Found Deceased FL - Miya Marcano, 19, Arden Villas apts, Orlando, 24 Sep 2021

This purse thing was strange and unexpected to me also! One of the reporters asked the Sheriff at the media conference if they’d be able to construct a timeline about how things went down. He said they have a pretty good idea about the timing of everything and I guess they just have to await the cause of death to finish it up. I’m really hoping that they release some of that information and I’m hoping the finding of the purse is included. I feel like I have so many niggling questions. She got off of work at 5 and was dumped that same day between 8-9. And then he returned to the apartment and had an interaction with her relatives at 3:30AM on Saturday which was odd enough for them to suspect him of being the one to harm Mia. He had already had the purse when he dropped off her body at Tymber Skan- why did he return to Arden Villas. How do you understand the mind of a murderer I guess maybe we’ll never know his reasoning- but maybe a timeline will make things clearer? Not to sound insensitive but so many of us were hoping for a different outcome for Miya- the full story would help with some closure :’(
I have similar questions. I think he returned so he didn't look suspicious being away. I watched a few videos of the Sheriff speaking and he mentioned two other things that caught my attention: 1) the POI's cell phone pinged in the New Smyrna search area between 3AM and 4AM (basically the middle of the night Miya went missing) and that's the same time that one of Miya's relatives mentioned seeing him outside of Miya's apartment when they had arrived from south FL to search for her, and; 2) the Sheriff mentioned they are still missing two cell phones. Perhaps all of the POI's driving around was also to disperse those two cell phones. I have no idea whose cell phones the Sheriff was talking about. Perhaps someone can tell me.

Wonder if he had a work phone and a personal one.

He didn’t try to make it look like she’d left voluntarily - he left the door jammed, blood on the pillow and the room in disarray - so I wonder if he just took the purse as a last minute thing because he believed or knew that her phone was in it? Maybe at one point he intended to plant it somewhere else but didn’t do that for whatever reason.

Maybe he just took it because he knew she was carrying a wad of cash for her trip and decided to take that as well.

Maybe Miya’s is missing as well? I didn’t hear that part.
Right. I was thinking for some reason they already had his phone because they used the cell tower pings to locate Miya.

Obviously they don't need his phone just a search warrant to the provider in order to obtain that information.

Oh gosh no worries! Maybe they are missing one or his actual phone too?
I’m just glad they found her. :(

I don't like the polygraph, I have failed polygraph tests, while telling the truth.

But, I do like the idea of a door jam, that a woman would put in place when she is home. At least that would be safer than nothing. It doesn't prevent the maintenance man from coming in when she isn't there...and in this case, Caberello could have been waiting for her when she got home.

Definitely, master keys should be kept locked up, with maintenance having access to the key only for job duties. Checking it out? But that still leaves the key with someone having access...

My understanding is that conscientious people can fail polygraphs while telling the truth, and sociopath serial killers can pass polygraphs.

It seems that there were red flags, but it's not clear to me which of them were known by the property managers. There are things that people can do to protect themselves. But you can't expect people to enter their own apartments prepared for an attack every day. For me, it all comes back to the perp. What causes someone to do this?

I do not claim any knowledge in this area; my opinion is that each state should determine its own criteria for 'licensure.'

I’m thinking checking the master key out is more of a “we know you have the key during this time slot for this purpose” kind of thing - maybe a person might think twice about using it improperly. I’d be very interested to know the master key policies at other properties.

Very similar. There are some valid reasons to enter an apartment without an appointment - things like a plumbing break or fire sprinklers set off, both of which I am aware of happening at other properties, not related to this one or one owned by this corporation.

If not an emergency situation, however, an appointment should be made so the resident can be present with or without someone else or choose to be away.

The idea that someone could just enter without a valid all-hands-on-deck emergency or an appointment is just not safe. Period.

We have a broken window. There's a weight that was thrown into the window. She doesn't know who,' a deputy says in the video.

A note that Caballero had written to the unnamed woman asking her out can be seen in the trunk of a police car

In the March video, Seminole County deputies can be seen responding to the incident at the Sabal Complex, the same complex where Caballero was found dead of an apparent suicide

Although the text in the note was not released to the public, the report mentions that Caballero had asked the women out in the note

Without getting into the psychiatry of his actions, an obsession can be all-consuming.

I think Miya recognized the alarm bells, especially since she had told people close to her about his behavior. There must have been something about him - maybe he was charming - that made some think he was perhaps annoying but harmless.

My advice - listen to your gut. It's hardly ever wrong.

I totally agree. And it’s not confirmed but reported on MSM that he was seen coming out of her window.
This is so awful but I’m not really sure how this was preventable. JMO and maybe it’s controversial? If so, no need to respond. I want to make this about Miya.

I believe it ties in with Miya's planned trip to Lauderdale that week.
I believe this Cabellaro was scaring her for awhile; that she was going home to her family, for safety.
That, I believe , is why he attacked now.
He knew she may never return to Orlando.
With abusers, the most dangerous moment is when you are leaving.
i feel like if that was the case, her family would have been more vocal about knowing that.

Taking into account his suicide I have to wonder if he left her purse there so LE could identify her. Not that I think he's the thoughtful type (obviously NOT). I just can't think of any other reason.
is it possible as he abducted her she said wait let me take my purse like thinking if she was compliant he wouldnt hurt her and he actually killed her where she was found?

  • #617
I'm pretty sure he grabbed her purse because he wanted it to seem like she had disappeared after leaving home. It's possible that she didn't even have her purse with her at work. He might have stashed it in his car hours before she walked into her apartment.

'Pain I don't know how to get rid of,' Miya Marcano's anguished grandmother says (nbcnews.com)

"When I saw the news and they said where she was, the saddest part was seeing where they left her — in a dumpster," the Latina college student's aunt said.

Miya Marcano's family members say it's difficult to move on after they found out over the weekend that a body authorities believed is that of the 19-year-old Valencia College student was found in a wooded area in Orlando, Florida.

Marcano had been missing since Sept. 24 when she was last seen at the Arden Villas apartment complex in Orlando, where she lived.

“It’s a pain in the chest and in the stomach that we have. I don’t know how, as a family, we’re going to go on with this pain,” Marcano’s aunt, Gabriela Sánchez, said in a television interview with Noticias Telemundo...

“Many (Arden Villas) residents have started an online petition. Many say they don’t feel the apartment complex is doing enough to keep residents safe, including ensuring their front gate is always locked. Some residents are even asking to break their lease.” Miya Marcano’s disappearance prompts calls for more safety at Arden Villas
A change is coming, Miya. We couldn’t save you, but you will help save others!
