.)

LE is asking the public to review security camera footage for any suspicious vehicles or people, and particularly anyone carrying or moving suitcases. The area of interest is between the Linton Boulevard bridge and the north end Delray Beach City limits along the Intracoastal Waterway.

From the presser Q&A:

Q: how was the woman killed? A: That's sensitive information that I won't answer. [so it seems that they know how she was killed. ]

Q: Were all of her body parts found in the 3 suitcases? A: We won't provide specifics on which parts we have and which parts were in which suitcases. [implies to me that not all body parts were found.]

Q: are you considering any warnings to the public? A: Based on what we know so far we believe it is an isolated event and that's the gist of what I can provide at the moment.

Q: is there anything that indicates whether human trafficking, drugs or domestic violence? A: No.

Q: Due to the current is it possible that the victim floated there from a different county? A: We don't think so but we can't discount that.

Q: Which way would the current have been flowing? A: based on info from the CoastGuard, it could have been going either way during that period.

ETA: LE mentioned that they believe she is between 35-55 years old and around 5'4", either Caucasian or Latino.

I was thinking the same thing. Can't tell if her eyebrows are “tattooed” or this could be an old pic.
Fortunately, the woman from North Broward has been found safe.

Not much on the "Betzabe" brand. It's a tailor-made clothing micro business in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, and belongs to a woman named Gregória Betzabe Gareca.
Whoever "brought" the top to Florida was from São Paulo. If not our Jane Doe herself, maybe someone close to her?!

Hopefully, the company would have records of the buyers then? If it's a tailor-made clothing, I doubt it's a huge company.

"The brand for the floral top is 'Betzabe' which from what we can tell is a Brazilian company," the Delray Beach Police Department said in the statement on Wednesday night. "It's important for the public to know that these reconstructed images are not an exact likeness of the victim or her clothing and are simply the interpretation of the artist."

Detectives discovered a suitcase in the water with human remains inside. Soon after, two other suitcases were found with remains at nearby locations along the waterway -- one on Southeast 7th Avenue and the other on Casuarina Road, police said.

Detectives believe the luggage with the remains was placed into the Intracoastal Waterway sometime between July 17 and July 20. The area of interest is about a mile long and police have asked members of the public with personally-owned surveillance cameras along the waterway to review footage during the specified timeframe, looking for any unusual people or vehicles as well as anyone with luggage.

That makes me so sad, that red curling ribbon.

These weren't suitcases that were bought for the purpose of disposing of her.

That ribbon means those cases went on a plane, on holiday, or on a visit to family.

I've travelled on a plane only three trips in my life, but all our cases had colourful yarn tied on the handles to identify them easily on the luggage carousel.

This crime reads as domestic, to me. I just hope that someone recognises her, or the cases. Nobody deserves this.

I had the same immediate reaction when I saw the red ribbon on both suitcases. :(

Back at their press conference on Monday LE weren't willing to describe the suitcases. Now they've released images of 2 of the 3 suitcases. I presume they are holding back the 3rd either to prevent false confessions, or, because it isn't as unique??

Or, to be blunt, it could have been much more discoloured. If it's a light coloured fabric covered in blood staining, they might choose to not at this time.

It also could have been identical in type and colour to one of the ones shown.

Photos released of suitcases and reconstructed image of victim in Intracoastal Waterway murderPhotos released of suitcases and reconstructed image of victim in Intracoastal Waterway murder

Snip
Police say a construction worker reported seeing human remains hanging outside a suitcase in the waterway.
Yeeks! Memo to any lunatics or maniacs who follow Websleuths: If you dispose of a body in this manner, don’t leave any arms or legs sticking out.
In all seriousness, what does this say? A hasty body disposal? Didn’t have a big enough suitcase?
If the perp had a boat, they’d probably just go a little further to the ocean and dispose of things there, where there would be a lot less likelihood of being discovered doing it and less likelihood that the body would be found. I think that means they probably tossed the suitcases in from the canal bank or a bridge. And anything someone does is caught on security or doorbell cameras these days.
I bet the police solve this one.

The first thing that popped into my mind was, the remains swelled when they absorbed water and broke the zipper. But yeah, disgusting visual and the poor guy who noticed will never get that image out of his mind.

RIP my dinner… ugh

Just a note, South Fla has a high number of Brazilian travelers and residents. Portuguese is the rising in the list of most popular languages after Spanish and Haitian.

Bolded by me - I'm a bit lost regarding that statement. If the blouse is still intact, and they seem to know the brand, the artist could have painted the likeness exactly.

Agreed. I think it's personal because who else would have access to suitcases with that ribbon, beyond friends or family.

When I had to travel 2 years ago, I tied the same fabric to my suitcase, backpack, and my cane.

link to her thread

the UID here is described as being in the early stages of decomp, while tonya has been missing since late may. its not impossible but that makes it unlikely IMO

Another thought about her "Betzabe" top - a lot of women buy clothing in thrift stores, so while this particular top may have been made custom by a very small business, that perhaps was expensive (guessing here based on "tailor-made clothing micro business" as noted above), it's also possible that someone else purchased it initially from the maker, and that it was donated to a thrift shop at some point, and then later purchased by the current wearer.
