Subject: Request for Information Regarding John Gerard Schaefer’s Residency and Interactions
I am writing to you in my capacity as a criminalist conducting research on the life and activities of John Gerard Schaefer. As part of this investigation, we are seeking to speak with individuals who may have had contact with Schaefer during various stages of his life. Our objective is to gather additional details regarding his whereabouts, interactions, and any potential victims or witnesses who may have relevant information.
To provide some background, Schaefer was born in Neenah, Wisconsin, and later moved with his family to Nashville, Tennessee, and Atlanta, Georgia. In 1960, the Schaefer family settled in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As an adult, Schaefer married Martha and attended Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in 1968, while renting a property on SW 22nd Street in Fort Lauderdale. During this period, they then moved and rented an apartment in Stuart, Florida.
We are also interested in speaking with anyone who may have traveled with Schaefer, particularly during his overseas trip to Africa in 1970 and his subsequent fishing trips to the Florida Keys in 1971.
Below are some known addresses associated with Schaefer during his lifetime:
If you or anyone you know had any direct or indirect interactions with Schaefer—whether as a neighbor, classmate, coworker, or acquaintance—we would greatly appreciate your assistance. Additionally, we are seeking information from anyone who may have knowledge of Schaefer’s violent actions, even if these events were never reported to law enforcement.
- 3790 Ashford, Dunwoody Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30319
- 333 Martin Ave, Stuart, FL 34996
- Possible address for Schaefer’s mother, Doris M. Schaefer: 2716 SW 34th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312
- Florida State Prison (where Schaefer was incarcerated until his death in 1995)
Your cooperation in this matter could prove invaluable to our ongoing research. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any relevant information or would be willing to speak further.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
The Treasure Coast Institute for Cold Cases
