Interesting and so is this.

LGBT gun rights group sees membership skyrocket after Orlando shooting

"There’s always been a necessity for self-defense in the LGBT community,” says West, who grew up in Alabama surrounded by guns.

Pink Pistols has 35 active chapters across the U.S., and nationally, its Facebook membership has increased from 1,500 before the shooting to about 6,500 as of Monday afternoon, spokeswoman Gwendolyn Patton said. That hike has encouraged some and worried others.

Patton said several of the chapters have become active since last week. The organization helps its members “select a firearm, acquire a permit, and receive proper training in its safe and legal use for self-defense," according to its website. Omar Mateen, the killer in the Orlando attacks, did not belong to the Pink Pistols.

I had already heard in the news where gun sales are going through the roof again and that many gays are purchasing firearms and going to gun ranges to train.

And Pink Pistols is just one gay organization and I am sure they have more throughout the USA.

I wouldn't call those in the gay community idiots for buying firearms nor would I anyone else an idiot who has a constitutional right to protect themselves with a firearm should the need arise.

When the shooting started Saturday night, I'll bet there wasn't a person in the club who wouldn't have traded everything he owned in the world, for a loaded gun.

Hi all,
A bit off the current discussion here but I was driving home from work tonight and passed a local church. They have a light up billboard the that they use for inspirational messages. This week's message read simply:

WE ARE ORLANDO.

My first reaction was, gee that's a nice show of support. Then it hit me, child of the 60s that I am: THIS IS A CHURCH!!!!! A church showing open support for the LGBT community. Not prayers, but: "WE ARE". As in we are one.

I drive on with the realization thst even ten years ago no church in America or anywhere else would openly stand with the Gay community.

This event was horrific. Unspeakable. But tonight I was filled with a new hope. Maybe 10 years from now bullying different kids and homophobia will disappear as well.

Such a small sign. Such a huge implication.

Ok now I feel like CARIIS with my spaces. :-)

It seems to me that our world is spinning so fast, that, even attrotciaties against innocents are buried or, quickly forgotten about.
I am heartbroken. I really am.
P.S. I absolutey just do not care about this mass murderer's up bringing or his sexual issues. I do not care.

I care about identifying sick people being able to buy tons of ammunition and mass murdering weapons.

There has to be a way to identify abnormal ammunition and gun sales. Really.

Come on, we've got the intelligence to identify strange gun and bullet purchases right?

If we don't, then we need to.

This is simple.
Kudos to the gun shop owners who shut this jerk down.

As an aside. I am a gun owner.
Never, will anyone take away my right to own a gun, that I feel the need to protect my family.

Thank you, Renee. ITA. I believe MANY Americans are fed up with being "PC". Our national security SHOULD be most important. I'm back to lurking. Thanks again for this post.
Boy, I know I am fed up with the PC state of our country. Imho the powers that be cannot admit he was a threat to national security because that would mean their "War in Terror" was a big fat fail.

Your spaces are fine compared to mine!!!!

Tid bits:

A federal official confirmed to NBC News Tuesday that Mateen made the purchase for his family to travel to Northern California to visit his ailing mother-in-law. Wife Noor Zahi Salman's mother recently had an operation and was not getting better, and the family was planning on spending an extended period of time with her.

Former Teacher: Orlando Nightclub Gunman's Wife Had 'Difficulty' Understanding Things

"Noor had difficulty with retention. She had difficulty with conceptualizing, understanding — all challenges to her," Susan said. "She tried hard. She was very sweet."
Her family confirmed that Susan was Salman's special education teacher and that she was enrolled in special education classes.

The wife of the Orlando nightclub shooter had learning difficulties when she was in middle school and was enrolled in special education classes, according to her now retired teacher in California.

While I think this guy was not what I consider a Full Blown Terrorist to our country, this part of your sentence hits the matter exactly where the problem is - their "War in Terror" was a big fat fail.

I feel kind of bad for Noor now. I think there's a strong chance that she could have sincerely not known, or not understood what OM was up to.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch admitted today that the FBI is unaware of the whereabouts of Omar Mateen’s wife, Noor Salman.

I remain confused about this casing. I could grasp needing three years to get down Disney. The bar is a couple of small rooms. He had obviouly been there many times before. It is actually a very easy layout

Enter, Dance floor. Turn right outside area. or

Enter, walk 20 steps, take left ,walk another 30 feet and your in the second room.

a left. or a right.

Some bathrooms!!

The media is making it like it was this big "mission". He wanted to die. Did what he did , entered shooting, and at the end walked on his own into a hail of bullets.

