Just to show you how differently schools and states handle situations such as this one...check this out:

BROKEN ARROW, Okla.) April 11 - Students at South Intermediate in Broken Arrow are under investigation after beating up a classmate and posting it on YouTube.

Then, there's the video. “We think we have a pretty safe school right now. At that specific school", said Keith Isbell, spokesperson for the Broken Arrow School District.

"When we look into circumstances that were told about, we react", Isbell said. He says the school punished the teens involved, but he won't say how.

Isbell denies the fight is gang related. “Unfortunately, school fights have been around as long as schools have been around, more than a 100 years. So obviously we don't like to see what we saw and what you saw."

I think they are handling those thugs as they should be in FL. I hope that Broken Arrow,OK PD and their DA will act accordingly. There is no excuse for violent assaults to go unpunished criminally.

That is interesting SS. I know for certain that here in my county, these girls would be toast. they would be criminally tried as adults and it would be extremely serious.

I was shocked when I read about the case in Broken Arrow today. WTH? To make matters even worse, I believe the reports of it being gang related and for the school to ignore it is beyond comprehension. Are they afraid of retalliation themselves by going after these kids? Makes me wonder why they are hiding their heads in the sand on this.

I am not sure but in some cases if the victim does not want to press charges the school doesn't even have to call the police.

As an aside here are the conditions of bail:

Cowden limited the eight teenagers' movements as a condition of their release on bail. They are prohibited from:
•Contacting one another, the victim or the victim's family.
•Visiting Mulberry High School or any school-related functions.
•Visiting MySpace or any other social-networking site, chat room or forum on the Internet.
•Visiting the Wing House restaurant in Lakeland, where Lindsay has worked as a hostess for the past month.
Cindy Sarcen, Wing House general counsel, said from the company's Pinellas County headquarters that Wing House will comply with the judge's order and is considering whether additional security will be required.
"The Wing House does not condone any of these actions," Sarcen said. "We think they are horrible, especially in light of the fact that our organization's charitable efforts focuses on helping women and children in need.
"Our primary concern is for our employee and her safety. We will do whatever we can to support Tori and do whatever we can do to see that she gets back to work."

This made me sick. One of the parents said it was no "big deal", the girl wasn't seriously hurt. Another blames it on Sheriff Judd, saying he's just making a big deal out of it. Another one says it didn't happen the way VL said it did.

You know, it's not a stretch to see how these kids got to be this way. These moronic *parents* are wayyyyyyyyyyy outta line. It doesn't matter what VL says, or how loud Judd gets over this. One look at that video tells anyone all they need to know. I am in shock over their response. No apology to VL and her family, no remorse, no accountability at all. Of course their little darlings were LAUGHING AND GIGGLING. Garcia, who has THEE BIGGEST mouth out of all of them doesn't even live with her brat.

I seriously hope they throw the book, the pen, the pencil, the trash bag and the whole damn court room at them.

These parents are going to be sorry that they spoke out. At some point this whole thing will be scrutinized by colleges and future employers. These kids are going to be even worse off because of their parents stupidity. They should keep their mouths shut and their eyes open.


SS has me interested in other cases now. here is another:

4/4/08 - A sophomore in the Howell School District will be arraigned next week in district court on assault and battery charges, while three other students will face charges in juvenile court. The charges stem from a February 29th fight in the cafeteria at Parker High School in which authorities say the group of girls ganged up and beat another sophomore. 17 year old Whitney Paige Fishel will be arraigned Tuesday. The misdemeanor charges carry a maximum 93 day jail sentence. No court dates are available for the three juvenile cases. A fifth girl who denies taking part could also still be charged. A report by the Howell Police Department says the victim was punched by one of the girls and then beaten by the others who tore out her hair and ripped her nose ring out. A school security officer attempted to stop the fight, but was ignored.

I predict that the conditions of bail is going to be something they just can't live by. Fine with me. The more of them hauled off back to jail the better. When students are charged by the State Attorney's Office with a felony and are taken to jail or juvenile detention, they are automatically withdrawn from public school, said Wes Bridges, the school board's lawyer.

"At such time, the superintendent and her staff would consider if the presence of that child would pose an adverse impact on other students if they were to return to the school."<

I am not sure I like this principal though. he is really downplaying this whole incident and I think that is wrong:
