Broward Circuit Judge John J. Murphy sentenced Resiles on Friday to life in prison, a ruling that was mandated by law once prosecutors announced last month they would no longer seek the death penalty.

After the murder sentencing, Resiles pleaded guilty to dozens of criminal counts stemming from his 2016 escape from a courtroom and a later conspiracy to concoct an alibi putting him in Georgia at the time of the Su murder. Murphy sentenced him to 15 years in prison for those crimes, with the sentences to run concurrently.
