Maybe that sock has DNA of the perp. Maybe the perp tried to get rid of her clothing but overlooked that sock.

"The body was found on October 8, 2020, during the restoration project of Sunset Memorial Cemetery within a clandestine grave."

What do you suppose "clandestine grave" means? Did she die a non-suspicious death and was illegally buried here by loved ones who couldn't afford a proper funeral service? Or was there foul play? I suppose if she was buried with no clothing except for one sock it makes the latter more likely, sadly.

I wish there was more info available in her case - I wonder if they have an estimate of when the burial took place?

An unrecorded burial - so if a crime, maybe the perp thought she would blend in and nobody would be alarmed or concerned with a fresh grave? Hmm.

I wonder what else they'd find if the community got in there and restored this once beautiful resting place.

Snip:
Once operated and maintained by Florida's first African-American millionaire, the current condition of this cemetery district makes it one of the most disturbing places in the city.

Situated at the southwest corner of Moncrief Road and Edgewood Avenue, land for Sunset Cemetery was acquired by the Memorial Cemetery Association in 1913. Sunset Cemetery was known as a “fashionable” burial location for wealthy African-Americans in Jacksonville prior to desegregation. Sunset is dominated with cedar and arbor vitae trees planted in the 1930s as a part of a formal landscape plan. Despite burials taking place as late as the 1990s, this cemetery is in a deplorable condition.

The sketch favors a girl from Columbus who is still missing. Her name is Ebony Giddens and she was 27 when she went missing in 2018.

I know NAMUS often links to inaccurate spots and that one appears to be someone's backyard. So I tracked down the actual location she was found (or near enough) which is likely somewhere in here. While there's no marker for it on Google Maps, Find A Grave lists Sunset Memorial Cemetery as being "across the street" from Memorial Cemetery, which fits with that spot, and graves are visible from satellite and street images.

Action News Jax Investigates timeline of Brittany Palmer missing-person case

23-year-old Palmer was last seen in August 2020, and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office started investigating her disappearance that September.
[...]
“The body was found October 8th, 2020 — about a month and a half after she went missing,” Mobley told Action News Jax’s Courtney Cole in an interview on Tuesday.

But Mobley said she did not receive a positive identification of her daughter’s remains from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office until Monday, February 14th, 2022.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It's been a long 18 months of wondering and waiting for Vontria Mobley. Her 23 year-old daughter Brittany Palmer had been missing since August 2020.
[...]
It's unclear how Palmer ended up at the cemetery, which is about a 45 minute walk or 8 minute ride from her last known location.

Remains found in Jacksonville cemetery identified as Brittany Palmer who disappeared in 2020

[...]
Brittany’s mother said Monday that a JSO detective told her the remains were positively identified as Brittany.

“I was distraught. I was hurt, because my DNA had been on file since the very beginning of this case. And for you to find remains and not put it through the database to find out who those remains belong to … if they wasn’t Brittany, anybody else that it could have been, too…and for it to take this long, it was very devastating to me,” said Mobley.
