Pasenger on a Canadian flight with checked weapon got his bag from baggage, loaded it in the bathroom and came back out shooting people.

Darn. Now law abiding citizens that need to travel with weapons like LE or hunters that travel to hunting destinations are likely going to have even more restrictions in the future.

Had an active duty military ID in his possession.

Former addresses include Alaska and Puerto Rico.

Has minor past criminal history.

Listening to that too...He also said no LE officer has discharged a weapon. Hmm

Local news reported the same - he was taken into custody without incident. No shots were fired during the apprehension.

That sure needs to change.

Unfortunately, Baggage claim cannot be within the secured area of the airport, or all of the things you have to check will be available to carry on. Flammables, weapons, etc. Unless we want to restrict those from even checked baggage? A lot of people check hazardous/dangerous items for various reasons. That's why you have to leave the secured area to claim bags.

ETA: As stated before, airports, no matter where the security checkpoint is, is ripe with clusters of people. It's the nature of that particular beast and all you can do is have well trained security keeping as close an eye out for threats as they can. It sucks :/

I fly to FLL often. I never feel worried or nervous there. Not like JFK or LGA or even Penn station. This is just horrible and unavoidable. IMO.

News just corrected it. It was AK --> MN --> FLL

He did return from bathroom TO that area. He didn't just come out of bathroom shooting.
