JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville police said the father of a 16-month-old child is to blame for the baby's death last week.

Police arrested Donte Dawson Sr. after his child unexpectedly died at Baptist Hospital last Tuesday.

"Police said the baby was only in Dawson's care for about 45 minutes to an hour." :furious: I wonder if this was the only time he watched the baby. I pray that justice be swift for this animal and he has to go to prison for a very long time. I also hope that the stories are true about how prisoners treat child murderers.

Dawson Sr. spoke with police Friday, initially providing "multiple false accounts" of the events of Tuesday, according to JSO. He eventually admitted he caused the injuries that killed the boy, and was arrested and charged with second degree murder.

Dawson Sr. had recently been released from prison, where he had served a sentence for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Prior to that, he was convicted on drug charges.
