She's NOT that elderly- in her 70's. She's playing it up. And yes I've had 7 hour car rides. Not a big deal. We do it all the time to visit my daughter in another state.
1. Do you ride with handcuffs on?
2. Does your car have blacked-out windows?
3. Do you sit on a metal bench?
4. Do you have two people staring at you the whole time?
5. Do you have no input on when to stop for a break?

I believe it would be a big deal if you had to do #1 through #5.

It's not really about DA, it's about the next person who may be innocent that has to endure this type of treatment. if you believe LE always gets it right, John Grisham's latest (non-fiction) book "Framed" has many short stories about innocent people being arrested and convicted.

7 hour rides in a transport car with a narrow metal seat bench?

You are absolutely right. I had a conversation with a lawyer recently who told me that I have no idea how many innocent people are in prison.
My comment was not about anything other than cruel and inhumane treatment of someone not even tried yet.

I don't follow this case and don't remember where to look. I see her name is Donna Adelson but what county in FL?

And this is why we have bail. Bail determination considers the nature and seriousness of the offense, the accused's criminal history, the strength of the prosecution case, and the risk of the accused re-offending or failing to appear in court.

Thus if someone does not have a criminal history, the case against them is not strong and there is little risk of them refunding or absconding then the likelihood of them having to endure what DA did is slim to none.

Yeah I think there needs to be different levels of innocent or something then. You can't call someone with such a strong case against them innocent. Innocent = free from guilt, innocent of the crime. Stating the obvious, but if you have not yet been convicted of the crime that does not mean you are innocent of the crime. If the evidence against you is that strong that you are not offered bail, then you're not exactly innocent.

Again, given isolated cases in the USA judicial system of 100% innocent people with zero criminal background being locked up, convicted, and incarcerated, we have to have checks and balances, and error on the "innocent before guilty" side of the equation. Your perspective is not considering the possibility of a corrupt or incompetent chain of LE and judges in a given jurisdiction.

Nowhere have I seen anyone argue for a particular balance of incorrect outcomes in criminal cases. Should we let 10 criminals go free to save one innocent defendant? 100? 1000? A line must be drawn somewhere. Nobody wants to draw it. Not politicians. Not the public.

“Innocent until proven guilty’ has a specific meaning in the eyes of the law and I don’t think there is any reason to provide ‘levels’ of guilt. The prosecution has to convince a judge or jury, beyond a reasonable doubt, that you committed the crime you are charged with – until then you are ‘innocent until proven guilty’. In the eyes of the public or in the “court of public opinion”, the presumption of innocence does not have to be granted and freedom of speech allows anyone (in the US) to publicly express their opinion of someone’s innocence or guilt based on personal opinion.

Reading the thread, I know this started because Donna had to endure a 7-hour transport on a steel bench and the point was made its possible someone that is ‘truly’ innocent may be treated in an inhumane or harsh way. I would agree that the accommodations that were made for her transportation were less than ideal and wrong for someone that in the eyes of the law is considered innocent until proven guilty. Makes you wonder if someone purposely coordinated the ride to be uncomfortable as retribution for being an entitled pain in the a$$. I have no issue with anyone that felt a little schadenfreude watching her suffer, but I completely agree that it was wrong and inhumane.

One incorrect outcome is too many, but mistakes happen and there are many reasons including incompetence, corruption, and inexperience just to name a few. The system will never be perfect, but we should strive to eliminate the three things I mentioned in all jurisdictions – corruption should be on top of that list.

Yup good point.

Yeah you'd think so. The truck probably came with seats and cushions and they ripped them out specially for DA's trip.

Donna Adelson
  • I recall Donna Adelson’s daughter Wendi Adelson examination during son Charles Adelson’s trial when the State Attorneys discussed her emails to her daughter. Donna Adelson wrote to the effect of “you must be acting the best you could … You could do it …” while coaching Wendi for divorce proceedings
  • “Comedian” Donna Adelson is playing the acts of her life now. I have zero sympathy for this entitled woman who is indicted for first degree murder by Tallahassee Grand Jurors ... as long as she is treated such as any first degree murder suspect. And, it is my hope the Trial Jurors will find her guilty as charged
  • In her last bond hearing, assaults, threats, and extortion were all evoked to gather sympathy. However, the most bizarre and desperate claim is to the effect of “ear wax blocks her naturally narrow ear canal such that she should be afforded bail and stay at home to get specialized care for her ear wax maintenance.” The tragic and comic aspects of Donna Adelson’s life make her a good candidate as a tragicomedy playwright after her anticipated conviction and LWOP sentence.
I am sorry for the Leon County Sheriff’s jailers who have had to endure Donna Adelson's company for 7 hours in the confined space of a van.

Was rewatching Corbett’s (LE phone records expert) Charley trial testimony. Prosecution does not explore…if Donna called CA right after she got the call from WA about Dans shooting? Nor do I remember (not relevant now that CA is locked up) any questions to CA about when and how he reached out to console WA after he learned the news. Who Donna reached out to I think is relevant still. Anyone know who she called right after getting news from Wendi? Other than the call us ASAP text to CA to coordinate the money drop.

It's a good point hey. All this phone activity prior to the shooting, then radio silence. As soon as CA is told DanM has been shot you'd think he would be straight on the blower to his sister to see how she's doing?

Deposition churn, it's hard to keep up with them. Now cancelled (yesterday): Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jerome Obed, and Francis Magbanua.

I wonder why? Perhaps they simply planned to plead the 5th?
