FL -- FSU shooting, 2 dead 6 injured, shooter apprehended, Tallahassee campus. 17 April 2025.

It'll be interesting to find out whether or not either parent will be charged for giving him access to weapons. But he's 20 years old and an adult so unless he has verifiable mental health issues I don't see why the parents would be charged. IMO

In, FL, you have to be 21 to purchase a gun. So, under FL law, would he still be considered a minor re: the gun?
What are the requirements to purchase a firearm in Florida?

  • Must be 21 years of age. Rifles and shotguns may be purchased by a person who is at least 18 when that person is a law enforcement officer or correctional officer as defined in F.S. 943.10 or service member as defined in F.S. 250.01.

The FSU shooter, who killed two people on campus, is the son of a Leon County sheriff's deputy who used her firearm to commit the attack. He was trained to shoot guns at the department's youth advisory council.

The shooter also had a shotgun on him, but carries out the attack with a handgun. He is now in custody at a hospital and is invoking his right to remain silent.

Wondering if his "reasoning" is directed towards his step mom? He used her weapon, knew impact it would have on her since she worked for the Sheriff's department. Just throwing that out.
Everything that I've been reading that this kid has gone through as a young child and teen is absolutely horrible. I am sure he harbors some resentment internally. Nevertheless, he is an adult now and makes his own choices ~ regardless of how he may have been influenced mentally or emotionally by his past. Praying for all involved here especially the victims and their families.😢 🙏

Well, if there's any justice in FL, his life is about to get a whole lot worse. Hopefully, the public won't have to worry about him getting out to victimize more innocent people. No sympathy, no excuses.

Human garbage, JMO, who felt entitled to take the lives of strangers going about their day. A jerk living a nice middle class life with good colleges to go to, a nice car and every privilege our society could afford. That wasn't enough for him, though.

Perhaps the victims and families will have their own day in court through a civil trial.

It sounds like this guy had extreme views

ETA:

He also seemed to be targeting people randomly, according to this witness

(NewsNation) — A witness to Thursday’s shooting at Florida State University says she walked past the gunman as he began firing at people with a shotgun before the suspect switched to a pistol and targeted victims randomly.

“And he shoots the lady walking in front of him,” junior McKenzie Heeter told “CUOMO” on Thursday. “And that’s when I knew that there was no target. There was no one specific. It was just anybody he could see.”

From your link, it sounds like the killer's birth mother and family are blaming the father and step-mom. Apparently there was some parental alienation as the birth mom hadn't been able to see the killer for several years.

From the maternal grandmother:

'They taught him how to hunt, they're bigoted people, they hated a lot of people,' said 79-year-old grandmother Susan at her Tallahassee condo on Friday.

'He was the sweetest kid, smart…' she added before breaking down.

Recovering her composure and clearly very angry amid all the grief, she went on: 'The rotten baXXXXX people.

According to the maternal grandma, the father and step-mom "hate a lot of people". <modsnip: Nothing to support such specific speculation>

I just do not care about any ADHD diagnosis, ADHD is almost becoming normalized, and a way to prescribe drugs to teens. moo. imo
Plenty of students are talking about this guy... IMO and MOO he was no shrinking violet or suffering individual.

HOW was he able to get his hands on those weapons? WEAPONS, not just one?
Parents better be held accountable as well.

Florida better be tough, thats all I can say...
I've watched so many cases in Florida.... where people DO get away with murder, or take 80 years to come to justice.

I just feel such anger.
School shootings are just such deliberate, pre-planned depravity. There is not a single excuse acceptable at all.

Yep. Two sides to every (divorce with kids) story, but it sure sounds a GIANT relational mess, doesn't it?!

I agree with you. There's no excuse for his behavior. He's old enough to control his own beliefs and actions. He's a garbage human being, JMO

I agree. He should face 1st degree murder charges and all that goes along with it. And a potential death sentence.

Some nice photos of the two deceased, at the link. 😢
My condolences to their grieving families.
Rest in eternal peace, Tiru Chabba and Robert Morales.

Millions of people have ADHD and developmental delays. Those diagnoses are not in and of themselves indicative of an inablility to make decisions or know right from wrong. He was in a university and attending classes. He joined clubs and appeared to be able to function on the campus making day to day decisions.

Sorry. I am just tired of school shooters. If people are not able to make functional decisions, they should never have access to guns. If people are exhibiting mental health crisis, laws must make it so that their access to weapons is curtailed.

Not to mention, this guy probably knew enough that this was within the days of the anniversaries of Columbine, VaTech, Oklahoma City bombing, etc. which are often days that shooters see as an homage to previous killers. These days are etched in the minds of many school shooters and killers.
Tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing.

I just heard on CNN that he had a total trainwreck of a childhood, and they interviewed someone who was in a political club with him a couple years ago who said he was asked to leave because he said some really radical things that made them uncomfortable.

It also appears that he stole his stepmother's firearm.

I have a feeling he wouldn't be eligible for the death penalty, for reason of insanity.

I'm getting the impression that his parents were never married; please correct me if I am wrong. I also wonder, since his two fatalities were Hispanic, if he targeted that ethnicity specifically.

ETA: On closer view, Tiru Chabba was most likely of Southwest Asian descent - Turkey, Iran/Iraq, or the southern former Russian republics.

Are you asking if the are "de-sensitized?" No, they are not. Why would they be?

Because studies show that most kids are afraid and some are desensitized by the constant coverage. So I was wondering if they were desensitized by the coverage and that's why they're not afraid.

MOO.
