I'm thinking Mom talked and confessed to where he is, assuming she will get ' off' on the charges by claiming battered or something.
Color me Jaded but ...
This is Florida.
Tattoos and partying.
FB My Space posts talking of 'good times' post death.
Dressed like a floozy.
Skeletal remains of her found.
No cause of death.
Not sure who was caring for the child at the time.
Don't know who did what.
Will we see another acquittal?
The last time anyone saw Dontrell was July 2011 when his father walked out of his Hallandale Beach home with Dontrell and came back without him.
Dontrells mom asked what happened to their son. Melvin told her that he gave the baby to his parents in Pompano Beach so the boy could have a better life. The couple were having financial troubles.
Life went on without Dontrell.
The couple went on to have another child. The mother, who police did not identify Thursday, has a third child with a different father.
Members of one neighborhood family said they would see Melvin now and again, and would ask him: Hows Dontrell doing?
Melvins response: Oh, hes alright.
Months passed. The mother apparently accepted what Melvin told her the boy was with his grandparents and apparently didnt delve too deeply into the situation..
We cant get over that fact either, Maj. Thomas Honan said.

:what: :censored: omg. To all of it.
I do not know a single mother that would be cool with that. My husband gets the third degree if he takes the kids out and walks in the door without them at his heels. He knows better than letting them go home with friends or stay behind somewhere without calling me first.

ETA: Does that little <mod snip> not realize that even trying to use that story goes a long way in proving what a horrible mother she is?
I'm not trying to be argumentative and I have not seen the FB pages....
I don't think we can say no one bought him any presents for his birthday or Christmas. It's very possible presents were purchased and given to his parents because extended family did not see him. In fact, I'd bet that was the case.
I'm not sure what you mean might be fraud. It would only be fraud if she lied to obtain benefits, and we have no evidence she did. Family's with two parents living in the home also qualify for government assistance depending on their family size and income.
No argument from me. You may be completely right. I was just pondering the possibilities. Based upon the fact that the child wasn't seen for well over a year with no one really seeing a red flag, it seemed entirely possible that no one bought him presents because no one was invited to his 1st birthday party or was even aware of his birthday. As for Christmas, I wonder where the parents spent it and how they explained Dontrell's absence.
Perhaps someone did buy presents for the baby and the parents accepted them and gave them to the other child, re-gifted them, returned them for the money or just threw them out. It will be interesting to find out more about that.
As for gov't benefits. It's possible that they never received them although they would almost certainly qualify. Again it was just something i was wondering about. I was interested because the mom may well dodge charges in the death and disappearance of Dontrell but if she got benefits for him then she could be charged with fraud.
I would think if the dad was part of receiving benefits then he may have been required to look for work or seek job training etc. My state is that way. Further, they will go after a dad for child support if the child gets benefits.
Basically I am just outraged and want them charged with everything possible.
I agree we are all outraged. I too want them charged with everything possible.
I think we can say without a doubt, they both knew Dontrell was missing for 18 mo's. They both knew what had happened and the both lied to ALL of their family and friends about it.
Oh, I see what you mean about possible fraud. That she was collecting benefits or adding Dontrell when she knew he wasn't alive. That is very possible.
I'm really hoping this is a case where they are BOTH charged, like Ethan Stacy's dna contributor and her boyfriend.
Dontrell was an especially beautiful baby. I'm terribly saddened to know he was not cherished by his parents like babies should be.
lease:LE can put the pieces together on this one.

This is probably the most sickening case I've looked at. And yes there are children every day suffering unimaginable horrors and I get that. But there is something so unconcerned so callous , so non-human about just continuing on with your life as if the child was never born....and as if he never died. We are creating a society of humans who are not human. The instinct to protect and love your child exists in every species on earth so how is it that humans are moving away from that instinct? Last night I watched a predator show on nat geo about the cheetah. Mom cheetah put her life in danger all day every day distracting lions to keep her young safe . She hunted until she was on the verge of collapse to bring food for them to keep them alive. That is what a mom is supposed to do. What the heck is going on here?
Baby Dontrell, there are dozens of people on this one tiny little website who never touched your face but care more about you than the parents who created you. You will be missed and tears will be shed for you little man.![]()
