GUILTY FL - Dontrell Melvin, 5 mos, Hallandale Beach, July 2011

I'm thinking Mom talked and confessed to where he is, assuming she will get ' off' on the charges by claiming battered or something.

Call me cold but it is gonna be really hard for that <modsnip> creature to make a case for being battered when she took great pride in posting photos online that showed nearly every inch of skin but never a bruise.

She should have listened to her mama and put some clothes on.

Color me Jaded but ...

This is Florida.
Tattoos and partying.
FB My Space posts talking of 'good times' post death.
Dressed like a floozy.
Skeletal remains of her found.
No cause of death.
Not sure who was caring for the child at the time.
Don't know who did what.

Will we see another acquittal?

You skipped the delayed reporting.

I doubt we will see another acquittal. Luckily, Casey 2.0 doesn't have the funding the original had and this baby was a biracial male instead of a beautiful little white girl. The national media won't give a damn.

The last time anyone saw Dontrell was July 2011 — when his father walked out of his Hallandale Beach home with Dontrell and came back without him.

Dontrell’s mom asked what happened to their son. Melvin told her that he gave the baby to his parents in Pompano Beach so the boy could have a better life. The couple were having financial troubles.

Life went on without Dontrell.

The couple went on to have another child. The mother, who police did not identify Thursday, has a third child with a different father.

Members of one neighborhood family said they would see Melvin now and again, and would ask him: How’s Dontrell doing?

Melvin’s response: “Oh, he’s alright.”

Months passed. The mother apparently accepted what Melvin told her — the boy was with his grandparents — and apparently didn’t delve too deeply into the situation..

“We can’t get over that fact either,” Maj. Thomas Honan said.

:what: :censored: omg. To all of it.

I do not know a single mother that would be cool with that. My husband gets the third degree if he takes the kids out and walks in the door without them at his heels. He knows better than letting them go home with friends or stay behind somewhere without calling me first.

ETA: Does that little <mod snip> not realize that even trying to use that story goes a long way in proving what a horrible mother she is?

Just crazy...I don't know what else to say. My head is spinning...how cold do you have to be!

Totally agree with your ETA btw. *facepalm*

I'm not trying to be argumentative and I have not seen the FB pages....

I don't think we can say no one bought him any presents for his birthday or Christmas. It's very possible presents were purchased and given to his parents because extended family did not see him. In fact, I'd bet that was the case.

I'm not sure what you mean might be fraud. It would only be fraud if she lied to obtain benefits, and we have no evidence she did. Family's with two parents living in the home also qualify for government assistance depending on their family size and income.

No argument from me. You may be completely right. I was just pondering the possibilities. Based upon the fact that the child wasn't seen for well over a year with no one really seeing a red flag, it seemed entirely possible that no one bought him presents because no one was invited to his 1st birthday party or was even aware of his birthday. As for Christmas, I wonder where the parents spent it and how they explained Dontrell's absence.

Perhaps someone did buy presents for the baby and the parents accepted them and gave them to the other child, re-gifted them, returned them for the money or just threw them out. It will be interesting to find out more about that.

As for gov't benefits. It's possible that they never received them although they would almost certainly qualify. Again it was just something i was wondering about. I was interested because the mom may well dodge charges in the death and disappearance of Dontrell but if she got benefits for him then she could be charged with fraud.

I would think if the dad was part of receiving benefits then he may have been required to look for work or seek job training etc. My state is that way. Further, they will go after a dad for child support if the child gets benefits.

Basically I am just outraged and want them charged with everything possible.

So many failed this little baby, he was 6 months old. I just can't imagine any of these people that were supposed to be in his dear sweet young life giving another thought 6 months from now. Any of those who should have questioned his whereabouts will quickly forget so they don't have to be reminded of the shame I hope they feel for the rest of their lives. So many dropped the ball including the State of FL. and I for one plan to send some emails ( not that it will do any good) but it can't hurt.

Honestly, this is one tragic case I will never forget and I hope many will have heavy hearts in his family for the rest of their lives.

Dontrell, I'm sure there is a beautiful pony for you and many friends for all eternity, you were taken too soon sweet baby.

I agree we are all outraged. I too want them charged with everything possible.

I think we can say without a doubt, they both knew Dontrell was missing for 18 mo's. They both knew what had happened and the both lied to ALL of their family and friends about it.

Oh, I see what you mean about possible fraud. That she was collecting benefits or adding Dontrell when she knew he wasn't alive. That is very possible.

I'm really hoping this is a case where they are BOTH charged, like Ethan Stacy's dna contributor and her boyfriend.

Dontrell was an especially beautiful baby. I'm terribly saddened to know he was not cherished by his parents like babies should be.

:please:LE can put the pieces together on this one.

One of the articles said they were pointing fingers at each other but BOTH gave an area to look for the missing child IF in fact the other parent hurt him.

As far as I'm concerned, if it's true that both pointed to the same general area to look for remains- then they both knew. They both lied. They are both guilty. Who of us here would find out that our spouse hurt our child and wouldn't call police as soon as you safely could? Instead they went on to have another child... obviously still cool with each other.

I don't know who specifically caused the death, but I'm comfortable with steep sentences for both regardless.

It's so sad to read another story where a precious child is discarded like a piece of trash.

It's impossible for me to understand the mentality of a mother who could do something like this, or who would cover up if her husband did it.

Poor little Dontrell, I wonder what horrors he suffered in his short life.

I hope the parents find no mercy when they go to trial, because I don't believe they showed any mercy to their child. JMO

If there were benefits they could claim then they would have been claiming them.

So basically these benefits claimed for the son they murdered paid for all those tattoo's, nails etc :furious:

This is probably the most sickening case I've looked at. And yes there are children every day suffering unimaginable horrors and I get that. But there is something so unconcerned so callous , so non-human about just continuing on with your life as if the child was never born....and as if he never died. We are creating a society of humans who are not human. The instinct to protect and love your child exists in every species on earth so how is it that humans are moving away from that instinct? Last night I watched a predator show on nat geo about the cheetah. Mom cheetah put her life in danger all day every day distracting lions to keep her young safe . She hunted until she was on the verge of collapse to bring food for them to keep them alive. That is what a mom is supposed to do. What the heck is going on here?

Baby Dontrell, there are dozens of people on this one tiny little website who never touched your face but care more about you than the parents who created you. You will be missed and tears will be shed for you little man. :(

Cheetahs aren't the only sacrificing parents. I lost a parakeet because the pair I had were too much in love...or lust. They had a brood of 3, and before they were completely eating on their own, started working on another. They ended up with 8 babies ranging from newborn to just over 2 months. The father ended up starving to death while trying to keep mom and all the babies healthy. He seemed to be always eating, feeding mom or a baby or sleeping, but he wasn't keeping enough food in his system to keep him alive. He was actually in the process of feeding the mother when he died, but I never lost a baby.

One thing I fear in a case like this is too much time passed to know why Dontrell died. Will they pull the old accident or illness trick? He just got sick with the flu and quit breathing? Or he fell out of the tree and I thought he was ok,,,,,,, but we were scared to call the police because we had a traffic ticket or some such BS.
Also someone said they may have been getting benefits for him and if so, that is a federal crime I would hope but what kind of SICK ********************* would eat food they got on their passed child's name. This is just the worst .

TY Confusion ...... yes the animal kingdom has much to teach us about the preciousness of life.

Apparently in this case their desire/instinct to cover their arse and save themselves overrode their desire to protect Dontrell in the strongest way possible.

When I became pregnant with my son, I had to make a choice between him and his father. I chose my son. I could not imagine making the choices Calvin and Brittney made in this case. :furious:
