"Hoskins worked as*Sievers’ assistant for seven years, consulting with patients after they met with the doctor. She now works for another doctor across the hall."

Consulting? Nope. Sorry, as a nurse I do not do that. That word... CONSULT. I consult with the doctors, not the patients. It might as well say "sell". Imo
Teach, discuss, reiterate- discharge instructions, verify a patient understands the doctors orders? Yes. Its conflict of interest there. Patients health needs vs marketing products.

100% agree.

100% agree.
*A marketing consultant works with companies to create and implement marketing strategies. These strategies are centered on the core of the business and what services and products they offer.

Yeah, THAT you don't learn in nursing school.
Free samples are OK. Beyond that? No.

I think it is a good time to repeat this information taken from the LS Wellness Connection FB page on 7/3/15: "If anyone is interested donating to Dr. Teresa Sievers fund I have set up for her family go to her website". I would be willing to bet having that initial 🤬🤬🤬 request modified had a major impact on a couple of people.

I can't help but wonder whether SH was concerned for Dr. Sievers because her hinky meter had been going off for a while and that's why she drove to her house so quickly to check on her. imho

Doctors prescribe from the PDR. Medication that has been studied, tested, and approved for use.
Nutritional supplements, vitamins, herbs etc have not gone through all the channels. Some are even dangerous in the event you need anesthesia for surgery. The doctors I worked with would not recommend them much less sell them. Now I get the comment about breaking the rules.
What to do if your doctor tries to sell you something.

American Medical Association advises that physicians who distribute nonprescription health products provide them free or at their own cost.

Moo. Find a new Doctor!

I think it's a good time to pray that the children (& pets) are safe and being taken care of properly. It's obviously a very stressful time. I hope family members are keeping a watchful eye over their well-being.

Maybe not announcing the identity of the new doctor is because they do not have a new doctor (yet), just trying to stall patients from getting their medical records and moving on. Just a thought. If someone has been hired then why keep it secret?

ETA- LvsAMystry, we read each others minds!

Normally, it can take months for a practice to get a new doctor on board. The financial arrangements, possibly relocating, spending time with the other doctors to make sure it is a decent fit. Is MS hiring a rent-a-doc until a real search & hiring can take place? Very strange for a single practice physician, IMO. Would the new doc answer to MS, who is not a doctor? Would a new doc be obligated to try to sell the same products as Dr. Sievers? Kind of a problematic situation for a new doc, if you ask me.

Would they be allowed to due to Hippa without a subpoena?

No, I see no way LE could have the records without a subpoena and video footage of LE carrying boxes of files out of the office.

Italicized and Underlined by Me:

Hmmm...

RE: The part where "Failure to do so may subject the physician to disciplinary action."

Unfortunately.. there is no physician to subject disciplinary action to, in this case...

Maybe someone will use this as a loophole?

:dunno:

No, they would just fine the practice.

Hi Group: So you know, there are a few businesses - FOR FEE - that whisk licensed medical doctors in to some place that in need, lickety split, for varying short term time commitments. It's BIG money for the few businesses that do it, and nomadic doctors have fun doing it - I have seen listings in the past - the pay is beyond lucrative - where the need for a doc' is quite desperate, the hourly pay can be phenomenal for the doc'.

Also, this husband reminds me very, very much of a 'local' here in the Mpls. area who is a 'wheeler dealer' and likes to try to get hold of licensed professionals (one particular sort) and 'run the entire show' (it's actually a married couple...). This married couple is well known to 'some of us' because, for one, they bring Yawn just a ton of outrageous lawsuits, on and on and on - - you know, like "you liar, you dare to say you fell in that open/uncovered well in my yard, so I am going to sue yo' @xx for a gwazillion dollars - intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, fraud, defamation of character, blah blah blah". I imagine I cannot post the names of these 2.... I do hope somebody 'catches' 'em sometime and they wind up on that show American Greed, or American Takedown.

I would think this would be easily relayed by MS....

For instance: "We must wait for LE to release the files before we can provide them to the patients."

But he said "No Comment"?....

:waitasec:

LE is not holding up people getting copies of their own medical records.

I missed this new update on NBC-2 today.. part of the new development?

'Last week, many people who used to see Dr. Sievers received an email from her husband, Mark, informing them the medical practice would go on and the search for a “like-minded” doctor was underway.'

'Hoskins said she was surprised when patients began reaching out to her after they were having problems getting their medical records transferred from Sievers’ old office.'

I had a psychiatrist in solo practice... no office staff. She stopped returning calls and then went totally silent. Requests for my 15-year record went nowhere. It wasn't easy to find a new doctor he had to trust me and my medication bottles! Thank goodness I found one, but it's not easy without proper diagnosis, etc. It took over a year to "catch up" and when he retires soon, I'll have a record again!

BTW, from the link above:
“To make sure that one is still cared for, they require what was done in the past and what they're expected to do in the present and in the future, and we don't have that,” Hoskins said of the records.

This makes absolutely ZERO sense! Medical records show what was done by the doctor in the past and there are detailed notes about the patient's physical/mental condition over time. As to the present and future, that's up to the patient and the new doctor.

This is so hinky my needle is off the meter.

Wendy, how do you know this?

Also, is anyone here very worried about the well being of TS's children (& pets) or is it just me right now? You know, with all of that reported "unbearable stress" which I hope really meant unbearable sadness. Sadness in this situation seems more understandable--but stress? Not so sure.

....worried about those kiddies.....

Yes, I'm very concerned about the welfare of the children. The only thing that gives me any comfort is that we've heard they are staying with family members of Dr. Sievers and MS seems to have his hands full with office and financial matters. Not to mention that LE is probably keeping a really close watch on the family.

Isn't Teresa's sister a doctor too?

I lived in Cape Coral, FL for three years. I had my son at Lee Memorial in Fort Myers. In 1987 we decided to move back up north. At the time there was a law that your medical files were given in hand to you. I don't remember it costing anything. Perhaps the law has changed.

I cannot see LE holding up patients being able to receive their records. In the Arias case the was a lot of testimony about how LE clones the hard drive. Once the hard drive is cloned I would think the physical computer is released. Also, I would think that the records are kept in a software system on the computer and able to be accessed from other computers with todays technology of things being able to be stored in a cloud.

Its just my opinion, but I don't see LE being the reason why patients cannot get their records.

Yeah they would be facing some serious lawsuits if someone experienced a delay in care because there records weren't released in a timely manner.

You might be surprised but all doctors don't keep patients records on computers. For a great many reasons, like unreliability and confidentiality.
