According to his grandmother in theDM article linked above, he hadn’t seen his birth mother in about 10 yrs. His primary influences during that time likely have been his father and stepmother. He and his father and step mom have to accept that. It also sounds like he was involved in LE community based activities. Somewhere along the line he became involved in white supremacy groups and ideology. It will be interesting to learn more about his online activities.
I was talking about the time he was with his birth mother in Norway.

Thanks, I understand. That was still a very long time ago. He's an adult now and spent most of his life with his father and stepmother. He should know right from wrong.

Exactly. There isn't always a scapegoat. Sometimes, the kid is just a criminal.

The media and politicians always try to look for some other cause and most of the time, it just isn't there. The SSRI blame game begins in 3...2...1.....

MOO
Retired teacher here. 36 years in the high school profession. Taught 4 murderers, plus a few who are incarcerated for various other reasons. Think to mafia days and contract killers and wonder how anyone call just kill. Think Stephen Paddock and the Las Vegas shooting that killed 60, personally wounded 413 people he did not know with still no known reason. Yes, I taught really good people, but there are bad apples.

SO many, many possibilities of the actual truth imo. It's reading so far as a giant (explosive) 💩 show from ALL directions. Sadly. All I can do is pray for an seek and justice for all involved 🙏
Like most other cases of mass murder shootings, it seems tragically uncomplicated. An angry, narcissistic killer decides he should seek some sort of revenge, gain fame and attention or punish someone by killing as many people as possible.

If not victims of bullying, they're often "grievance collectors" and malignant narcissists. They often spend a lot of time on social media researching and discussing their plans.

A couple of years ago, the FBI began a special program to track these creeps on the internet, identify those most dangerous and try to prevent these mass shootings. I really worry that this FBI program has been ended, which is a very scary thought. Our biggest threats have been "home grown" terrorists, like this creep.

There was a kid from small town In alberta who was talking to some friends online and he wrote 3 words. In the morning they said Homeland Security? ( or some L/E body) raid their house at 6 am and seized computers, phones etc It got the school shut down for a day over Christmas which happened to be the day of their Christmas concert
Police wont confirm the nature of the threats. I wont repeat the phrase, but suffice to say it had the word "poppin" in it. They must have words flagged.
It was not a threat, as it turned out, but was in reference to how he would have reacted to something.

The suspect, 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner, arrived at a campus parking garage at about 11 a.m. and stayed in the area for around an hour, moving in and out of his car, police said.

Ikner left the garage at 11:51 a.m., police said, and then between 11:56 and 11:57 a.m. he started firing a handgun, police said. The shooting was reported to 911 by 11:58 a.m., police said.

At noon, Ikner was shot by officers and taken into custody, police said. He's expected to survive and remains hospitalized as of Saturday morning.

As classes are set to resume on Monday at Florida State University following an on-campus mass shooting last week, the school's president announced that mandatory attendance is being waived for the current semester's final week of classes.

I think many have been questioning the parents - not involvement but ideology. Guess this will come out if it's involved.

Marris said Florida prosecutors would have to consider a number of critical questions, among them: How did the alleged shooter access his mother’s gun? Did she let him use it? Did she know or should have known that he had a propensity for violence? Were there warning signs he would use a gun to shoot someone? Did she know he could access the gun?

“This is particularly important because if there was an awareness that he may be violent and the gun was left accessible then there could certainly be legal consequences for his mother on a civil negligence or possibly criminal negligence theory,” Marris said.”

According to the article, Ikner was prescribed medication for “emotional disregulation”, but had stopped taking it.

Emotional dysregulation is a bit vague, but I wonder if he had problems with anger. His friends said he had extreme political views, saying things like “Rosa Parks was in the wrong”.

He is still recovering from serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Once he recovers, he will be moved to a detention facility. I assume that means the county jail. I hope so. I hope he isn’t released on bail.

Since the killer is 20 yrs old, it’s unlikely the stepmother will face criminal charges, JMO, but will probably face a civil lawsuit for damages from the victims and surviving family.

The sheriff said the killer was deeply involved with activities in the sheriff’s department, so it wouldn’t be unusual for him to have access to weapons. One has to question the wisdom of that considering the killers extreme and violent views were well known to his friends. That’s not normal, JMO.

FSU student victims of the shooting march to capitol to protest lax gun policies

This was the 6th mass shooting in Florida this year.

On Tuesday, four FSU students — including two who had been huddled in a barricaded classroom during the Thursday shooting — walked to the Capitol Rotunda with House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell of Tampa to accuse Florida lawmakers of complicity in mass shootings around the state with their support of policies normalizing gun violence.

“All we got was Gov. DeSantis releasing a single Twitter video. Not even a written statement. This disconnect between what happened and the governing majority’s blanket of silence is just disgusting,” said Simon Monteleone, a 19-year-old student and campus activist from Cape Coral.

Have there been updates on the shooter's recovery status?

The shooting on April 17 left two people dead and six others injured, not including Ikner, who was also shot and injured. On Tuesday, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare announced that five of the six injured victims have been released from the hospital.
The same day, the Tallahassee Police Department confirmed that Ikner, who was shot in the jaw by responding officers, was still in the hospital. Officials said it could be "several weeks" before he's discharged due to his injuries.
