I'm fairly confident the two calls from Florida to Keith's mom were made by him. Keith was known to be living in Florida at the time. I can't see the reason for anyone else to call his mom and not speak. The second call was traced to Orange County Jail in Orlando. While there was no one there under that name, he could've been using an alias. It was much easier in the '70s to use a fake identity. Keith was already in trouble with the law before he disappeared, and what with the call from jail, he may have entered into a life of crime.

It's difficult to know why Keith didn't connect with his family. We don't know the ins and outs of his relationships. If he was living dangerously, he could have met with a sticky end, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he was still alive.
