YAY! A Happy Ending!!!
FINALLY!!!!

This VERY well could indicate she ran into someone with a recent loss of some sort if the was her OB/GYN follow up.

I think you're right, and if so I hope they look very closely at the circumstances surrounding that loss.

Yes, I agree. I am certain they will look into all avenues.

I don't agree with anyone kidnapping a baby under any circumstance. I have seen friends go through loss of a pregnancy, some repeats and it is such a heartbreaking and emotional journey. I can see where people can become delusional and desperate sometime due to their hormones not being balanced - and the loss in general. There ARE so many people out there who would love a child or children that can not have them. As most of us members here, we see WAY TOO OFTEN parents that don't love or take care of their children but they have no problem having them. Very frustrating to witness. There is still no excuse for kidnapping anyone's baby. And to boot these people were Haitian immigrants not knowing any better. I get this, if I were in a foreign country where I had no clue what someone was talking about, I can't say i would hand my baby over, I might fight but I would be clueless!! I am interested in hearing what the JSO department has to say!!! Good job to them and their fellow agencies!

I am so happy baby Melvin is home safe and sound!!!

Reading back after hearing the great news I realized I may have offended some with the clothes comment. I'm sorrry.

It was just an observation and I stated in my post that I did not think that made them bad parents it just struck me as odd. It didn't mean anything in the abduction case.

Kim, I find nothing insulting with your opinion. I do think it could considered odd to most streamlined American moms to put a infant baby boy in flowers. Personally, I put my boys in pink ralph lauren shorts and an occasional yellow or plaid pair of slacks - think easter - Even has a baby I might have received a gift from someone that might be considered girly, and I like another poster just kept it instead of returning. I did not consider it odd because I have known many people from foreign countries and have seen boy babies wear these sorts of colors. It might just be something not important in their culture or sometimes people will take whatever clothes they can get to fit their baby. - However, had I not I might too say WTH --

There is nothing wrong with having an opinion or finding something odd. We all bring something different to the table and see things in a different light- for all you know it could have been a fake description that was hinky and we would all be thanking you. I am tired of being nitpicked at for having an opinion as well -

great news!

p.s. just because someone asks a question about what you said...doesn't mean they are nit-picking. It's called a discussion forum.

YIPPEE!!! I love it when my jaded self is proven WRONG!!

:woohoo::woohoo:

This is great. I just saw the news on HLN. I was hoping this one would have a good ending.
Kudos on the quick testing and the simultaneous raids. I am so glad he's okay.

One fingerprint leads to baby Melvin Duclos’ safe return
'Just a fantastic job,’ the sheriff says; the relieved father calls it 'a miracle’.

Baby Melvin Duclos came home Wednesday, thanks to one fingerprint and a bunch of Jacksonville cops and crime analysts racing against time to save the 3-week-old boy.

A woman posing as a Florida Department of Children and Families worker snatched the baby from his parents’ Westside home late Tuesday afternoon. The woman flashed a badge and handed the baby’s parents, who are Haitian immigrants, documents that convinced them they were in trouble and needed to turn the boy over, police said.

Also key: Rutherford’s new initiative for police to immediately respond to all reports of missing children in light of several recent missing-persons cases.

Armed with White’s name, crime analysts tracked her to several addresses, including her mother’s townhouse in the 5500 block of North Cabot Drive. White and her mother, who was apparently unaware of the kidnapping 2½ miles away, were inside sleeping when homicide detectives, FBI agents and U.S. deputy marshals knocked. Rutherford said the baby was being cared for, but didn’t elaborate.

After leaving Shands, the Ducloses stopped on the way home to buy milk for their son. When they arrived home about 4:45 p.m., the woman pulled in behind them and identified herself as being from the Depatment of Children and Families.

“She said, 'You know I’ve been following you for two days,’ ” the father said.

The woman said police were outside and that she had to take the baby. Duclos, who works for the post office, said the woman had a white badge and gave him papers telling them how to take classes that would allow them to get their son back.

“They looked good,” he said of the paperwork.

Duclos’ next-door neighbor Edward Jones said he’s not surprised they believed the ruse.

“They are so trusting,” Jones said. “They believe in America. They believe in what people say.”

Doctor: Duclos Baby Kidnapping Likely not Due to Mental Illness
Erin Hawley Ann Butler Created: 3/4/2010 6:57:42 PM Updated: 3/4/2010 8:19:58 PM

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- She told family and friends she was pregnant. They even had a baby shower for her.

But Jasmine White was not pregnant and police said she admitted to kidnapping baby Melvin Duclos from his parents while posing as a child welfare worker.

The situation is extremely rare. In fact, there have only been 21 cases like this one in Florida since 1983, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, with 263 cases nationally.

"Forty percent were from homes and 29 percent had violence toward the mother, so it's a good thing this family believed her story and didn't make her (get) more desperate," says Dr. Lynn Wadelton.

Wadelton is a clinical psychologist at First Coast Therapy Group who said although the cases are very rare, this one fits the profile.

White's relatives said they weren't surprised when they saw the baby because White had told them she was pregnant.

White had symptoms associated with pregnancy; a growing stomach, nausea, fatigue, said Theresa Thomas, her aunt. These signs can sometimes be associated with a hysterical pregnancy, or pseudocyesis.

But Wadelton said while these cases generally do involve a mental component, it's not a disorder.

"These are people who have gone to great lengths to conceal what they're up to and who have done a lot of planning," she said. "So not typically people who are psychotic."

Thomas also said White was getting over previous miscarriages.

A Jacksonville woman could face up to 40 years in prison after she pleaded guilty Monday to posing as a child welfare worker to kidnap an infant on the Westside in March.

Jasmine Marie White, 19, wiped her face with tissues as she answered a routine round of questions about her guilty plea in the Duval County Courthouse. She then was sent back to the county jail to await a December sentencing date before Circuit Judge Mark Mahon.
