In this instance, I don't think mental health has anything to do with it. I hope we learn this guys story, where he's lived in America, why is he a citizen and his parents aren't, did he go to college, where are his parents now, will they be deported if they are living in America? There are so many questions but the biggest one is how did the FBI investigate and interview him and yet he was able to do this? That's the system that failed our citizens. Are we tap dancing around these radicals when we should be cracking down on them?

Sorry for all of the questions!

It was Commissioner Patty Sheehan. She asked for vigils not to be held tonight because they didn't have the resources (OPD) to ensure everyone would be safe. She said the crime scene hadn't even been released. So to please wait until they had the available resources. She said some officers have been up 24 hrs.

She called the off duty officer a hero and while he was trying to protect the ones inside he was also calling for backup.

Paraphrasing all the above.

I heard her on TV. WFTV

That was what I was trying to share - it made much sense to me--- they have to be exhausted, they have walked through 50 dead people, they have had to see 50 others hurt

give em a break, I have just never heard someone do that

I thought it was authentic, made sense, just give them 24 hours . They would need to reallocate if a huge crowd came out

they need to debrief ---they saw horror ugh

In Paris I saw one picture of the theatre- in that second when it first came up it was awful, so much blood, smeared all over the place - it was intense

California- gay parade LA:

CNN 5 gallon bucket of chemicals in his car , huge amount of bad things in his car , came from Indiana --he was caught

Santa Monica found possible explosives as well as a cache of weapons and ammunition Sunday in the car of a man who told them he planned to look for a friend at the L.A. Pride festival in West Hollywood, a law enforcement source said.

Well no, and you shouldn't. It's real people that suffer, peoples fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, loved ones. They should never be forgotten. But tehcloser has a point. The world is just wrong, life is beautiful but I feel like the world we live in more ugly at times, a pressure pot that keeps exploding. Something is fundamentally wrong in the way we live, something very negative that seems to be building, worldwide. Be it violence, hatred, jealousy, envy, natural disasters. It all costs too many lives and we should be able to do something about it, but we don't. We move on and carry on living our lives, until the next time. I'm not really sure we can do anything about it, it's too big. And until we stop as a race, the human race, to put so much importance on money and power we never will. 'Them and Us' It's responsible for so much pain :(

Sorry that was a bit too deep. Need kittens stat

Feel and love every word you wrote...I've always felt like I was "too sensitive" for this world...days like today are tough. My cat-boys have been forced to provide much comfort today <3

(hugs & prayers to you  )

I was late learning of mass shooting. Has it been confirmed this was a ISIS related attack? I am reading some articles which are calling it a hate crime, targeting the gay community (obviously) but other news outlets report a connection with ISIS. Either way, it is terrorism, tragic beyond belief. My heart is broken for the victims, their loved ones, the community and our nation.
TIA for clarification.

No. It's just my opinion. As in "JMO" that I put on the end of my post.

  • #726
I think there is more to this than a generalized "hate".
This is about the war being committed by Isis terrorists.

Moo

ENOUGH.

You've been permitted to make your point. Move on. And I am not generalizing when I say that.

Yes, ISIS has claimed responsibility.

Of course they have, even though he was a lone wolf type who acted for his own pathetic reasons. IMO this is home grown terrorism, a hate crime, and a crazed gunman all rolled all into one. I think these losers try and make themselves seem larger than life in various ways and by saying it was an ISIS attack he was doing just that.

Some of the victims are still in the building. I think any vigils should happen after all of the victims families have been notified and LE has had time to do their onsite investigation.

In honor and remembrance of the victims of the terrorist act in Orlando, I've declared flags at half-staff from now until sunset, June 16.

Personally, I wish they wouldn't put ANY of the "officials" on air. They do nothing except babble on about nothing.

Police & FBI only.

Especially during an election year, it's the worst!

The shooter called 911 at the start of the attack and pledged his allegiance to ISIS. Guess he wanted to make sure everyone knew it was ISIS related just in case some wanted to claim otherwise.

Agree. Especially since dad is playing the gay hate card but not the isis card.

Dad knows what this means. The entire family will now be interrogated just like the boston bombers families. Jmo.

I live here. I used to work just blocks from where the shooting took place. The Dunkin Donuts you see next to Pulse is where I had lunch almost every day. I worked two blocks from the hospital and next door to the me office. I'm not really sure how I'm feeling right now. I went to Facebook as soon as I saw the news to check on my gay friends from Disney. One had planned on going to Pulse last night but was tired so he stayed home. All my friends that frequent the club are safe. That does not mean it doesn't affect me. My friends lost friends in this attack. My heart breaks for their pain. Right now I am feeling a bit numb. I'm so tired of Radical Islamists being called anything but that term. I'm tired of the violence. I'm ready to find a cave somewhere and load it up with food and some guns and ammo and just go hide away from everybody. I guess I need time to actually figure out what I think.

I can't believe 50 people have died it's just horrific. I wish there was a way to get through to these individuals that we are all human beings no matter what religion, sexual orientation, race, age etc we are and we should not be murdering each other. Sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Please let the injured survive. Thank you for all your posts and new updates. The terrible horrendous events over the last eight months have been absolutely tragic.

May the 50 victims Rest In Peace.

What you are, IMO, is immaterial to Islamic terrorists. If you appear to be an infidel (westerner), you should be killed.

OH, was he a fatality?

Good question. From this article, I would say he is a fatality. Guess we won't know definitely until all the names are released.

