Found Deceased FL- Gary Levin 74, Lyft driver, no contact aft he pu riders, car seen sev cities, red 2022 Kia Stinger, Palm Beach Gardens, 30 Jan 2023 *arrest*

Poor Mr. Levin. This is so awful. Praying for him and his family. I grew up close to the area of S FL where he was living in PBG. This hits home. Okeechobee is very rural with lots of ranch land. It's very different than coastal Florida & the Palm Beach Garden area ( it's inland, not so busy - very isolated). There's so much area to search - just in Okeechobee alone (where his phone was turned off).Praying for a good outcome but worried...

I hope they can find out where in Okeechobee he was based on the GPS. There’s not a lot there.

"The first thing I said to Gary was, 'What took you so long to call me back? He said, I have someone in the car, driving to Okeechobee,'" said Rice.

I live in Palm Beach County, and have been following the story. Okeechobee has a lot of areas that can be used for dumping a body; it has happened in the past. The arrested passenger sounds ruthless and violent, and I don't think he would hesitate to kill. I hope and pray that Gary is still alive, but I'm not optimistic.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the discovery of human remains in Okeechobee County.

CBS12 News has learned the remains have been found near the Okeechobee County Agri-Civic Center off SR 70.

The remains have not been identified.

However, the scene is not far from where missing Lyft driver Gary Levin dropped off a passenger before he vanished on Monday.

From that same article: "As we were getting ready to hang up, one of the things Gary did all the time, he would say. 'I love you, Howard,' and he would not get off the phone until I said, I love you too, and he did that," said Rice

Really? Since last week? Decomp in FL is faster bit not THAT fast. It’s been cool here, not hot. Perhaps that is a different man than Gary?

Snip
Deputies with Okeechobee Sheriff's Office said they could not identify or determine the cause of death due to the extreme decomposition of the body.

It is a place where criminals from more populated areas have gone to dump bodies, so it could be someone else. However, in this account, a local Palm Beach County station, the article states that there is some decomposition, but the word extreme is not used. Remains found in Okeechobee County near where missing Lyft driver last reported

We don't know just yet. I've been thinking about Gary, a retiree who just needed some extra money in this era of rising prices.

The article sounds confident this is him. Such a sad senseless murder if it is confirmed.

So sad. I feel it's probably Mr Levin. LE will also know what he was wearing. They spotted him at a convenience store/gas station stop that day, IIRC. Family could ID jewelry. We've had some roller coaster weather and 2 days were in the 80's. We were all hoping for a different outcome...

I couldn’t agree more with your sentiment, @Warwick1991. It seems so monstrously unfair that a senior would seek out a little extra money trying to provide a service to those who lack other means of transportation and his reward is to be senselessly murdered (senselessly in that the car was ditched, I think, and IDK whether or not passengers can pay Lyft drivers with cash, but I haven’t read anything about any of Gary’s money being stolen yet) and unceremoniously dumped out like so much garbage.
I know many folks at WS feel that crimes against children are the worst possible crimes, and I know it’s not a competition, but I personally feel the most rage and sorrow when I read about crimes against seniors/the elderly most to heart (and I’m not even CLOSE to elderly).

It gnaws at me like nothing else when I hear of crimes against the elderly (and I'm also not even close to elderly). I feel the punishment should be much worse when you harm the elderly, children, the disabled, or the homeless.

Family and friends await answers after human remains found near missing Lyft driver's last location

"He’s a good friend. Not just with me, but other people that he knows,” said Rice. "Unfortunately, it doesn’t look all that great.

On Thursday night, police arrested Matthew Flores in North Carolina, a suspect in a murder out of Hardee County.

Police say Flores crashed Levin’s Kia after a high speed chase. At this point, Flores is being held in jail on multiple charges, but none right now that are related to Levin’s disappearance.
