Subject: Request for Information Regarding John Gerard Schaefer’s Residency and Interactions

I am writing to you in my capacity as a criminalist conducting research on the life and activities of John Gerard Schaefer. As part of this investigation, we are seeking to speak with individuals who may have had contact with Schaefer during various stages of his life. Our objective is to gather additional details regarding his whereabouts, interactions, and any potential victims or witnesses who may have relevant information.

To provide some background, Schaefer was born in Neenah, Wisconsin, and later moved with his family to Nashville, Tennessee, and Atlanta, Georgia. In 1960, the Schaefer family settled in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As an adult, Schaefer married Martha and attended Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in 1968, while renting a property on SW 22nd Street in Fort Lauderdale. During this period, they then moved and rented an apartment in Stuart, Florida.

We are also interested in speaking with anyone who may have traveled with Schaefer, particularly during his overseas trip to Africa in 1970 and his subsequent fishing trips to the Florida Keys in 1971.

Below are some known addresses associated with Schaefer during his lifetime:
  • 3790 Ashford, Dunwoody Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30319
  • 333 Martin Ave, Stuart, FL 34996
  • Possible address for Schaefer’s mother, Doris M. Schaefer: 2716 SW 34th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312
  • Florida State Prison (where Schaefer was incarcerated until his death in 1995)
If you or anyone you know had any direct or indirect interactions with Schaefer—whether as a neighbor, classmate, coworker, or acquaintance—we would greatly appreciate your assistance. Additionally, we are seeking information from anyone who may have knowledge of Schaefer’s violent actions, even if these events were never reported to law enforcement.

Your cooperation in this matter could prove invaluable to our ongoing research. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any relevant information or would be willing to speak further.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

The Treasure Coast Institute for Cold Cases

The out of print book is called Killer Fiction, but there is no way to confirm if some, any, or all of the writings found by LE are in the book. I will comment more after I dig the book out.
I read Killer Fiction years ago. It gave me nightmares.

His name is Gerard John Schaefer Jr.
Yes, that is his full name. Most of the time he left the John off and went by Gerard or his friends who have interviewed call him Jerry.

My father was a long haul truck driver at that time. He actually met Schaefer at a local bar and at first they became drinking buddies. He would come to our home at least once a week, and a few times we were invited to his home for cookouts and so we could play in his pool. When they first became friends Schaefer said his name was John and that he was a undercover narcotics officer. At some point he said he "left" that job due to stress, so my father spoke with his boss and Schaefer was hired as a loader/unloader. If my memory serves me correctly, shortly after that Schaefer was hired as a police officer by submitting a fake recommendation from his"Boss in Narcotics Division". All I can really remember about him is that my grandmother (my fathers mother lived with us) and my mother both distrusted him.Anytime he came over they would send us outside to do things or to our rooms. He had the greasiest hair I had ever saw, and I thought he always smelled funny.

Thank you for sharing not only the personal information you have on your dad's "relationship" with GS but even more so, your sister. She is on our list as someone we and LE believes GS is responsible for her going missing.

I have questions that I would like to ask if that would be ok. I have been working on this case for almost twenty years as well as alongside several LE agencies which have connections with GS. So much has been written and spoken about GS that is inaccurate that we need corrected in order to move forward for the sake of the victims' and their loved ones.

My intent is to meet/interview as many family or connections as possible to bring this case to the point of public interest and have them officially re-opened.

Thank you for this information and I hope to hear from you. Here is my direct contact info:

Very hard to say , a rule of thumb i use is to take the number of known victims, and you can add anywhere from 3-10 or so more but the count is often much lower than expected, especially if the numbers are based on the killers own claims.

Gerard Schaeffer was an absolute monster.

Schaefer in some ways reminds me of Dean Corll in his sadistic urges. I am convinced, as I am with Dean Corll, that there are more victims than we can imagine.

Gerald definitely has way more victims than we know of. Who knows how many young women and girls he picked up as hitchhikers who were never reported missing. We just have to hope that those who love and miss them come forward to report their disappearances.

Gerald was more sadistic than most serial killers. He tortured pretty much all of his victims, tied them to trees, kept their possessions, and IIRC in a letter he claimed to have cannibalized the bodies of Peggy Rahn and Wendy Stevenson. He was evil and I’m fairly convinced his victim count could come close to those of Gary Ridgeway or Ted Bundy.

Yeah I agree, and with the trips he took out of state to visit family and friends it could be astronomical.