"Mina Justice was outside the club trying to contact her 30-year-old son Eddie, who texted her when the shooting happened and asked her to call police. He told her he ran into a bathroom with other club patrons to hide. He then texted her: ‘‘He’s coming.’’

‘‘The next text said: ‘He has us, and he’s in here with us,' ’’ she said. ‘‘That was the last conversation.’’

Westboro Baptist hates gays. Lots of conservative religions can be added to that list.

That's true the WBC (cult) does hate gays. Imo, they hate everyone. Gays, military, cops. However; they haven't ever killed anyone. They are just slime-balls who show up at funerals holding up signs and there is usually only a few of them. No true Christian I know even thinks the WBC are Christians and instead believe they are a hate filled cult. As far as I can remember conservative church group members don't go around murdering gays either in mass shootings. The Quran not only says homosexuals are to be killed but the people who do so are promised to be rewarded like when they murder infidels.

Very few of these mass shooters have done the shootings because of their religious faith. I would say the ones who have shot up abortion clinics did it because of their extreme fanatical religious views and they may have been Christians. Eric Rudolph wounded one woman at an abortion clinic, and killed another woman in Atlanta who lived about 5 miles from where I live. There was another one in CO I believe last year who shot and killed people outside of an abortion clinic. Most mass murderers are anti-government-racists-or had serious mental issues of some sort. Many of them lived a coddled lifestyle before becoming mass murderers. I don't think there have been very many Christians in the last few decades who mass murdered people when their sole motive was to do with their faith.

I think what is different about a radical Muslim Islamist is they outwardly call for all gays to be murdered. On Heavy.com right now there is an article on there where ISIS stoned two young gay men to death with hundreds of large rocks.:(

That is why I have never understood why the gay communities in mass doesn't ever seem to go to all of the Muslim bakeries we have here in our country asking them to make a wedding cake for them. They absolutely would refuse but at least it would shine a light on how many Muslims here really feel about gays. They could also sue them too just as easy as Christians to make a statement.. Intolerance and discrimination isn't right no matter who is behind it Yet, the only time I have even seen a reporter report on the problem is when one reporter went undercover pretending to be a gay man who was getting married. Everyone of the Muslim bakeries refused to even talk with the man about making the cake much less actually consider making one for them.

When Muslim terrorists strike whether it is here or elsewhere they always make sure everyone knows they did it because of their Islamic faith. It seems they do not want anyone to guess the motive. They will either tell someone beforehand or they will makes claims of support to ISIS Islamic terrorists who is the worst hate cult group in the world filled with thousands of sociopaths, imo.

I agree, his religious stuff may have had some influence on how he feels / thinks about homosexuality, but I think ISIS stuff is second to pure homophobia(the driving up to Orlando to a popular gay bar IMO is telling- if he wanted to be a terrorist there are closer big places - why did he drive and go to PUlse- has to mean somehting IMO) as motivator.

Second I think mental health will come in picture mooo

3 hours ago - ISIS Claims Responsibility for Mass Casualty Attack at Gay Nightclub Pulse in Orlando

The Islamic State group, the infamous terror organization which has taken over large swathes of Iraq and Syria and orchestrated mass-casualty attacks against civilians in Paris and Brussels, Belgium, claimed responsibility for a massacre at gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando, Florida on Sunday.

Multiple sources reported ISIS claimed credit for the gun rampage, which killed at least 50 people and wounded more than 50 others...

only mo only mo

I do think we need to just remain aware, that as far as I understand, there was not a steady stream of gunfire , for hours, indicated the shooter was shooting for a long time.

moo I know this is uncomfortable, and certainly not intential, but moo we are going to find that there were deaths by the good guys on the scene.

I have posted the video flying MSM - video is just what it is , can not be disputed ,there sadly, is no way 17 bullets flying randomly about cannot result in further deaths.

Earlier far more gun aware posters explained to me that bullets would go through walls from far away....................

My take here, is that the notion that he had a "device" was what made it what it turned out to be

. There was not as far as I know much shooting going on after the intial event until hours later LE shot a barrage off, blindly

NO judgement, they had to end it . But I think we might be surprised at the numbers moo

Its a physics thing imo............................

mooo

I understand that there were other factors but obviously there were people in that bathroom who were captive. It's horrible all the way around but I can see how one shooter could do this in a dark, crowded, loud, nightclub, w/an automatic weapon, especially one he is comfortable with. There would be mass confusion once folks realized what was going on. I don't think LE would just fire at folks running for their lives, who did make it out of the club either. I could be wrong, but I'd hope not. He could have shot 120 people in no time flat when he entered that building. The magazines for those guns are sizable and can be jury-rigged to be even larger. Some people who were injured, probably died during the three hour stand-off, who could possibly have been saved if it had ended sooner. jmo I just took issue w/op talking as if they could have just strolled out of there. He had them like shooting fish in a barrel.

clearly this is both a hate crime and an act of terror.

but establishing if there was contact and a direct link between this guy and an organized radical group will be important. the fact that ISIS has claimed responsibility does not end this inquiry.

there is a massive benefit to them saying they were behind this massacre on US soil, they have suffered some big defeats recently, and al qaeda just pledged their loyalty to the taliban.

Hi one two and three !

He did "bargain" with LE during the event did not catch what he wanted

I am having trouble passing this on to you all - first time I have gone to CNN today-- most of there cr$p turns out to be so wrong!!

They are saying ex wife says he did not spew a lot ISIS stuff but had lots of issues with homosexuality

But you all know this about CNN -- so I guess its ok!!
