[h=3]Details of Disappearance[/h] Jonathan was last seen during a family gathering at Jacksonville Beach in Florida on June 11, 1968. He has never been heard from again. Although the police believed the child drowned, witnesses saw him follow his father to a snack bar and his mother believes he was abducted by a man and a woman standing outside the establishment.

In the late 1980s, a man named David Bonnabel claimed he might be Jonathan. Bonnabel said he'd been kidnapped as a young child and was raised in isolation by a woman in rural Louisiana. He claimed to have memories of his childhood that matched the details of Jonathan's life.

DNA testing proved he wasn't Jonathan, however, and authorities determined Bonnabel was a con artist who made up the kidnap story. He was actually a Mexican national who had come to the United States illegally and wanted to find an American family to adopt him so he could become a U.S. citizen.

Jonathan's family believes Jonathan was kidnapped and is still alive. Little information is available in his case.

Tallahassee Police Department gets new scent dog to help find missing people
[...]

The story of the pup's name goes back 52 years. He's named in honor of a 3-year-old boy who went missing off of Jacksonville Beach in 1968.

Jonathan Hagans' family now lives in Tallahassee and hopes the bloodhound can help others in the situation they once faced.

"We have very little information on that case," Paul Coley, CEO of Scent Evidence K-9 said.

[...]

"They've opened up a cold case with the help of the Jacksonville Police Department in trying to find any and all evidence possible about my brother," JH said.

[...]

"It's a really great honor to have something that can be so impactful right here in my community, and to be named after my brother and done in his honor really means a lot to the family," he said.

Bumping for Jonathan.
I'm not finding any online MSM updates since March 2020. I'll check again in a few months.

That is very interesting. Someone should send an email to look further into this, just in case, IMO.
I'm from Spain... I don't think I am the most appropriate person to send U.S. authorities an e-mail.

I don't have a U.S. address to start a NamUs account, either.
My first thought is that the man probably is not a kidnapping victim, though. But you never know.

Police were called, lifeguards dispatched to the area and even the Navy sent a helicopter to search - but there was no trace of Jon Jon.

Searches of the water continued for five days, but no body was ever recovered. Though his parents were told Jon Jon likely had drowned, Joel Hagans says his parents didn't believe that was the case.

"There was not one person that said they saw him going toward the water, but there were several people that said they saw him going back toward the snack shack," Joel Hagans said, Jon Jon's younger brother.

The family believed he was kidnapped.

Apologies — That was from the same date you previously linked. I will delete. I saw it on a Jacksonville news site today and had to look up the case.
