That's called the Stockholm syndrome. Many captives usually sympathize and protect their captors after years of being abused and brainwashed and whatever else.

Plus its not like the Ohio kidnapped victims that could get help from the passing guy. Some victims don't even leave due to the fear of getting caught.

So I truly doubt that most women would think that way without the years of being brought up like that.

Now as far as the women leaving free countries to join isis. I truly think that some have changed their minds once getting there.

Idk.

I think so too. It's like any other cult - they find people who are vulnerable, brainwash you and make big promises and then you end up being abused and taken advantage of. I doubt the people who followed Jim Jones and David Koresh thought their adventures would end the way they did.

You want to eliminate (kill) 1,570 million people?

....And the post was THANKED by 5 people!!!!! I guess it's good to know how people REALLY feel.....but personally I find it very depressing. JMO

I agree. We have lately been hearing about new isis members that surrendered themselves to be brought back to the United States to face trial because they simply wanted to get the heck out of there.

But I doubt the women can go off the grid as easily when they decide that it's not for them. Just like those 3 girls from the UK that left to join them.

There's no telling what they are going through right now. Because isis just doesn't put the females on the front line without marrying them off first to the main generals in the area.

So some may think that they are going to help provide assistance to isis. But Isis will definitely dictate what assistance they will give. And by then, its too late. Jmo

I didn't say hate crime vs. terrorism. I said it's both, but there are people who, imo, want to present it as only a terrorist attack because they are straight and don't want to feel excluded.

Excluded? As if this is a private club one belongs to????

I have to say that this whole week while I watched the news constantly and read this thread, not once did I feel excluded from anything. In fact, as a straight married white American woman I felt like WE were attacked. Americans and our country The United States. It didn't matter to me if gay or straight or Latinos were slaughtered. It was still us.

This is how we do it. Focus on the scondary reasons. The real focus needs to be on disfrancheised homosapians. It is that simple

remember when we had rash of assualt people with axes

the weapon useles ,we need to focus on why people "want" to pick us an ax

imo until that happens duck mo

I have friends from all over the globe. The continuous hate bashing of Muslims is revolting to me. As it says in the Bible, look at the log in your own eye. Americans have the same patriarchal , killing of children, and whatever heinous things you want to say about Muslims. It is not true of all Americans nor is it true of all Muslims.

perfect word and scary

Do you have a link or source? I've been in Mosques and am not Muslim. Most Mosques I know of are welcoming, and the Muslims I know are eager to share their faith with others (like practitioners of most religions).

Exactly. Here in the U.S., they are evolving and many-many realize that there is much to be done on the issue of women and equality.

"Muslims are answerable to Allah in every sphere of their life, including their personal and public
relations. Human relations and gender relations in Islam are an amanah, a sacred trust that we
must guard and make manifest in our interpersonal interactions and institutional arrangements.
Islam demands that women and men be spiritual equals. It defines relations between women and
men as mutually complementary, and indeed, this mutuality is itself a sign of the Divine (Qur’an,
30:21). Both women and men have been entrusted with the charge of preserving the social order
and establishing a just and moral society. Both have been given the guidance to inspire goodness
in each other, and thereby, the goodness in all of society."

"The respect, compassion, and mutuality that Allah has placed between women and men must be
visible in not only our family life, but also in how Muslims conduct public transactions. Women
and men, girls and boys should have equal access to and must feel equally welcome to participate
in schools, the masjid, and other civic and cultural institutions."

"To their credit, some mosques in North America are being more inclusive. By implementing changes
such as inclusion of women in main prayer halls, in managerial positions, and on boards, these mosques
have created an impetus and mechanism for community transformation.
However, according to data from the national survey of mosques conducted by CAIR (discussed
below), the trend towards inclusion is not as widespread as the standard demanded by Islam.
There are confirmed reports that many mosques relegate women to small, dingy, secluded,
airless and segregated quarters with their children. Some mosques in Canada and the United
States actually prevent women from entering. There are also some Islamic centers and mosques
that discriminate against women by denying them the rights of membership, voting, or holding office."

^^^ This reiterates, you cannot treat all those who are Muslims like they are terrorists or even potential terrorists, simply because they are Muslim.

How do you know?

The thing is, it doesn't even matter imo. The comment didn't even make sense because we have already been told this is terrorism and hate. Terrorism already includes everyone so why would anyone care if it is also a hate crime? Ppl need to get over themselves... we are talking about 49 murdered lives here plus hundreds more forever changed. jmo

Your comment combined with the NYT article prompted me to look this up. Because I agree he had issues - more than one - but what could have caused him to start so early in life?

Does traumatic brain injury cause violence?

Especially interesting, imo, are the references to child abuse.

Hi blue

dad walked up to his child, in public, in front of his peers and whacked the child across the face

by law , we would have to report that (or lose our liscense).

In this instance if dad does not grasp that is not ok in public , what is going on behind closed dooors

I would call in a heartbeat

its child abuse

I find this America-bashing highly offensive.

I would love to ask those of you who don't understand Amercian culture to do a bit more reading. We are a vast continent, originally peopled by First Nations, who were in turn treated horribly. I'm from Louisiana which was, in the beginning First Narion, then French then Spanish then French then American. Read our 'Founding Fathers' & try to understand why we are, have been & probaby will be a culture of violence.

Perhaps you can start with Adam Smith's 'Wealth of Nations' then try the Constitution: the insistence upon our right to bear arms. We are not, & have never been an hegemony. This is not a value judgement on my part. (Well, perhaps it is, I own guns, shotguns, a Beretta, a revolver, Sig & Magnum.) As a ninth generation American, rightly or wrongly, I humbly ask that y'all try to understand how and why we got to where we are without blindly bashing.
