Remains along Palmetto are those of St. Thomas Aquinas grad Jennifer Bennett

The body found on the side of Palmetto Expressway on Wednesday is Jennifer Bennett, a friend confirmed Friday.

[...]

Police have not confirmed that the woman is Bennett, but close family friend Roberta DiPietro confirmed to the Herald that police had identified her as Jennifer Bennett.

“They called it a tragic accident,” said DiPietro, whose daughter was close friends with Bennett from their days at St. Rose of Lima School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. “It’s a tragedy.”

Why are they (the PD) not yet releasing her name? Do they need to settle on a Cause of Death?

The original article gave out more clues than we thought. Especially about the drug use. If what her friend on this thread says is true, (and I don't see a reason to doubt it) they knew right from the beginning that the text to her male friend at 9:48p was about "scoring some Molly".

As relieved as I am that it appears she was not a victim of a violent encounter, it is still disturbingly tragic.

I am deeply sorry to all those who loved her, and to those of us on this thread who were concerned about her well being.

May she rest in peace.

I echo all of what you said. I am very sorry that this is how it ends for Ms. Bennett. She'd already been through so much in the past few years. I'm at least glad to know that there's no lunatic killer on the loose. I still have a lot of questions. Did she get hit by a passing vehicle? Did she fall over the guard rail and suffer an injury? Did she have a seizure or faint or pass out from drunkenness? I recognized from the original article that there was a lot of speculation about the role of drugs in her disappearance. But I never imagined that she'd be found so close to her car. I guess drugs can lead to some very unpredictable outcomes.

I am thinking they have not released anything to the media because they are waiting for toxicology reports- and for some reason that takes 6-8 weeks.

Even though her body was badly decomposed, the coroner suggests no foul play and no injur to the body such as a car hitting her.

Sadly enough I had another person I knew of from college that was out it Atlanta for New Years and ended up missing- he died of hypothermia and alcohol poisoning- they found him the next day -and getting to my point- fell down an embankment off of the highway.

I'm not sure how much more information we will find out- they are holding her funeral this coming Saturday and ask for donation to the Susan G Komen for abreast Cancer.

If I find out anymore I will post - like all of you- I was very into researching and finding everything out- So I assume answers help us with closure from our questions- because I too have thought of every possible angle.

Stay safe on the 4th

GRAPHIC... But no one smelled her along a busy expressway? Is so odd she was there the whole time.

O/T but there is an industrial area near my house I drive through daily to get to and from work. There are no residences, there is a mini storage and a lot where ppl pay to park their RV or boat and a freeway. There are a lot of transients in the creek there. I've been smelling something for about a month, it was stronger a few weeks ago, now it just wafts. I've been thinking of calling. So I guess I can see where ppl smelled it but thought someone else called.

No harm in making a call.

I agree - it is so wild that they didn't search a long the highway in the first place. But I guess being covered or having potentially fallen in the bushes they may not have found her. As far as the smell- maybe it's social norm to feel disgusted and not think twice about where it's coming from. As far as the people that worked in the furniture store (they said something about that in the news) not sure how they didn't smell that- but Miami is hot and potentially smells a little sulfury already.

I've never had MDMA or any drug for that matter - but I'm assuming she overdosed- so I put myself in her shoes- she takes one at the dealers place- it doesn't kick in as fast as she expected so she takes another and potentially a third (through research sometimes it can take hours for it to work if you've eaten, etc.) so then it kicks in- the first thing it does it makes you really hot and internally heats your organs (and it being Miami it's already hot)- so she puts her windows down in and effort to cool off - she then pulls cover as she's hallucinating/feeling sick and unable to drive- she's feeling super weird trying to walk and get to anywhere- she probably feels sick as hell- but doesn't want anyone to see her as she's on the interstate so remains close to a hidden side- then she either leans over to vomit or ends up seizing while falling into the bushes- or has a heart attack and falls.

I don't know- never done anything too crazy - I just keep thinking about it over and over.

It is very sad- I agree- but people make choices- and it's sad that in her depression she turned to drugs- but again, it was her choice. At some point we have to turn to being responsible people. Maybe that sounds harsh- I hate that she didn't ask for help. But then again social norms make it hard for people to feel like their emotions are completely normals so they turn to other things to "normalize" and cope.

I never used to give a second thought to bad smells before WS. I always thought it's a dead dog or deer, because I saw that a lot growing up. Now, every time I'm out doing whatever and I smell something 'dead', I say that could be a body. My husband has threatened to post something that would get me a time out, just so I cannot put everything on WS into my everyday situations that arise.

Over dosing on MDMA is extremely rare. I tried ecstasy a few times in my early 20's, the thing I remember most was being really, really thirsty.

It's likely she got heat stroke from the drug and died of hypothermia.

Here's a little snippet on the effects of MDMA:

One of the persistant problems with MDMA use is that of the hyperthermia (heat-stroke / over-heating). Several factors add to this effect, including MDMA's pharmacological effect of increasing body temperature, the strong physical stimulation experienced by most users, and the euphoria and comfort of the experience which can cause users to overlook their level of exertion. Many Ecstasy users have been told that they need to make sure they are drinking enough water to stay on the safe side of this problem, but as a result, some users encounter the somewhat less recognized problem of over-hydration which causes hyponatremia (literally "low salt") also called "water intoxication".

I have used it a few times too, one of the times it took a really long time to take effect, and the ppl I was with told me to wait, that happens sometimes. im thinking she took another dose when she should not have.

Well, this is a surprise. So then, what we know for sure:

1) Her car was discovered abandoned on the Palmetto Expressway.

2). The deceased body was discovered down the embankment from the car 3 weeks later

3). The body is Jennifer Bennett's

4). There is no known cause of death and the MPD are requesting tips.

What?!!

I looked for further articles but came up empty handed.

Why are they remaining so tight lipped about this?!

Geez.

We have a law here in Illinois that allows dealers to be prosecuted for drug-induced homicide. If there is something similar in FL maybe the "no cause of death" is a bluff to see if someone comes out of the woodwork.

True - I see both sides of the lobbying issue that landed Illinois with this law. Rich suburban parents were tired of dealers "getting away with murder" so they put their money and lobbying where their mouths were. Lots of cases already prosecuted and folks serving time ...

One example: http://chicago.suntimes.com/politics/the-watchdogs-heroin-deaths-tragedy-or-murder/

And an opposing view: http://www.drugpolicy.org/sites/default/files/Drug%20Policy%20Alliance_Fact%20Sheet_Drug-Induced%20Homicide.pdf

some years ago, a young girl was doing drugs w a guy and she OD'd. they didn't seek any help and discarded her in a field and she wasn't found for months. Lemoore, ca area. THAT guy was charged and rightfully so.

IMO when someone scores some dope (or whatever drug of choice) departs, and then OD's later, I think its personal choice. the dealer is guilty of sales, but not murder or manslaughter. MOO :)

Definitely possible.

Back when it was still called Ecstasy people would take stacks of them. 2, 3 or even 4 at a time. I remember being totally shocked when I heard that but it made sense like alcohol or any other drug, long term usage develops a tolerance.

I knew people that would take one pill orally then crush and snort more through the night to keep "rolling".

One thing I forgot to mention in my previous post was that Ecstasy and Molly aren't pure MDMA so you have to trust what you're buying. I'm wondering if she got a bad batch and had negative reaction to it.

The last time I took Ecstasy it was a totally different and not fun experience. I felt like something was off with the pill I had taken. I never took another one after that.

So we know that she has done ecstasy in the past but not that she was doing it that night? Correct?
