HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. — Highlands County deputies are asking for the public's help to find a 23-year-old woman who has been missing for several days.

Khadijah Anderson told her mother on Monday she would be headed to Lakeland the next day to visit relatives, but she never arrived.

On Wednesday, Anderson's vehicle was found abandoned by an outlet mall in Indian River County. The vehicle was open and the keys were inside.

She is 5-foot-5, 110 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Several outlet malls in Indian River County near Vero Beach. This is the opposite direction from Lakeland.

I took the google map that @GuyfromCanada linked, and added in the nearest outlet mall in Indian River County (from @KatzEye) as a midpoint from Avon Park to Lakeland:

Any outlet mall in Indian River County would be way off Khadijah's route from Avon Park to Lakeland.

Is there CCTV in the mall parking lot? When did the car arrive there and was Khadijah driving it?

Another thought: lets assume that Khadijah has suddenly changed her plans and decided to go to a mall instead of visiting her family in Lakeland. Why would she go to an Indian River County mall instead of her local mall? There are no really large cities in the county as the most populated city is Sebastian with a population of about 25 000. The second most populated city is Vero Beach with about 17 000. Avon Park has a population of about 11 000. The distance to those cities from Avon Park is at least good 90 miles according to Google Maps. Seems quite a long way to drive to visit a mall. Plus, Lakeland with a population of 100 000+ is much closer.

Hope she didn't get carjacked somewhere. MOO.

I wonder if the relatives confirmed that they were expecting her? It is odd that the car was found south of Avon and she should have been heading an hour north. I feel like something happened to her before she got too far from home - which I presume is Avon.

If she wanted to stop at the Outlets, there’s two big Outlets a few miles out of Lakeland toward Orlando. That’s the Outlets she would have went to. VC, Etc.

That outlet mall on SR60 is relatively new, as in the last 10 years. (my kids Gma lives nearby) The growth to that interchange has been explosive, new stores, restaurants, homes, etc. No doubt there are many, many cameras. Prior to the growth there, the big outlet mall was south in Ft. Pierce. When it first opened, it was nice but it didn't take long for it to become a high crime area. I don't know that it lasted 10 years and all the stores closed up, moved north to SR60. The tax base between the two areas is quite different. Now that Disney has their resort nearby, businesses go where the money is.

Is it just me or is this case just too quiet? She hasn't been seen since Monday? That was 6 days ago. I don't see relevant comments on social media pages. No family sounding the alarm? Seems odd to me.

I agree payroll but I feel like I see that a lot. Some cases create a constant buzz while others fade away so quickly. In general, I tend to think the activity feeds off the level of attention being brought by the immediate family. I also sometimes fall into the trap of thinking that a quiet case means it’s a runaway case though that doesn’t seem to fit the facts here with the car found with the keys inside.
