Found Deceased FL - Jennifer Bennett, 27, Miami, 9 June 2016

The thing I keep coming back to is her flip-flops left in the car. I live in Florida, and I (very) often kick my flip-flops off while driving. However, I would never get out of the car without them on. Why? Because the pavement/blacktop/road/whatever is HOT. It was in the 90s that day, and the sun doesn't set until after 8 PM. So even if her car broke down and she voluntarily exited the car, I strongly believe she would have slipped her sandals back on before getting out (unless maybe it was after dark).

Also, does anyone know how to find more precise weather records? I'm interested in why the police officer thinks the car seats would be wet if it had been there long... According to weather.com, there was 0.31 inches of rain in that zip code on June 9th and 0.13 inches of rain on June 10th (https://weather.com/weather/monthly/l/33169:4:US), but I can't seem to find records of where it actually rained (Florida rain is weird, I've had numerous experiences where it was raining in the front yard but not the backyard or vice versa) or what time it actually rained (again, Florida has weird rain-we always joke that if it's raining, just wait 5 minutes and it'll be sunny again!).
I think it was dark and late.
Otherwise she may have been OK out on a busy, sunny road.

Thanks for taking the time to check the weather. In the heat, it seems like wet seats could dry really quickly, too. I think we should toss out the police officer's statement unless/until we get some clarification that gives his statement more validity. I'm still curious about the car's battery. In the summer, it's common for a battery to bite the dust. When that happens, you won't be able to start the car. But this car was running. Anyone who has used jumper cables knows that a car with a bad battery will start via jumper cables and stay running until someone shuts off the vehicle. So, the bad battery just can't be the reason her car stopped running. More likely, the battery isn't bad but was out of juice because someone purposefully ran it out of juice by leaving a light or the stereo on. The vast majority of broken down cars suffer from one of two conditions: an overheated radiator or a flat tire. It would be easy to rule out those two possibilities. The same goes for an engine problem or a fuel issue.

The more I think about it, the more I believe her car never broke down at all. And that means she was somewhere else on the evening of June 9 and that someone moved her car to the expressway.

Her flip-flops though ...why move the car there and care enough to put the flip-flops back in place? JMO

I think the news reports have changed their tune about the body found in bags?

They changed the title of the article from "Body parts found in bags" to "Work crew finds body in bushes". And I notice the reporter in the video says: "we were able to see two bags and a body near those bags".

Hmmmm......the dogs had her scent and followed a trail that didn't go anywhere.......Dogs can tell the difference between a live person and a dead one, right?
Was she alive when she got out of the car?! The investigators were somewhat relieved when the dogs picked up her scent outside the car because that meant she was able to get out of the car on her own. Was there someone in the passenger seat with a gun. He/she made her stop, get out and then she was either hit or shot and pushed over the guardrail.

She didn"t have the opportunity to put her flip flops on. And maybe didn't have the opportunity to shut off her headlights...thus running down the battery.

I'm very interested where the trail stopped. Was it at the guardrail of the expressway? And if so, doesn't it make sense to look into the area below?! I don't care how overgrown it was.

When I read this thread, I instantly thought self harm. Then, with the dismemberment things, I obviously abandoned that. Now that it might not be that, I am leaving open again. The main reason is because I had a mental health client once. She got a cab, prepaid him and then jumped out and over the bridge as he was driving. It was super sad. The thing the driver kept saying was "she left her shoes behind". The shoes reminded me of that. Lots of times people leave shoes and belongings during self harm. They no longer need them.

Of course, I really just hope she's ok somewhere.

When I read the report that she sometimes used MDMA, it made me think of another recent case here, that of Rye Hunt. He and a friend were vacationing in Rio, and tried what they thought was MDMA but now was believed could have been MBOMe, a more powerful and hallucinogenic drug. The two of them became extremely paranoid and thought other club-goers wanted to kill them. While his friend seemed to recover by the next day, Rye then thought his friend was trying to kill him and separated from his friend, and became missing from that point. Bizarrely and tragically, his body was later found washed ashore, having drowned after swimming to and from an uninhabited island.

I'm kind of ignorant about either drug, but could something like this have happened to Jennifer? She got paranoid and fearful and ran off? If the body nearby where her car was turns out to be her, I don't know how she would have died, though...

I guess I should look up MDMA. I have no idea what it is beyond a party drug. Next question... If you're partying and having a good time...why do you need a drug?? Yep, I am old. Maybe, I will ask my boys...just hope they don't know too much about it.

I can see this scenario. Someone she knows or a stranger is a passenger and suddenly pulls a gun or knife...

It [the body] was found in the same general area -- the southern embankment of State Road 826’s eastbound side, near 12th Avenue -- as the abandoned car of Miami Shores resident Jennifer Bennett earlier this month. The body hasn’t been identified yet.

:(
If it is Jennifer, then chances are she's been out in the heat and rain and bugs and wildlife for 3 weeks now and is unidentifiable. They'll probably have to do a dental match.

But I'd like to know how she died.
It could very well be as mpnola suggested. Possibly a suicide?

Either way it is tragic.

If the bag report is false, journalism is just as dead as the body? How can they just report based on looking at a few bags? Those bags might have been for trash or clippings from the brush. As for who and what, I still think it's Ms. Bennett. But the how is wide open. It's possible that she tripped and suffered a serious injury. With the sound of cars rushing past, nobody would hear her. I also think it could have been a suicide. And I also think it could have been a murder.

By the way, I keep a pair of flip flops in my car and put on my work shoes in the parking lot because my feet hurt when I drive with my shoes on.

I couldn't find the reports about " body parts found in bags" in the cited earlier reports.

Yes, what a HUGE error. I am sure the Miami Herald has "corrected" it w/out saying they "corrected" it. Even the twitter page of the original reporter has been taken down. Why not just admit the error or is it easier to pretend it was never said?

I'm confused. For example post #40 states Miami Herald is reporting about the body parts found in bags but when I went to that link dated June 28, there's nothing about body parts in bags in the actual report. News organizations can't/don't go back and change their previous reports? Or is that what happened? I thought maybe just the local wsvn got it wrong but I couldn't find anything about bagged body parts in that report either.

They should have issued retractions!

I think its possible that the body was in parts and the reporters saw the more than one bag and posted, but then LE asked them not to release that.