If his orginal plan (mo) was outside, he may have thought he could get away with it.

Everthing flipped on him when he ended up in a toiilet - after murdering a ton of people.

Might as well walk into bullets........................

I agree. And I think he specifically looked for that trait in a wife.

NBC: Guns are not protecting us ...they are killing us

It is a true staement IMO

God they must think we are idiots some govt person saying "We are clsoing the terrorist loop hole" how is tying gun purchases to a list most of them are not on doing ja*k ***** -- its insulting...and they know it will cool the public off till the election is over
NBC news :

He bought the tickets the day before the shooting

I wonder if he bought the tickets to get them out of here . He knows he is probably gonna die, who cares if he buys three tickets - he wont have to pay for them when the bill comes. Maybe that is where she is ??

Arrived and midnight , left for two hours - I bet to get the cover taken care of see how busy it was

In the report the area looks open they put up red and white plastic barricades around the front cept a little space for a driveway

Interesting and so is this.

Yikes, just what we need, guys packing a different kinda heat!!!!!!

I want to know where all this money comes from? The jewelry, guns, travel, airline tickets. Did he have hotel reservations? A car reserved?

I don't see how he thought or believed he would survive this. He wasn't even masked was he? Trying to hide his appearance? His thought process does not make sense to me. First he tried to buy protective body gear as if he thought he could walk away safe, but doesn't bother to disguise himself. Gives his house away...why do that if you think you are going to survive and get away with this. Why buy tickets if you are not going to survive... this is all over the place.

He was a very, very ill man. Mania is confusing, racing thoughts that are all over the place -how it works!

Article on the owner of Pulse wanting to reopen it. That's a tough one.

I watched the video and there was nothing about the owner wanting to re-open?

I can't sympathize with her and I am a very good person. I'm married, I know what my husband does and if I drove him around to purchase that particular type of ammunition I would know why. We have several guns and I am familiar with them, no kids around and viewing the house would be kinda hard for her not to have known and why'd she flee if she is so innocent? JMO

Thanks

I understand that. I think it would be more accurate to say that I'm "open to considering that she didn't understand ".

Given the information that she was in special ed, plus the comments from people that know her (linked in prior thread, please don't make me dig!) about her being kinda "slow", etc... leads me to this.

My son, who is cognitively disabled probably influences my feelings. It's hard to explain, but please look into it.

I do believe that he thought that he could walk away and go on vacation.
I am so Happy, that he is deceased. Goodbye family vacay.

That is exactly what I thought when I read about her limitations --he could really abuse her. i did not want to say this, but I can not think of a way to say it , and I am not saying the following term is her, but I wonder like if it really clear when she talks she just is not understanding what is being said and is concrete in her thinking.

So, that would be why, in the beginning when they asked her some questions most would not know not good to answer, she is simple (just to describe) she just flat out said, "yes , I took him to the gun store"
"yes , I drove him to Pulse"

"Yes I thought he might do somethig violent "

Just was not grasping the enormity of the sitution. It even sounds like that in terms of her saying "I love you" to a husband who just shot a 100 people.

I think that may be why after a couple of days they just let her go whereever.

They did the grand jury stuff just to manipulate us, knowing in a week the story will be gone mooo

Maybe he was rethinking the whole situation, no one will ever know, he could have been looking for security cameras, places for people to hide, a place to kill the most people, an escape route if he was so stupid to think he would. I personally will never make an excuse for the killer. JMO

Thanks CARIIS

OMG

And his folded in half. I really kinda wish this dude was not showing 15 year olds how this works. I never really understood with the magazines and reloading . The sound is horrific - I wont sleep tongight without two Lunestas!!

The guy himself is somewhat scary - who would even think about sticking a machine gun down ones pants?? Humm, I wonder if this machine gun will fit in my jeans???

I live out in the country.... I mean way out.... there isn't even a gas station to buy milk for 25 miles... so I understand this guy. Myself....I would never target a farmer... they are in and out... but you wouldn't believe the dumbbutts that do. And they get hurt. Don't mess with a farmer... they are armed and they are in and out all of the time... no schedules.... although we don't have automatics. We have shotguns mostly.

There was someone(s) breaking into and robbing farmers out here last year.... Hit something like 12 houses in 3 days. He got lucky... it was hay season and farmers were cutting, teddering, baling.... but these farmers don't mess around.... they would be dead if someone walked in...

AS far as someone sticking a gun in their pants. Hands up; I have. I had a boarder whose ex was stalking her.... it was scary. My husband brought gun to the barn and made me promise to carry... this guy scared her so bad she went back to NY where she was from..quit college and everything. So....
