So, I'm having a hard time with the idea that a relative has had the body of this poor child for that long. They must have known. Are they involved with her death? They must have known. I wonder who called with the information. This is so awful.

It sounds like the mother just moved the freezer to this home on Wednesday and it was locked. Relatives got suspicious, opened it and called the police when they saw the body. So I would say they are probably not involved and have had the freezer just a few days. What a horrific thing to find!

From the articles above it stated (POSSIBLE RUMOR!!) that the "mom" (we all know she's not a mom/mother) took the freezer to her sick grandmother's home & left it in the garage this past week. And that the freezer was locked. So after CPS took the other kids out of the house, mom gets the freezer out of her house. Makes me absolutely sick. I cannot even fathom that a human being could/would do this to their own child. Praying for this sweet angel's siblings. Praying they get far far away from this woman they've been calling "mother", because she most certainly is no where near that.

There is another case here on WS where a "mother" had murdered more than one child and kept them in a freezer in the living room while she and other siblings lived there. I can't even begin to imagine what those poor surviving children must have thought, knowing...

During a press conference late Sunday night, the Bradenton Police Department said they are waiting for confirmation from the medical examiner, but that the body, which they believe is likely Janiya, was found in a freezer in her maternal grandmother's garage located in the 5000 block of 21st Way East."

Your link is a must read:

Police said the girl's aunt and grandmother made the discovery after seeing that she was missing. The girl's mother, Keishanna Thomas, had brought the freezer over to the house on Wednesday with another man, who police have yet to identify.
...
Prior to the discovery, Thomas was under investigation by Child Protective Services regarding a claim of child abuse by one of the children.

After investigating, case workers from the Department of Children and Families came to Thomas' home last week to take her five children into their custody, but Janiya was not there and they say Thomas refused to offer an explanation
...
Police said the girl had a medical condition that caused her to frequently miss the bathroom. It's the same condition that Janiya's father died of.

Disgusting.

Ugh! That is absolutely heartbreaking. Devastating news. I suppose one glimmer of anything positive is it will be easier for the coroner to determine the cause & manner of death so that the responsible person pays for what they did to her.

If I find out this lovely young lady was put in that freezer alive as punishment, I'm going to have to leave WS forever.
It just gets worse and worse with the depravity of every case.

Hopefully not. My guess is mom beat Janiya to death because of her problem with her bladder and bowels. That's what LE speculated in the press conference and it rings true.

WTH was mom thinking - she refused to talk and she moved the freezer. Did she really think she was going to get away with it? A plea deal is going to be difficult for her now that Janiya's been found. Her plea ship has sailed.

I hope she rots in jail for many, many years...

Did these people say anything about where they thought the girl was for the last year? Am I missing something? They only became suspicious in the last couple days when she was finally reported missing, and then thought about the freezer? What did people think had happened to her? Especially if all the other kids were still with the mom until they were taken away. I am not understanding how it took so long to report her missing and then she is found literally within a day or two in a freezer. That poor baby girl.

What kind of condition causes someone to be unable to hold their bowels...and it also kills them (her father)? I'm confused by that.

Missing for over a year before reported missing - so much like Erica Parsons, except Erica has not been found. :(

Possibly crohn's disease. It can lead to cancer I believe.

ETA: Or ulcerative colitis. I have had relatives with both of those diseases.

OMG. I hope she didn't sell her to one of her pimps or clients. :praying:

Such a sweet sensitive face. My heart is breaking...

You took the words (and fears) right out of my mouth. SMH. My first thought.

What are the chances it was plugged in, and not just used as a dumpster. :(

I'd say no one could be that cruel... But I'd be lying ...

Since joining websleuths I no longer say

" can it get any worse"

Nope, but it always does, always. Right this minute there is probably a dead young child being hidden by the person who is supposed to be their parent. They just haven't been caught yet

"Mom" could have claimed the little girl was being homeschooled because of her medical needs, which would explain why the school didn't question her absence. Poor girl. I pray the freezer was at least plugged in while it was at the mom's house so that her body can be examined for cause of death. I'd hate to see this person acquitted by a jury who believed the girl died from her illness and mom just got scared and hid the body.
