If you are an older couple hoping to adopt, you may have noticed that many adoption agencies have age requirements for families who work with them. What if you are above the upper age limits? Does that mean you are too old to adopt a child?

Very few states have laws that state a maximum age for adoptive parents. When it comes to finding adoptive parents for a child, the thing that matters most is the ability to provide a loving, nurturing, and safe home. Read on to learn about age requirements at adoption agencies and find out your other options

So if you’ve ever wondered if there’s such a thing as being too old to adopt, you can set that worry aside – by finding the path that works for your family, you can make your adoption dream a reality.

There is a point, though, where it is really about the best interest of the child, and is it fair to a baby or small child to have to lose their parents at a very young age. I mean there are no guarantees in life, a parent who adopts a baby at 25 could be killed two years later in an accident, and a parent who adopts a baby at 45 could live to be 100. So there are exceptions and no guarantees in life.

Also what has to be weighed in is the child's other options. A safe, loving home is absolutely the first and main consideration- a safe and loving home is obviously the better alternative to not being adopted.

But, typically this means adopting older children. A newborn baby has a thousand options and people lined up waiting, so a Birthmother has lots of options and typically chooses the young traditional age couple.

Older children who need loving homes are not as likely to be adopted, so for them they either have the bad alternative of not being adopted at all, or the good alternative of being adopted, so they encourage older couples to provide them with that better alternative of being adopted since the other alternative is that they don't get a loving home at all.

That's typically how it goes, but it is also possible they could be chosen to get a baby.
I'm glad the article you posted pointed out that adopting older children was a good option- too many people ignore older children so any article that brings them out is good.

Disgusting! This is totally devolved. I hope this little girl gets a chance at an amazing life in some other form.

And katydid my guess is the reporting is wrong as it was about the perp being her grandmother (the other one is probably the grandmother and Dericka's parents are out of the picture due to drugs or jail JMO)

The child was probably adopted with in the family. These people might be great aunts/uncle or older second or third cousins.
