news just said LE has not released where....or when... the phone was found....to them OR to the family

I have a couple of thoughts on this one...but I guess primarily, when LE has been so bold as to name a PS, and then keep a lot of information from everyone including Michelle's family, it could be that they are not wanting a huge powder keg of a situation...one thought. I have others. Not as prevelant but again, telling anyone anything at this point until Michelle is found or an arrest made...is a mistake.

We can all speculate now because we know a little...but not much. In the case of Caylee we were told quite a bit, shown quite a bit, and as such, her defense had three years to pick the brains of our posts and speculations based on a lot of information and were able to formulate a defense...and we know how that worked out. :(

Imo the airport is a less likely scenario than le finding the phone after the questioning being done the past couple of days. Also just a thought, how do we know that's not what le was doing at that random house in Tuitsville yesterday?

Wait.. wouldnt LE know whose phone it is...surely they would...so why the need to show Lauren a picture to confirm its Michelle's?

Unless bugs are planted and the phone is a way to see if any of the Smiths discuss how the police could have Michelles Phone when its really in the ?????.

I must say, like a couple of you have mentioned, I'm pretty shocked that the phone is "in good condition," as was reported. I too was thinking that it would have been smashed up to bits and flushed down a public toilet, or something like that.

I must say that OPD is doing an excellent job thus far even if it doesn't satisfy my sleuthy needs. They are doing this much different than the CA case was done by OC & boy am I glad about that. Hoping & praying for MP & her family. Night sleuths!

Whatever has happened and if there is a perp...That person would know what if anything they did to the phone. Why would LE say they have it if they don't? I don't see how that would be trickery! JMO

Or possibly about to board their plane. Not sure I'd go back to return a phone if my flight was boarding, the finder appears to have done the next best thing.

Most passengers give it to the gate attendent when boarding. Believe me, I wish they would take the items and try to find the owner on their own. We are already up to 2000 unclaimed items this year! :maddening:

My favorite item over the past several years is the gold lame bejeweled/tasseled cowboy boots (not to offend any one that likes them, but definately out of place in NH) Oh, and an English Saddle, and a sewing machine. All unclaimed.

So to clarify, it was the family that announced that the phone was found? Not LE? I ask because that is a very interesting tactic on the part of the police. From all of the sites I read, WESH, Cfnew13, clickorlando, wftv, orlando sentinel...it appears as though the official announcement came to the media via the family and was later posted on the FB to find Michelle via the family.

I am looking at police tactics here. Not at her family. At all. Not.

First I heard was a tweet from a reporter...source LE

So LE "finds" Michelle's phone and they contact the family to indentify it by looking at a picture? Sounds kinda odd to me. From the looks of the video her cell case looks pretty common. Wonder if they able to charge it up? If so was it locked? I know Apple can unlock it pretty easy if need be. Somebody most likely found it as I don't see how it was found by LE.

Maybe they sent it to the Lab to be analyzed for DNA?

I think there is a possibility that someone before the grand jury gave them some info that led them to the phone. Maybe.

Which would mean that someone knew where the phone was and there could be an arrest soon?

Maybe LE found the phone during one of their searches or "raids" and are only just letting the family know?

“They literally just found a needle in a haystack,” Parker's sister said.

Authorities have centered nearly all search efforts around the cellphone, and the last place its signal hit cell towers was near Oakridge Road in Orlando.

Parker’s family members told WFTV on Wednesday night that police would not tell them where they found the phone, how they found it or if they found anything else.

The family believes this is a major break.

That's the exact same thing I thought about that. :thumb:

They may have phone records that are only available through the phone.

Attorney: Missing woman Michelle Parker's cellphone found

Parker's sister: “They literally just found a needle in a haystack"

Parker’s family members told WFTV on Wednesday night that police would not tell them where they found the phone, how they found it or if they found anything else.

After 20 days of searching in an effort spanning two counties, for Parker’s family, the discovery of the cellphone is finally something.

“They literally just found a needle in a haystack,” said Parker’s sister Lauren Erickson.

Erickson said Orlando police called family members to the department Wednesday and showed them a picture of an iPhone 4. After looking at it, the family instantly knew it belonged to Parker.-----

“My heart dropped, it went up, it went all around. It is her phone. It is her phone case. It is the one,” said Erickson.
