FL - Mark Schwab facing execution for the '91 murder of Junny Rios-Martinez

Taking the stance of how would his mother feel is emotion talking, just as taking the stance of how does this victims family feel, is also emotion talking.

Emotion is not bad and both sides have every right to their various feelings.

Justice should not be based on emotion. Thats why it is called for in these cases.

It is actually very simple when you clear out the emotion.

You take a life? You forfeit your own.

If your child grew up to kill someone, would you stop loving them and want to see them die a painful death with someone smiling and eating popcorn in the front row? I hope for your child's sake, there isn't anything they could do to stop your love for them. The people who want to save them from the DP are the people who have always loved them for who ELSE they always were, and always will be.

I hate this guy as much as you do. I don't see why we had to spend a blue million dollars on him, when he could have been given a life sentence without parole and saved us a bunch of money.... and saved his mother from having HER son murdered as well.

If it's all about the money, he should have life without parole. If it's all about revenge, then I can't understand.

If my child grew up to sodomize, torture and kill someone YES you bet your buns I would stop loving them.
Truth be told people who do that to someone are not raised by decent loving parents.

Adios, child molester is all I can say, and I agree with Amraan - if my kid did something this horrible to a child, yes...I would turn my back on them and question what or how I may have affected how he turned out. Have there ever been studies as to the family dynamics of some of these people? Would love to read them if they are out there.

Jeffrey Dahmer?

By all accounts, his home life was normal. He refused to acknowledge his mental illnesses until it was too late.

Admittedly, many times the parents and/or home environment do play a part in these cases. But not always.

I can;t recall where I read it ... but a long time ago I did read that virtually all of them were victims themselves or raised in abusive non-stable homes.
Of course many do not admit to any abuse..

Its true ... Sparky was retired after an inmate had a less then quick death.
If I recall correctly he did not die immediately and then caught on fire.

Although there is a certain....poetic justice....in this kind of thing happening, don't forget that there are real, innocent people (prison employees) who do have to clean up the aftermath of these mishaps. Literally. I'm sure they are very thankful that the electric chair was retired!

A murderer harms more than the victim. Through his selfish, sick acts, he has ruined many, many lives, to include his own and his victim's. He should have been put to death immediately, IMO. Of course, his own mother suffers every day. I don't fault her because she probably did the best that she could to raise him. However, if this case doesn't scream "death penalty," I don't know what case does.

I believe that if you take anyone's life (especially the life of an innocent child), you should be put to death...immediately...not years and years later. Death is too good for this guy, but at least for a few minutes he will experience the fear that this young boy experienced. For that, I am grateful.

There's nothing my child could do that could ever cause me to stop loving him. Nothing. Ever.

I agree that many who commit terrible crimes have a history of caretaker abuse and neglect, but by no means can we say that all who do terrible things were not raised by loving decent parents.

What about the killers who murder their parents and families? We see cases like that routinely and we do not blame the parents - we usuallu say, "OMG - those parents gave that child everything and this is what he/she did!"

If given the opportunity, could you stand actually face to face with Junny's Mother and repeat your above words?

Why would Glitch's words offend Junny's Mother? Does Junny's mother want her son's murderer to be killed?

I think that it is safe to say that she does not oppose the penalty dealt to the killer of her child.

I didn't ask GW if she would offend the mother.......only if she could repeat the same words if she was one on one looking into the eyes of a woman who had a son that was bratally raped and murdered.

"Schwab raped and killed Junny in April 1991, about a month after he was released early from a prison sentence he got for raping a 13-year-old boy, who was from Cocoa, a small town on the Atlantic coast of Florida.

Schwab got close to the boy and his family by posing as a reporter who promised to help the boy with his dream of becoming a professional surfer. On the day of the rape and murder, Schwab called the boy's school posing as his father, then picked him up there.

The case prompted Florida's Junny Rios-Martinez Act of 1992, which prohibits sex offenders from early release from prison or getting credit for good behavior." :woohoo:

I do not know Junny's mother's feelings on the matter, but I don't think it's safe to assume she would be in favor of more killing. I would be further crushed if more killing followed the killing of my child.

I believe I could repeat GW's words to Junny's mother. Given proper context and relationship, they do not seem hurtful or something that could not be said, so I guess I am trying to figure out where you're coming from with your question.

Junny's parents have a myspace account, someone posted it earlier.
The parents are very glad this monster who rapes and murders children is going to be put to death for his actions.

RiverRat, there will always be those who have more sympathy with the vile animals who rape and murder our children than the victims themselves.
It's very sad to see but those with that mentality are the reason why this man was allowed to be released back into society only to rape, torture and murder a child AGAIN.

They should stand before this childs mother and explain that to her and explain the pity they feel for this monster.

I've been looking around and I can't find a time of execution. Usually they will say at 12:01AM or something like that. Does anybody know what time on July 1 this is suppose to happen?

I don't know Junny's mother.

However, I do know someone whose sister was brutally killed for insurance money. The killers are in prison facing lethal injection and doing everything they can to avoid it. Supporters of these killers went to the surviving sister's house during the Christmas season, talked their way into her house, sat down with her and tried to convince her to support leniency for her sister's killers. This forced additional pain on her, if that counts. She is very clear that she would like to see them executed.

She is a poster here so I'll see if she will speak for herself.

Oh, Adnoid - that's awful and invasive and they should be ashamed of themselves! If she is up for it and it is not too painful to discuss, I would love to know more. Were they attorneys or an organized anti-DP group? Is what they did a typical thing? I hope she threw them out as soon as she found out what they were up to.

As I posted earlier, with proper context and relationship, I believe I could speak GW's post to Junny's mother. But a key component of that is proper relationship and context - stranger showing up on your doorstep is rarely that.

Hey, if he is afraid of dying by lethal injection then give him the electric chair. It is the other option.
Great idea ~ fire up (literally) Old Sparky!!  I'm sorry but I have no sympathy whatsoever for this monster.
