Deceased/Not Found FL - Megan Pratt, 3, Brooksville, Sept 1991

I found this case while looking up another one. This is sad, How appauling that the mother did nothing and tried to hide the girls death. She apparantly had several other children too.

10 years later, Mom took a plea deal and the last I heard back in 2004 the step-dad had been arrested and was in custody. Does anyone have an update on this case?

I found this, apparantly step-dad is in prison until 2018. I assume het got such a short sentence due to the fact they have no body. What a loser. He deserved the death penalty.

Poor kid, she looks strikingly like my niece did at her age (she was also born in 1988)

As for the short sentence it's actually considered longer than average for second-degree murder, in many states par for the course is 10 years unless it's aggravated by priors involving violence. Intent to kill was almost impossible to prove in this case so we're lucky he got 14 years at least. Another plus is that it's going to be 14 rough years for a child killer.

from what i've read in articles online..
both the mother and stepfather were sentenced to prison... the mother got six years and the stepfather took a plea deal and got twenty five. he was supposed to get sixty...
the other bones they found were from a man.. no further details are given about this...
megan leeann pratt's body was never found...they tried again to find her body using ground penetrating radar technology but found nothing...
they lied to people saying that megan leeann pratt had been in a car accident and died.. but they also said that they had put her up for adoption because she had been in foster care... this is what got them caught.. things didn't add up and there was no proof of a car accident or adoption.
I still think the fact that they murdered an innocent three year old girl, burned her body and left evidence for twelve years is horrible... the fact that these are free people allowed to live their lives freely disturbs me... if they had never been caught it is very likely that Megan LeeAnn Pratt would have been lost in time forever...
