Sheriff: Man in skull mask killed Florida woman in front of kids during Halloween home invasion

Authorities say a woman died after a man wearing a skull mask broke into a home and shot her in front of two children in the hours after Halloween.

”Sheriff Chris Nocco said a woman sleeping on the couch was awoken by a knock at the door. The man kicked in the door, entered the home and pointed the gun at the woman. Then he went to a bedroom, where a woman and two young children were sleeping, and turned a light on.

The woman woke up and told the man “don’t shoot me.” Nocco said he fired a round, which struck the woman. After she fell to the floor, he shot her again, according to the sheriff.”

The shooting occured shortly after midnight on November 1, 2022—apologies for the error in the title.

The home was on Menifee Court in New Port Richey, and it appears that street is part of an affordable housing/public housing complex—not sure if the area is generally considered safe or not, but how traumatic for the two children who woke up from sleeping to have their mother shot as she lay in bed with them!

Deputies seek shooter in deadly New Port Richey home invasion

Investigators do not believe the home invasion was a random act because it appears the man knew the layout of the home and who his intended victim was, Nocco said.

“It seemed like he knew exactly who he was going for,” Nocco said.

Deputies said the man has a heavy build and is about 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing dark clothing and a skull-type mask.
