Police gave an update on Monday July 24. Here is a video of it from WFLA News....

The floral top brand is 'Betzabe', believed to be a Brazilian brand.

Based on the condition of the victim's bothy LE believes that the suitcases were put in the water sometime between Monday July 17 and the early hours of Thursday July 20. (In the Q&A portion LE said they don't know how long before that she was killed. Her body was in the early stages of decomp.)

LE is asking the public to review security camera footage for any suspicious vehicles or people, and particularly anyone carrying or moving suitcases. The area of interest is between the Linton Boulevard bridge and the north end Delray Beach City limits along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Q: how was the woman killed? A: That's sensitive information that I won't answer. [so it seems that they know how she was killed. ]

Q: Were all of her body parts found in the 3 suitcases? A: We won't provide specifics on which parts we have and which parts were in which suitcases. [implies to me that not all body parts were found.]

Q: are you considering any warnings to the public? A: Based on what we know so far we believe it is an isolated event and that's the gist of what I can provide at the moment.

Q: is there anything that indicates whether human trafficking, drugs or domestic violence? A: No.

Q: Due to the current is it possible that the victim floated there from a different county? A: We don't think so but we can't discount that.

Q: Which way would the current have been flowing? A: based on info from the CoastGuard, it could have been going either way during that period.

ETA: LE mentioned that they believe she is between 35-55 years old and around 5'4", either Caucasian or Latino.

Whoever "brought" the top to Florida was from São Paulo. If not our Jane Doe herself, maybe someone close to her?!

These weren't suitcases that were bought for the purpose of disposing of her.

That ribbon means those cases went on a plane, on holiday, or on a visit to family.

I've travelled on a plane only three trips in my life, but all our cases had colourful yarn tied on the handles to identify them easily on the luggage carousel.

This crime reads as domestic, to me. I just hope that someone recognises her, or the cases. Nobody deserves this.

Or, to be blunt, it could have been much more discoloured. If it's a light coloured fabric covered in blood staining, they might choose to not at this time.

It also could have been identical in type and colour to one of the ones shown.

In all seriousness, what does this say? A hasty body disposal? Didn’t have a big enough suitcase?
If the perp had a boat, they’d probably just go a little further to the ocean and dispose of things there, where there would be a lot less likelihood of being discovered doing it and less likelihood that the body would be found. I think that means they probably tossed the suitcases in from the canal bank or a bridge. And anything someone does is caught on security or doorbell cameras these days.
I bet the police solve this one.

The first thing that popped into my mind was, the remains swelled when they absorbed water and broke the zipper. But yeah, disgusting visual and the poor guy who noticed will never get that image out of his mind.

Agreed. I think it's personal because who else would have access to suitcases with that ribbon, beyond friends or family.

When I had to travel 2 years ago, I tied the same fabric to my suitcase, backpack, and my cane.

the UID here is described as being in the early stages of decomp, while tonya has been missing since late may. its not impossible but that makes it unlikely IMO

Another thought about her "Betzabe" top - a lot of women buy clothing in thrift stores, so while this particular top may have been made custom by a very small business, that perhaps was expensive (guessing here based on "tailor-made clothing micro business" as noted above), it's also possible that someone else purchased it initially from the maker, and that it was donated to a thrift shop at some point, and then later purchased by the current wearer.
