JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The search for a missing father of two in Jacksonville has brought friends and family all the way from Ireland.

John McNamee was last seen May 25, and his truck was found near the tree line behind the Quality Inn Airport Hotel on Airport Road.

When the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was alerted to McNamee’s disappearance on May 25, they sent bloodhounds and the Dive Team to the area. Nothing was found.

McNamee had a flight booked that left Jacksonville on May 30, but he wasn’t on it.

McNamee's sister called the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office from Ireland and told dispatchers that her brother "is going through a divorce and has not been heard from since May 25, 2022."

His family also contacted Irish newspapers, putting out a plea for help finding McNamee.

John had two kids which he loved dearly and it’s totally out of John’s character to do anything like this," John Mcnamee, an uncle who came from Ireland, said.

Officers say a truck registered to Mcnamee has been sitting behind the Quality Inn since May26th. The truck had not been reported stolen, and has no evidence of foul play in the truck, according to police.

McNamee was not registered as staying in the hotel or any of 18 hotels in the area that police checked.

Missing for quite a while already. What could have happened?

Did he live in the area? It seems odd that his truck was found at a hotel.

ETA: How far was his house to the hotel?

A missing persons report shows McNamee's wife had filed two previous reports -- she told JSO that she had not heard from her husband in several days and she knew he had left his truck behind.

She said they were going through a divorce and she was trying to serve McNamee with an injunction. She thought the truck was hidden behind the hotel because McNamee was hiding, not wanting to receive the injunction.

“None of it makes sense. How does someone just disappear without a trace, you know?" Jennifer McNamee, John's wife, said.

She said McNamee did not seem suicidal and did not own any weapons as far as she knew.

Someone had come into her home recently through a side window, but she assumed it was McNamee and therefore didn't call the police.

That incident occurred on May 26, the day after McNamee's sister said she last heard from him.

The article does not give details about his wife's "two previous reports". I wonder if they were living apart and for how long? Where was he staying?

Maybe he quit his job instead of "losing" it? He had a ticket to fly to Ireland on May 30 but didn't show up.

Is he a U.S. citizen? Where is his passport?

Did he leave his phone in his truck? Is there video of him leaving his vehicle? Maybe someone picked him up?

Not seeing any details on the Facebook page, just general appeals.

In a public social media post, McNamee’s wife Jennifer describes her husband as a 47-year-old white male who is 5’5 and 145 lbs with green eyes, salt and pepper hair, and having an Irish accent.

“The victim was reported missing by his family and efforts to locate him have been unsuccessful,” the post, which is being widely shared, said. “We are attempting to locate him to ascertain his safety.”

First Coast News reports that Jennifer told the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office that she had not heard from John in several days and she knew he had left his truck behind. The two are going through a divorce and Jennifer was trying to serve John with an injunction; she thought the truck was hidden behind the hotel because McNamee was hiding, not wanting to receive the injunction.

OCT 2021 - Divorce papers were filed by JM's wife. What kind of injunction was filed recently that his wife says he might be trying to avoid service of? Is there anything in the public record re: ongoing divorce proceedings shared above that might motivate him to flee? (Would love a WS lawyer to weigh in here.)

MAY 25 - Returned keys to employer. Did JM quit his job voluntarily? Was he laid off? Was he fired? What might be impact of this event on someone approx eight months into divorce proceedings with minor children?

MAY 30 - Who knew about his plans to fly to Ireland on May 30? When did he purchase the ticket? Was it roundtrip or one way? We're his family in Ireland anticipating his visit?

JUNE 13 - Search led by family from Ireland begins at the Quality Inn where his vehicle was left. Is there any security video showing him at that location?

When did he last see his children & where?

When did he move out of the family home? Where was he living & are any of his belongings still there?

Has he ever disappeared before? If so, for how long?

Other transportation or vehicles? Any evidence of taking a ride share? Does he have a motorcycle or other vehicle?

Has his banking, credit card & phone activity been traced? If so, what date did it go dark (if it has)?

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — He's been missing for more than three weeks with very few leads.

The family of John McNamee, a Jacksonville man and father of two young children, is still asking for the public's help to find him.

There are new details in this case. John McNamee's wife Jennifer told First Coast News that police used a helicopter and cadaver dogs to search the woods behind the Quality Inn where McNamee's vehicle was found, however, they did not find anything in those woods.

Not a lawyer, but have BA in Legal Studies. There has been no motion filed for an injunction in this case, unless it was just done and not records yet. The only notice he would be receiving from this case may be a notice of a hearing date If one was set. (Those are generally mailed, not served.) The document is currently locked so I am unable to confirm.

