GUILTY FL - Gail Cleavenger, 46, slain by teenage son in dispute over grade, DeBary, 2 Nov 2018

When I was growing up, if a child got a bad grade in a certain subject, we were always encouraged to try harder (not that I ever got bad grades, lowest was a C in algebra). We certainly did not consider ourselves on a par with the parents nor threaten to kill them by strangling them.

Everything about this boy's actions scream more Psychopath than "Millennial" - and don't get me wrong....I'm not a fan of Millennials!

This is so much more than a spoiled brat.

So much more.

Kids have sure changed. I wonder if this kid had a Father in the house? It seems like having a Father really makes a difference. No disrespect to single mothers who do a great job, or kids who grew up without a father, and did not shoot anyone.

But, there have been several shootings, where the male child kills his mother, and there is no male figure in the home. No child should have access to guns, ever. Even a 15 year old male, should only have access to weapons with an adult. This case reminds me of Adam Lanza, who also killed his Mother.

Not really. You are just hearing about these cases due to the Internet and cable television. 40-50 years ago you would have never heard about this case. In the 1960's, in my county, a teenage boy killed his mother and four siblings over grades. The father was overseas in Vietnam.

In the 1940's a teenage boy killed his entire family (I believe five people) over a curfew time.

I doubt that anyone outside this state ever heard of the cases. Kids haven't changed but the way we consume the news has.

DeBary teen accused of killing mother to remain locked up
The DeBary teenager accused of strangling his mother to death because of an argument over school grades will remain in detention, a judge ruled Sunday.

[...]

The two accused of being Ramos’ accomplices — Dylan Ceglarek, 17, and Brian Porras, 17 — also students at the same high school in Orange City, were released and placed in home detention but ordered to wear ankle monitors.

Ramos’ attorney, public defender Larry Powers, appointed by the court, did not have much to say and agreed with the judge’s decision that probable cause existed to detain Ramos on the murder charge.

Assistant State Attorney Tammy Jacques said after the hearing that prosecutors are working on whether Ramos will be charged as an adult.

As of right now... I see no reason why this vicious teen should be released , ever.
You do the crime-- you can do the time.
Something in his photos chills me.

If he's willing to murder his own mother... imagine what he'd do to anyone who offended him ? Even after many years and even decades have passed ?
What if someone's dog runs onto his lawn -- say when he's in his 30's or 40's ? What will he do to someone who angers him ?

Might be thinking too severely.
But I'd never want this person living next door to me .

Given his age... will he be 'rehabilitated' and released when he's 21 ? Or 30 yrs. old ?

Feeling like there's no future for people who slaughter their own family members. It doesn't get much worse than that.

I think he'll be charged as an adult and get life. But, since he's a minor he'll have the opportunity for parole. I hope he never gets parole, though, as I agree that he's a threat to society. Killing his mother over such a minor dispute -- many kids are lectured and even punished by parents over grades and yet they don't kill their parents over it. The mother had gone to bed -- the dispute was over and done with. But, this kid decided to murder his mother and strangled her twice before she died. He knew what he was doing. This was without question premeditated. I hope he never, ever sees the light of day again. JMO

Stepfather lived in home w/ mother and her son. I've not seen
any mention of bio-father.
A friend lives within 400 ft. of church where body was buried
and a couple blocks from home where crime occurred.
My friend says these young teens in this neighborhood would
be in the street when you try to drive by and would not move
or get out of the way- like defying the car driver to hit them.
These teens are out of control.
Local sheriff says the church where she was buried is an
after hours site where the teens drank and did drugs.

yes, classic textbook Psychopath!
A millennial or normal teen would just whine + pout like your average teen or go smoke pot with friends.

Poor lady! RIP
This kid probably ran the show around the house and never or rarely heard no since he was born, and when he became a teenager it was too late for discipline. Step dads aren't given much authority to discipline and that creates strain also. Too little too late. No doubt he has a major screw loose. (IMO)
This reminds of the Jackie Reynolds case. She stabbed her mother to death because she was grounded.

LOVE your name.

"The sheriff says that Ramos described the phone call he made to authorities about the alleged break-in as “Grammy-winning.” Among the things that the sheriff described as “not adding-up” was that Cleavenger did not show up for work on the morning of November 2."

Did that waste of skin mean Oscar-winning? No wonder he got a D.

Maybe he delivered an over-the-phone singing telegram to the 911 operator.
