Air Force Two landed a few minutes ago, and Air Force One has just now landed in Orlando.

So he wanted to belong somewhere and the homosexual community rejected him? I'd say if you dig into most terrorists you'd find that 'belonging' or lack thereof to be a motivation for many of them.

He scouted Disney World. He branded the attacks himself. Do not understand the desire to back away from the terrorist's own words that he was indeed a terrorist..

“America and Russia stop bombing the Islamic state..I pledge my alliance to [Islamic State leader] abu bakr al Baghdadi ..may Allah accept me,” Omar Mateen wrote, according to the letter, which requested Facebook’s assistance in the investigation into the shooting that resulted in 49 deaths.

Mateen then posted, according to the letter: “The real muslims will never accept the filthy ways of the west” and “You kill innocent women and children by doing us airstrikes..now taste the Islamic state vengeance.”

At some point on Sunday, Mateen also searched on Facebook for “Pulse Orlando” and “Shooting,” according to Johnson.

BBM Wow, just freaking wow. The visual of this statement just blows my mind.

Speaking of cloth, a few years ago my middle school age children went to school with a 'moderate' muslim kid, his parents well respected in the community. He was a popular kid, good looking, athletic and well liked by all. My kids had known him all their lives. Apparently, his parents were nipping on the heals of a divorce and he decided to commit suicide as a way of 'restoring honor' to his family's name (or so rumor has it.) He succeeded. Somehow, this was kept out of the media aside from the customary obituary. My 5th and 6th graders (a boy and a girl) attended the funeral, along with the rest of their classmates. The females (including his mother) weren't allowed to attend the grave side service but the boys were. They carried the casket to the grave site and were instructed to lift his little body, draped lightly in cloth, out of the casket. They were then ordered to toss the body into the hole in the ground as if it were little more than garbage. Following that, everyone helped shovel dirt over it.
‎
My kids spent six months in therapy. Their friend's suicide was horrific enough but the customary practices of his funeral were beyond traumatizing. Had I known more about their burial customs I would have NEVER allowed my children to attend. It never dawned on me that my son would have to help throw his friend's dead body into a dirt hole. ‎

Wow. In my state alll people buried are required to be in a sealed casket. It is interesting how different states have different rukes re health and safety issues.

Water contamination and animals eating a body.

Do you remember how long it took to arrest the San Bernardino couple's friend? I think it took awhile so IMO there's still a chance she'll be charged and arrested.

If charges are brought, the indictment could remain sealed for a period while the grand jury’s investigation expands to other possible co-conspirators, said Malcolm, who also is a former Justice Department attorney.

Federal prosecutors could keep a grand jury open for weeks or months, using the investigative body as a way to gather evidence and subpoena witnesses who must testify under oath, Malcolm explained.

“Once prosecutors indict someone, the investigative phase of their case is over, so sometimes prosecutors delay bringing an indictment to keep their investigation going,” Malcolm said, noting that if Sunday’s terror attack at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub was part of a larger terror plot, the scope of the probe could grow.

I'm not sure it matters that his act be labeled. The FBI are investigating to the best of their abilities.
What I'm getting from what we know is that he wanted to be viewed as being involved with terrorists.
He was a wannabe. IMO

Anyone who kills 49 people and injures 53 others is far from a "wannabe" terrorist. On the contrary, he is the epitome of one.

[h=1]Omar Mateen, suicide bomber seen at party in serious conversation[/h]
“They were over in a corner, just the two of them,” she said. “It looked like a serious conversation, but I couldn’t hear it so I can’t say what it was about.”

The guest said that at both parties, she got into debates with the men and other guests about religion. Mateen and the Abu Salha brothers advocated Islam, but she and at least two other guests were Christians.

On that last: The owner of a gun store isn't necessarily the person who provides training. It's entirely possible Mateen took training there yet the owner didn't know him.

A wannabe in the sense that he tried to claim ties with groups that were investigated by the FBI and found to be false. The two groups he claimed,Al Qaeda and Hezbollah are rivals.
His own admission was that he made the claim due to anger at co-workers.
As far as I know, and I may have missed some information, the FBI hasn't confirmed that he had any ties to ISIS.
As far as I'm concerned it matters not...the people he killed are just as dead regardless of his reasons. IMO
Still waiting to see what future investigations turns up. If he did have ties the information may be helpful to prevent further attacks.

I tend to think that if he self-identified as an Islamic terrorist, then we should respect that and consider him an Islamic terrorist.

Right. That really means nothing to me.

Possible, but somebody regularly receiving training, or even just using the firing ranges would probably be at least generally noticed by the owner at all but the largest gun stores / ranges.

At the end of the day, gun store owners tend to be an observant bunch. Being observant does not mean being 'hyper vigilant' all the time, but they tend to notice who comes and goes in their store and who uses their ranges.