I searched the records in Duval and there are no other open cases involving him at the moment. That is not to say it hasn’t been filed in a different county or State.

Thanks for looking. I saw in this link on the family's Facebook search page, they have cadaver dogs involved in the search.

Information is being held close despite asking for the public's help.

I do fear based on two big stressors he was dealing with: job loss & pending divorce that he may have taken his life.

I certainly hope that is not the case. What a tragedy for his young daughters & all who love JM if he does not come home alive.

It does appear they have walked back his having bought a ticket to fly to Ireland on June 30, also.

Yeah and I don't know how to take that. Wonder who said that he was flying back in the first place? MOO JMO my thoughts only - I hope there's no jealous third party (of any kind) in the mix here.

"A friend of McNamee who lives in Florida tells First Coast News that detectives told her that no flight was booked using McNamee's name before or after his disappearance".

"A friend of McNamee who lives in Florida tells First Coast News that detectives told her that no flight was booked using McNamee's name before or after his disappearance".

Any time the limited info released early changes significantly or is walked back, credibility is lost unless a reasonable explanation is given.

I find it odd that detectives would be sharing details with non-family although she may have gotten the info 2nd hand from a family member who had spoken with detectives. His uncle said it very casually in the video, which I found odd.

I'm not sure now the public can really help beyond what has been done searching the woods near where he left his truck.

The Facebook search page doesn't offer much to go on, despite pleaing for sightings, like did he frequent a gym? Where was he living? Did he have any favorite bars or hangouts?

Without more clues to help, we just have to wait for the family or LE to provide updates.

Hopefully they will get some positive news but I'm not optimistic. I wonder how acrimonious the divorce had gotten & what he had told his family in Ireland about it.

Some updates & clarifications:

John is a happy go lucky type of person, a hard working family man and this is totally out of character for him. He adores his two girls and being gone from them is not something John would do.

Media have reported he lost his job but he actually had been made redundant and this was not a surprise to him, he was aware of it for several weeks.

John was seen at a gas station on Pecan Park Road at approx 2.30-3.00pm [May 25]

The last known sighting of John was at a gas station mentioned above at Pecan park road.

On the morning of Thursday, May 26th John's pickup truck was located in woodland adjacent to the car park at the back of the Quality Inn Airport Road Jacksonville
Make: Ford
Model: F150
Color: Grey
License plate: NNG E44

The hotel staff did a walk about of the car park on the evening of Wednesday May 25 at 8pm.
John’s pick up truck was not there at that time, meaning sometime between the hours of Wednesday May 25 at 8pm and Thursday May 26 at 11am John’s pick up truck was left at the woodland adjacent to the hotel car park.

Contrary to some media reports John did NOT have any flight booked in his name for either before or after he disappeared.

There is no CCTV in the car park at the Quality Inn Hotel where John’s car was found.

We do not know John’s movements after the last sighting at Pecan Park Road on Wednesday May 25 between 2.30-3.00pm

Thinking through this,
A man who had just recently departed a long-term job at a roofing company 11 minutes by car from his apartment. Under personal stress. I am not implying that all Irish are bar goers by any means - though my favorite ones are (grin) - if I were friends with this guy or loved this guy and lived in Jax, I’d start with the operating assumption that after boiling hot days spent on roofs in Florida, where a roofer’s workday ends with dropping the truck back off at the company lot, he was likely inclined to have a regular bar between work and home. Somewhere where he could get a bartender smile and some AC and small talk with familiar buddies, who might have a theory or two about where he might go.
Townsend to his apartment by car is one of two ways,

Out of parking lot onto Atlantic Blvd
L onto Kernan
R onto Beach.

OR

Out of parking lot onto San Pedro
R onto Beach.

Somewhere on that route he had a place. One place, not exactly what I’m describing but worth a visit, is Haze Vape and Smoke Shop on Beach. Posters. Do you recognize this guy?
Maybe Miller’s Ale House. Corner of Hodges and Beach. But what I’m really looking for on those routes is more of a dive bar. You know, mismatched front door, beer neon in small window.

I’d drive that a few times and look for a place like that. Unless his ex says he doesn’t drink. Unless that’s the case, people in this place knew him and his troubles and where he tended to like to retreat.

He went somewhere between 5/25 8 PM and 5/26 11 AM. Surprised that his phone hasn’t revealed where to authorities via ping. Perhaps it has. If it didn’t, and hasn’t, the best guesses are going to come from roofing coworkers or people at ”his place.” Find his place.
