I'm interested to see how far in advance this was planned. That will be telling, imo, about how much of a lone wolf he was vs. a verified ISIS member.

Watching the news coverage yesterday there were several mentions on an ISIS site(s) last Wednesday mentioning a pending attack in Florida. I cannot remember who said it or what organization/LE agency they were affiliated with.

THE father of the gunman in the Orlando nightclub massacre has posted a bizarre series of videos on social media declaring himself leader of Afghanistan and said God will punish those involved in homosexuality.

Omar Mateen’s father Seddique describes himself as a “politician” on a page called Provisional Government of Afghanistan — Seddique Mateen.

He appears in several videos wearing army fatigues in front of the Afghan flag. In a post after the deadly shooting which is the worst in US history, he says the family is shocked by the “tragic” news.

“I am deeply saddened and announce this to the people of America,” he said according to Washington Post reports while noting the shooting took place during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.

But he also warned: “God himself will punish those involved in homosexuality.”

“This, is not for the servants” of God.

Is the Mateen father in the US on some sort of visa? He's also in Florida right?

Imo, in the FL Pulse nightclub massacre we are witnessing a transition of transparency by law enforcement when releasing information to the public via press conferences. This is an major improvement, imo. Awareness and communication is the key to prevent terrorist attacks in the future..

I 100% agree with this. And I also believe there are many who can distinguish between negative views of ISIS versus negative views of Islam as a whole.

It breaks my heart to think there are people in this world who believe stoning someone to death or throwing them off a building for being gay is acceptable.

wfgodot, during the presser this morning, it was reported as 49 casualties. The shooter; OM, is not included in the casualty count...
I'm confident that this number will likely increase over time due to the many critical victims.

The Pulse shooting happened only a few miles from the Plaza Live theater, where Grimmie was killed.

Agent Ronald Hopper said the agency was aware of Mateen. The FBI interviewed him in 2013 and 2014 after he expressed sympathy for a suicide bomber, Hopper said.

In the past two weeks, Mateen legally purchased a Glock pistol and a long gun, ATF Assistant Special Agent in Charge Trevor Velinor told reporters.
It’s not known if those weapons were used in the attack.

One person hiding in the bathroom covered herself with bodies to protect herself. Some entertainers hid in a dressing room when the shooting started and escaped the building by crawling out when police removed the air conditioning unit.

Yeah, he was. Because of that 2nd amendment thingy we have; "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed..." and the fact that any/all amendments to change the purchasing criteria have been successfully and regularly blocked by Congress - a Congress beholden to the all-powerful NRA. An organization that has convinced [too] many that ANY changes would constitute the loss of their firearms. As it stands now, so long as someone does not have a felony record or documented mental illness, they are free to purchase guns. You can thank the NRA/pro-gun activists for that. MO~

We need to ban airline tickets and box cutters too.

We don't blame the airplanes for 9-11. Taking away guns will not stop violence. Hatred always finds a way. Actually using planes as bombs was very effective, wasn't it? The Shoe Bomber had no gun. The Boston Marathon bombers caused havoc with pressure cookers. Suicide vests are doing the job to kill overseas...no guns. Biological weapons ...and, one day, as Iran is now on the nuclear path...nuclear weapons ...that is coming too. There's a commonality here, but it is not guns.

All the guns can be confiscated tomorrow...and it won't stop zealotry, hate or terrorism. It will just change the methodology. It's a side discussion, one people can respectfully have, but it's only a side issue.

ISIS propaganda states "use your F150" to kill infidels if that is the weapon to which you have access. People who believe this way simply want us dead by any means. They may choose this group or that group as the target of the moment, but make no mistake, they want to kill any and all of us, however they can. JMHO.
